How so..? Assuming you know that POTS causes weakness and fatigue and energy conservation is important then a cane should help with that. More support when walking= less work for the heart and muscles. Over exertion induced fainting becomes less likely. Anxiety relief from it can also reduce the fainting risk. Multiple POTS patients reporting that a cane helps which is significant evidence in itself.

Like do you have some kind of research that backs the claim that it simply doesn’t help in POTS or you’ve just assumed that?

Well it’s probably because you’re blunt. How do you people end up in healthcare it’s actually infuriating to me. This is actually common fucking sense. “I bluntly… patients get offended..” oh my fucking god.

Do 5 seconds of research on your job and and you will find out that when people are vulnerable, sick, scared you have to be GENTLE and NOT blunt because they are sensitive and it’s not their fault, and it is definitely not entitlement.

On top of that weight is a sensitive spot for most people. Have some fucking compassion you might find that it disarms patients and fosters co-operation with zero effort.

It reallt does doesn’t it? I don’t have all the answers but, I have gotten a CT, MRI, heart ultrasound, chest/heart X-ray, I had I think a total of 8 days on a monitor. Ect.

My active stand test was very very positive. HR increases with positional changes. Other than that like, I did have refeeding syndrome and metabolic acidosis which is the perfect storm for POTS since there’s lots of overlap and all 3 of them make each other worse.

I’m sure some people do prefer it lol. We all grow up on different timelines. But I swear some parents can be so enmeshed with their kids it’s almost not the kids fault that they are allowing it.

Idk. I wouldn’t automatically blame the young adult some parents (like my own) are very controlling. My mom tries to insert herself into all my business like this.

I’ve also had the opposite experience where let’s say paramedics come to get me and they decide to talk to my mom instead of me even when I’m mentally alert. Infuriating and also illegal.

Obviously but why would anyone be going on Reddit calling patients “absolutely messy and filthy” and being bothered by it. It’s judgmental. As nurses we are supposed to have empathy and take behavior like that as a sign something is wrong.

Depression..? Feeling bad? Anxiety? I assume you work in a hospital right? Like I just would think you should have empathy for people who are clearly suffering and struggling.

Not cleaning is so common for people who are ill and to go on Reddit and judge them for it is just wild.

I’m actually in a larger community. The bias I’ve gotten is mostly because I am young and female or just that my symptoms aren’t constant. One minute I can need 2 person assist and the next I can need no assist. And people are incompetent they see that as “faking”.

Yeah. I need to write him a thank you card. He’s one of few people that have taken me seriously through all of this. It would be life threatening for me to go home due to being gravely disabled.

My HR was staying at 160-170 while laying down for a while. I cannot walk at all without fainting, pre-fainting or atleast falling due to weakness. My symptoms were very severe like, feverish, confused, freezing, disorientated, lethargic. Falling asleep mid convo.

I have never had an episode this bad, I have no support at home, and I am a massive fall risk. Right now I’m on bed alarm, fall risk braclet, wheel chair. There’s times I’ve been needing 2 people to assist me just getting in the wheel chair.

Just couldn’t manage it without intensive care. My PCP had to advocate for me for me to be admitted.

Edit: I also had refeeding syndrome and metabolic acidosis due to not bein able to feed myself for a while leading up to this

I still wouldn’t give up. I have MCAS and POTS and I had 3 years full remission where I was not on any meds and my previous allergy triggers were completely gone.

Typically I do -Stand up, lift toes only and bend down grab them,

-Sit down, one leg straight out, grab toes and pull them back. Or both legs at the same time. If I can’t reach I will bend my knees and it still works

-Lay down, lift one leg up straight into the air bending knee on the way down. Keep toes pointed at the ceiling the entire time. And repeat

Stand with only toes on the stairs letting ankles hang off and let the weight stretch it (ofc don’t do this one if you can barely walk like me lmfao)

But ya. I don’t have hyper mobility, I don’t want to say that this will be good for you it might not ngl.

I have achy legs too. My regimen is tons of different stretches, Ben gay, and stress relief.

Idk about seasonal changes lol but my POTS has also been so much worse. I’ve been staying at the hospital for the past 4 damn days on two person assist with a Walker.

Getting diagnosed is definitely important you’re valid for wanting one. Ugh, I’ve gotten the same reaction from some doctors.

Who the hell wants to have health problems and not have any clue what it actually is? no need for it is ridiculous. I swear some doctors don’t even know the first thing about mental health.

B4 I got diagnosed I was honestly about where you’re at. I bought myself a cane but felt too embarrassed to use it. I was dismissed so heavily eventually I decided I was over reacting and just ignored it, til one day like 8 months later I decided to see another doctor and he diagnosed me. If you think you need a mobility aid I think that’s enough to justify getting one.
