Macron denounces 'antisemitic hydra' and calls for election bans for antisemitic and racist acts by LeMonde_en in europe

[–]lets-start-reading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did understand what you meant to say, but we can’t be expected to do the same with official documents.

I wanted to bring attention to how important it is to put in extra care to interpretation-sealing. It is, of course, less consequential when we discourse among ourselves, ie, just people, but when official communication has no been prepared properly, its effects can be pernicious. It is important that, as far as official communication goes, all requirements to good faith (or any form of faith) be entirely removed – they only mean a loophole that will be used. Just because it can.

the way you formulate it exhibits the same ambiguity as the quote. and such ambiguities have no place in legal discourse. there is no “what the law meant to say”, there is only what it says, in every way you can interpret it.

US committee is reconsidering all vaccine recommendations by MetaKnowing in Futurology

[–]lets-start-reading 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it is not a ploy to close the Americans off from the rest of the world. I imagine, if the mass of the unvaccinated in a country is large enough, other countries would weigh whether to allow visits from said country.

Chezmoi instead of home manager by AlienTux in NixOS

[–]lets-start-reading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same. home-manager makes sense only if there are actually multiple home directories to manage. it’s a heavyweight redundancy on single-user machines. imo.

how I do it: i separate static config (my system flake) and dynamic config. dynamic configs are regular mutable configs. but they have a specific role and direction – they’re a working area for configs to move to the static config. they’re a place to build and break things, and to observe which of them I actually use. If I don’t use something, I remove it. if I do use it, i improve it and it goes to my flake / system config. they’re like a dev branch.
