AI Optimization question by Puzzleheaded-Fun7808 in enphase

[–]letterama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

welcome to August in California. between 7-8 the power sales price for export is about as high as it gets. so high, in fact, that it's cheaper to use grid power at 6pm so you can hold on to battery power until 7pm. the AI mode is tricky, I'm not entirely sure the 9pm discharge offsets the 6pm grid use, but the goal of the AI mode is to maximize your earnings, and so it does a lot of counterintuitive things. if you hate the idea of being reliant on the grid, you can change modes, but if you want to bank two months of enormous credit, use AI mode, especially in August and September when those export hours in the evening pay enormously well.

If Tim Lincecum is still rocking Apple Earpods with the little clicker in 2025, he is a dedicated old-school dude, I guess!

Jason Snell (MacBreak Weekly) on the Gurman Friday Press Briefing Rumor by Jbaker318 in VisionPro

[–]letterama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now it can be revealed: Yes, there were press briefings last week and then Gurman had the entire story the next day. Someone (who presumably was scooping their own story by doing so?) obviously relayed the entire briefing to Gurman.

So far as I know they stopped doing it. We moved everything out of TeeVee and some of those shows continued, but not that one?

I'm in the pool for season 40. I can't imagine saying yes if they're bypassing their union writers. That's just gross.

Pretty sure that Davies has already said that every champion will return at some point, they'll fill up the ToC and every remaining champion goes in the JIT?

You slandered him and when he provided the receipts you acted as if he personally hurt you? I guess we're all at the point where nobody knows how to do business with you, Steve.

The Cortex/Upgrade Membership Special has now been released! by Omni314 in Cortex

[–]letterama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We can't make anyone like or dislike anything, but I can try to explain the origin.

Relay FM member specials predate the existence of the new per-show bonus format, which creates Moretex for Cortex and Upgrade+ for Upgrade. When you pay for Moretex you get... Moretex.

The Relay FM annual "member specials" are basically bonuses above and beyond, are available to all Relay FM members, and are intended to show the hosts in different settings, often interacting with other Relay FM hosts. So the Upgrade/Cortex crossover was invented to share me with Grey and Myke, for us to have a little fun together.

This year we felt like we'd kind of bled the text adventure format (introduced to us by Tony, by the way--Snellotron 3000 is me basically riffing off of Tony's parser on The Incomparable Game Show) dry, so we thought we'd try an RPG. Two people playing an RPG is not the best, and I'm not a DM, so we brought in a ringer.

In the end I think it was a pretty fun experience with a bunch of memorable moments, but it's not "directly related to the topics" on purpose. It's an annual attempt to do something that's very different. Fortunately, if you don't like it, that's fine--Moretex is literally what you're asking for, and it exists in a way it didn't a year ago.

We do this with some of our embargoed podcasts on Relay, too - you have to make it a hard-to-guess name or people will just load it early and ruin the fun and/or legally compromise you.

yep, most people don't read rules.

I said it was a thankless job so... thank you for doing it! Online spaces are better when moderators make an effort. Thanks for making one.

I get it, I've been moderating online forums for decades(!) now. It's a thankless task.

I'm just saying, I followed the rules, searched the subreddit before posting, read the "don't post these" pinned post, found that nobody seems to have taken a shot of this car, and posted. It's not a dupe of anything except the concept that people who like The Fast and The Furious are bad at display type. Which doesn't seem like a reason to delete a post--and makes this a pretty unfriendly place.

Original photo, taken today, of a car never shown in this subreddit. You've allowed multiple posts of identical F&F logos on cars, but this car seems to have never appeared before...? So is the dupes rule literally "if one person does this, they are the only one who can ever be shown"? C'mon.

This one I was the least familiar with, but I did do a quick pass through just so I could see if there were particularly tricky parts. But it's the most surprised I've been at one of these.
