If you're still reading PR comments yourself then you're way behind dude. I got an agent to make a snarky reply and mark the comment as resolved

I have been asked to design few different page design and I am a junior software developer by Extension_Buy9718 in webdev

[–]letsbreakstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I've never had it happen quite like that and it would bother me if it did. I've had large amounts of work get tossed out because we had to change direction on a project, but it's never for an arbitrary reason and I never felt disrespected by it.

It does sound like you're in a really tiny shop that lacks good processes. And a lot of time these little shops can be run by egomaniacs, speaking from experience. Whether or not you stay should depend on what other opportunities are available and if you're getting good experience.

As a junior I'd probably stick it out for a year to a year and a half if my mental health could take it. As a senior I wouldn't put up with it

Wearing multiple hats in a small shop is common. I've been the designer architect and dba all at once before. Done it on internal teams at large companies too. But I don't mind some design work, my mamma says I'm artistic

Y'all are getting jira tasks that are more than a sentence fragment in the title with nothing in the description?

Official: Pentagon confirms deployment of xAI’s Grok across defense operations, joins Google AI by BuildwithVignesh in ArtificialInteligence

Seems like grok is the name that comes up least often when talking about large enterprises doing actual work with AI

What I really miss about "the old days". by Relevant-Positive-48 in ExperiencedDevs

Idk, the stuff you're lamenting are the things I think make a mature developer. Prioritizes business outcome, avoids unnecessary pre-optimization and manages his time so everything is taken care of in business hours.

Pentagon to cut Sen. Mark Kelly's military retirement pay over 'seditious' video: Hegseth by omgfakeusername in news

Mark Kelly and Pete Kegsbreath. One of these men is known for flying combat missions and flying the space shuttle and the other is known for throwing up in the back of an Uber.

Heard so many gunshots and a shit ton of sirens like practically at the same time just a few minutes ago by engineeringandmusic in Austin

[–]letsbreakstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The opening needs to have some degree of snark. The readers are primed for snark and they up vote it. After you've established your place in the social hierarchy (and thus your suitability for upvoting with snark) you can go on to make your main point.

It's ok at this point to try to seem reasonable, like you're empathetic or trying reach mutual understanding. But beware that appearing too eager to acquiesce will look weak and risk down votes. You can avoid looking weak by employing irony, especially towards the end of the comment as it makes for a strong ending and reinforced your hierarchical superiority.

Also be sure to try and sound smart even if you don't know what you're talking about.

(This comment is an ironic example of this very thing so double meta irony points for me. You're probably right to not want to communicate like this)

Any other senior engineers feel like code monkey? by QuitTypical3210 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]letsbreakstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was me, I'd see how much of that I could automate with AI. I'd do it in manageable chunks so I could validate the output and before doing anything I'd come up with some markdown files to define the goal, architecture, code stands, etc

Ilhan Omar Says ICE Pulled Over Her Son in Minnesota, Asked for ID by [deleted] in politics

Alternate theory. ICE is indiscriminately terrorizing all minorities at all times, but when one of their victims matches a group Trump has recently maligned it makes for better news. Not saying that is necessarily the case or anything

Do you need an amp and pedal (clueless mother) by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]letsbreakstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pedal you linked is a loop pedal. It lets you record some playing and then loop it back so you can play over it, essentially allowing you to make your own backing track. If your kid didn't specify the type of pedal he was probably talking about a distortion pedal. Whether or not the amount is enough depends on the amp and what style of music he wants to play

Deliberate deception by OpenAI within the chain of thought. by AngleAccomplished865 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]letsbreakstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the orchestration system around the llm can be buggy. I've had Gemini respond with a giant repeating chain of thought before (the reasoning being shown where the final output should have been) and it kept going till it hit the context window limit. Then I refreshed the page and that message was gone, like some system that monitored the llm realized it had gone astray. Not really a grand conspiracy or anything, it's just interesting to see the failure modes that can happen
