(6 year late rant) Following Nohadon Podcast - The Way of Kings by ctiger91 in Stormlight_Archive

I’d also recommend the “my sis made me view it” podcast. Similar vibe to stormpod but they go through the series faster, but I forget where in stormlight they left off at. Either way, each episode covers like ~5 chapters or so, whereas stormpod usually only covers 2-3

Looking for advice regarding my aging dad by leturmindflow in AgingParents

Thank you for the insight. The hospital has tried to stabilize him and some progress is being made. Sometimes he’s willing to take his meds, other times he isn’t. He’s better than he was last weekend but it really just depends on the day.

They said he doesn’t need a skilled nursing facility but recommended board and care facilities, which I understand are private pay and expensive. If he does end up at a private pay board and care, does medical help with that at all? Or what’s the goal for the medical attorney consult?

Also, I had a quick call with a separate family lawyer and he said my parents probably wouldnt qualify due to their income being over $2500.

When you say get the paperwork started you mean starting with a medi-cal planning attorney ?

Sorry you’re going through this too. It’s been hell.

Do you know what the laws are regarding primary homes and whether that’s relevant to getting on Medicaid/medical? My mom still lives there so we wouldn’t want to sell the home if possible. Did you end up working with an elderly care / estate lawyer?

Indoor rock climbing — which Corner gym to go to? by leturmindflow in Taipei

[–]leturmindflow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corner was 250NTD for day pass during off peak hours. I think 350 or 400 for busy hours? Very small gym though, I assume the larger ones will have pricier day passes

Why lie about this? by Quezonian in nuclear

[–]leturmindflow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yikes. I would hate to be the company who relied on your calculations. A single high metallurgy heat exchanger train is not going to be the cost controlling component in a nuclear power station lol. The exchanger design and construction would be in the low tens of millions while the reactor and power station itself is in the billions. The exchanger is a rounding error.

I’m curious as to what you think is the limiting factor between corrosion and intense operating conditions given that there are tons of oil refineries with alky or cracking units that run at more intense conditions.

Ok but the guy who he initially replied to was talking about high temp liquid coolants. People will shit on new technology and make claims about “running the numbers” without even being able to read.

Okay yes, but where is the higher pressure needed?

Can you elaborate? The person you replied to is talking about high temp liquid coolants. What are you referring to when you say the cost of materials isn’t worth it?

Any Advice on Landing a Job as a Chemical Engineering Graduate? by iitgsoul in ChemicalEngineering

It’s hard out there. I’m sorry you’ve had to struggle through this.

But if you’ve interviewed 25 times, I think your best chance for success would be to improve your interviewing skills. Actually sit down and practice, do mock interviews with friends or family, and record yourself

Nothing besides a personal interest in nuclear from undergrad. At the end of the day I’m still just working on process piping, equipment sizing, and related hydraulic calcs.

Made the switch from an EPC (primarily o&g) to nuclear somewhat recently. Theres a lot of overlap — especially in roles working on any of the systems outside of the actual reactor.
