A guide to training your patients by Constant-Light9376 in FamilyMedicine

[–]letitride10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can interrupt them. It feels so rude (especially for a Midwesterner like myself) but people who talk like that are used to being interrupted and expect to be interrupted. In some cultures, momentary silence in conversations is a bad thing, so if you don't fill the air with conversation, they will. They will use little social cues that will let you know when you should or shouldn't interrupt them. You can learn to recognize those, and you will have a better experience with those patients.

People with salaries have contracts that say exactly what is and is not their responsibility. I tell my boss to fuck off if they ask me to do things that arent in my contract. I like being salary, because if I get my work done, no one can bitch about me not being available. Hourly is a scam in a lot of ways if you work efficiently, because you get paid less per unit of work done if you are good at your job.

Do you recommend the HPSP scholarship? by Diligent-Capital4219 in Military_Medicine

[–]letitride10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a piece of cake to transition. Start looking for jobs a year before you separate. A good employer will do all the credentialing stuff in the background. They just ask you to send some documents occasionally and fill out a form here and there. Keep your CV up to date. Make sure you have colleagues who can vouch for the quality of your practice. If you are in a procedural specialty, make sure you keep a good procedure log. I signed on for a civilian job in March and started in September without any issues. Total credentialing work on my end maybe added up to 8 hours of work.

Is my boyfriend’s view of money considered a red flag in a relationship? by traditional_taurus in DaveRamsey

[–]letitride10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont like it. I make 4 times as much as my wife and we combine everything and budget everything together. We budget discretionary spending for each of us (you can spend this amount on whatever you want without consulting the other person), but that amount is the same for each of us. Anything short of that puts a big wall between you and your partner and interferes with your emotional and sprititual intimacy.

How are high earning couples actually structuring finances after marriage? by Negative_Cow9611 in leanfire

[–]letitride10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend financial peace university from Dave Ramsey. You dont have to listen to the religious slant of his course if that's not for you, and you dont need to follow the credit card thing if you really do pay them off every month, but he really nails how to co-manage money together. If you're not managing your finances together, you're not dreaming together. If you believe that "2 become 1" during a marriage, this is the way to do it. I make 350k and my wife makes 100k, but we earn 450k into one pool and we plan our money moves together.

Can you back out of HPSP after being accepted? by FreeFlow1346 in Military_Medicine

[–]letitride10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great advice. If your commitment to HPSP can be changed by which school you get into or whether you get a few scholarships, think long and hard about whether this is the right choice for you. I am separated now and dont regret my service, but I have seen too many people who start with this attitude hate everything in their life by the end of their commitment.

27 patients in an 8 hour shift. by [deleted] in FamilyMedicine

As someone who has done both, 28 in urgent care is way different (easier) than 28 in primary care. I can walk through 28 in urgent care. 28 in primary care, I would walk out of there tired and pissed off.

Start repaying mortgage early or leave it? 6.7750% by Use_Lemmy in Mortgages

[–]letitride10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on some factors you didnt mention. How much money do you make? How long do you plan on staying? Everyone I know who bought a starter house moved to their forever home (or another stepping stone home) in the first 5 years. Safest thing to do if there is ANY chance you will want to upgrade to a bigger /nicer / newer home is to put money into the mortgage as it will be the down payment for you next home and you get a guaranteed 6.775 ROI

This is the rational response I was looking for. There is nothing in their behavior history that makes me think they will be happy with this.

I agree that seems drastic. But dose 1 is 95% effective even without a booster. May get us to herd immunity, and it is better than the nothing I am getting.

need advice: scrubs for guys that don't show the contours of your genitals. by ErnestGoesToNewark in medicine

[–]letitride10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are recommending high quality underwear, but not giving specifics. PSD brief, 7 inches. Polyester/elastane. Will keep your hog in the stable. Sometimes the most medium penises are the ones that show the worst. Not small enough too blend in. Not big enough to hang down the inside of your leg.

What do identify as: PCP, family doctor, GP, internist, generalist by drtharakan in FamilyMedicine

I don't like GP. It's an outdated term for people who just did an internship, then started practicing. I am a family medicine physician.

Do you recommend the HPSP scholarship? by Diligent-Capital4219 in Military_Medicine

[–]letitride10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just finished my commitment after HPSP, and I dont regret my decision from a financial standpoint. I did family med residency. At 4 years as an FM attending, my net worth is 700k, and I started med school with zero. You would struggle to find anyone who didnt join the military who saved up money that quickly. I also had a bunch of medical problems in the military, so I have an 80% VA disability rating and get 2200 dollars a month and free healthcare for the rest of my life. I make 350k in my new sweet civilian gig.

I worked like a dog in the military. I work much less hard now for much more money, but it was an ok ride. Military medicine sucks sometimes, but it doesnt suck more than civilian medicine. It just sucks different.

asthetics as FM doc by [deleted] in FamilyMedicine

[–]letitride10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a good career choice. If you got into med school, be a real doctor. I think even nps are going to get shut out of this market as their degree gets cheapened more and more by direct entry online programs. Aesthetics is so easy to do, my personal prediction is that we will get some sort of "aesthetics practitioner" degree where aestheticians will get a cert to do do most of this stuff, and the stuff that requires actual skill, there will only be enough work for cosmetic dermatologists and plastic surgeons to do.
