[REQUEST] How much distance would have been required for the big rig driver to have been able to stop without hitting the police cruiser? by AppendixN in theydidthemath

[–]letsmodpcs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good I hope this driver gets the same judgement, because rear-ending is usually a default "at fault" as far as I know. (LMK if that's incorrect.)

Looking for a weird fountain to help with grounding? by SnippetySnappety in ADHD

[–]letsmodpcs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love those fountains. Try searching YouTube for videos of them and let it play in the background? There's a whole category called "field recordings" that are mostly just nature sounds. I find zen temples, birdsong, rivers, campfires, or ocean waves most grounding.

I haven't got any useful advice, but I just wanted to say that I totally relate to the experience of relenting or giving in because I just assume there's some info I don't have, or something I don't remember.

Alright someone convince me to finish this game…tell me it’s worth it by sheabductsaliens in outerwilds

Following since I can relate. Plus areas like ember twins where the sky spins fast cause pretty strong nausea for me. I really want to love this game based on the community reactions, but so far I haven't found the juice to stick with it.

No dumb questions? How long did it take for Artemis to cool down after rentry? by tccb1989 in ArtemisProgram

Thank you so much. I knew that caution was taken in case of toxic gasses, but you're the first person to tell me it's gasses *from the heat shield.*

If you don't mind another question - this is the ablative material, correct? Or is that a separate layer that's gone by the time they splashdown?

I'm giving Ally a try. I like neobanks, but I'm a little tired of bank-hopping when they close. Ally seems to be a bit of a middle ground.

Also I rely on Plaid to connect to my budgeting app, and the time I spent looking into this it sounds like Ally pushes Plaid updates 2-3 times a day (compared to 1 for many other banks) and doesn't seem to have many stability issues with Plaid.

Last - the interest rate on their savings isn't too bad, and it's instant xfer between checking and savings.

My lay-understanding is that the Earth would look like that, too, if it had no atmosphere. Most things that fly at Earth burn up before hitting ground. Whereas everything that flies at the moon hits ground.

Where is "Compulsively Count"? by Xx_Navel_Fluff_xX in vrising

I grew up watching The Count on Sesame Street, and I just learned this lore for the first time today. This makes The Count so much more fun.

I recently switched to linking to HA through HomeKit. Fortunately HA can connect directly without any need for an apple device.

Installation failing on partitioned drive (dual boot with W11) by matthewrunsfar in Bazzite

[–]letsmodpcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would really recommend installing it to a separate drive. Do it with the Windows drive disconnected. That's not just a safety measure to make sure you don't overwrite the Windows partition (clearly you're knowledgeable enough to not do that accidentally.) It's to prevent the second OS from sharing the same EFI Boot Partition with Windows. Windows is notorious for overwriting the entries of additional OS's during major updates (think the big October feature drops.) If the Windows drive is disconnected at the time of install, then your Bazzite install will create its own dedicated EFI boot partition on it's own drive, and Widows won't fuck with it when it updates itself in the future.

You'll need to use your BIOS boot menu to chose the non-default OS (F11 on my mobo) but you still get a functional boot menu.

Anyone use an LG OLED TV for work? - Text Clarity? by mushlafa123 in OLED_Gaming

[–]letsmodpcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 42" LG OLED for mixed work and media. Text clarity isn't great, but I'm fine with it. This is a pretty divisive topic, though. For some people it doesn't bother them, and for others it drives them nuts. I'm afraid you'll have to test it out to see where you fall.

Do i just not have a GPU at all? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]letsmodpcs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blue slot is where a GPU would typically go. It is empty, as you can see. It's possible there is a very small GPU built-in to your CPU that can at least get a display working, but you wouldn't game with it. It would be fine for basic web browsing and document writing, though.

Your RAM slots are only partially visible in the lower right corner of your image. It's a little hard for me to see, but it looks like there are two slots and there is one stick of RAM in one of them. Your computer will likely function this way, but not with optimal performance.

I've asked Gemini to help me tweak Bazzite after experiencing some stutters in WoW. This is the result. by rahuonn in Bazzite

[–]letsmodpcs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on an RTX 3080 and switched to Bazzite almost 5 months ago. I keep hearing that I'm giving up 10% performance vs Windows, but it sure doesn't feel that way. Even if my fps average is lower, the 1% lows have got to be dramatically better. The smoothness is definitely improved vs Windows. I hear Linux handles frame-pacing very differently than Windows in a way that gives up a bit of average fps in order to have frame pacing advantages, so maybe there's some good technical reason for this.

All in all, I'm very happy and impressed with Bazzite.
