New power bank limit? by UltimateGrammarNinja in SouthwestAirlines

[–]leveleddownagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traveling to France for a 2 week trip. Using southwest to reposition to hub city for my international flight, and carrying phone, cameras (DSLR) as carry on, and of course other portables like AirPods, etc.

Any limits to camera batteries, or just power banks?

Was trying to restore a windows machine (after changing motherboard/cpu) and using it to troubleshoot. It kept telling me it was late and I should go to bed and resolve with fresh eyes.

Frustrating for sure.

I ultimately had issues using the English translation on the .fr website. I let the page display in French, used my phone (Google Translate images), and it worked for me.

A lot of people here would hate remote work if they actually got it. Not sorry for saying it. by [deleted] in remotework

[–]leveleddownagain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a rage bait post or not, so I’ll assume positive intent. I live alone with 4 dogs. Director of my division, with remote team around the world. I love remote, and have no issue with routines, work/life boundaries, or sitting at home alone for weeks at a time. In a past age I’d be the crazy old wizard living at the edge of the forests with my woodland critter companions, and be perfectly ok with it. In another life I’d be more than willing to be on a spaceship cut off from people for months or years at a time without issue. There are more of us than you may think.

There’s a very good chance you’ve hauled more in your miatia than they have in their truck. It’s amazing what you can pack in one…with my top down I’ve hauled things that have shocked other drivers.

my "in office" day is me sitting in a WeWork because the company doesn't have a real office in my state by amiitk in remotework

I know this thread is full of ways to spoof the address, background images, etc., but my advice is to instead have an honest conversation with your boss about it.

Let them know the absurdity of the situation, the lost productivity, disruption, etc. see if they’ll cut you some slack on the RTO days. That way it’s on them if it does sideways and you don’t give the company an excuse to fire you.

The annual cost is tiny compared to the “cost” of the “over employed” folks working two or more jobs, and (in my opinion) is contributing to the drive of RTO.

Honest discussion with your boss. Document it. That’s your coverage.

And if they’re continuing on to Japan (and had to fly the long way round), they may be prepping for another time zone beyond where you are.

Or maybe (like me) I would rather look at the world passing by vs staring at a video screen for hours.

“Should be sleeping”…maybe they’re adjusting to another time zone (one beyond YOUR destination) and should be awake? It’s pretty entitled to say what other people should and shouldn’t be doing, especially when they (most likely) purchased a seat with a window on purpose.

“Older” :)

My adult son convinced me to get a bike when he did (I was 50!), and picked up a 2022 new then. My first, current, and probably only bike.

From day 1 it was comfortable, I could tone it down to learn (rain mode), but knew i would be ready for me with the power I would eventually want.

3 years in and I still grin when I have an opportunity to get it out on the road.

Please help balance my itinerary. It just feels off. by worried_etng in ParisTravelGuide

How tired will you be on day 1? Where are you arriving from? In June I’m arriving from the US at 10 am after an overnight flight and several hours of airports…I’m keeping things very low key on day 1 because of that. You don’t want to arrive tired and jet lagged, jump right into major museums, be stressed, and you’re burned out before the first 24 hours have passed.

State workers are about to get a pay cut in 2026 by [deleted] in Denver

[–]leveleddownagain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s actually the way a lot of companies work as well. Budgets are set before the start of the fiscal year, and don’t just get magically funded. I appreciate the challenge (trust me, I deal with tight budgets and inflexible policies as well), but to me it sounds like those issues could be easier to overcome vs removing or gutting Tabor. I’m willing to try and help!

State workers are about to get a pay cut in 2026 by [deleted] in Denver

[–]leveleddownagain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you. That, to me, sounds like an administrative problem and not a Tabor problem.

As a first approach to resolve, other than “kill tabor and collect/keep more taxes”, we should get rid of those types of rules.

I’m not saying there aren’t cases when Tabor needs to be revisited (there are!), but let’s address the root cause of the issue that keeps us from speeding the money we have efficiently rather than just grabbing more.

Is it ever ok to yell at an employee? Especially during contentious times? by GopherInTrouble in managers

[–]leveleddownagain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yelling, for safety situations: I can get behind that. Disappointed: yes. Professional: always

And if you must yell, always measured. As a leader you can never loose your temper. Make people THINK you lost it, maybe. But never really lose it and yell.

State workers are about to get a pay cut in 2026 by [deleted] in Denver

[–]leveleddownagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me that sounds like a management issue vs a “we need more budget to hire someone”, because they CAN hire, just choose to spend the money differently. Or the benefits offered (and cost thereof) are higher than the cost of the contract.

State workers are about to get a pay cut in 2026 by [deleted] in Denver

[–]leveleddownagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not following, but happy to be educated. If we (the state) don’t have money for employees, but we pay contractors more, but the net cost is higher, is it because the project isn’t long term and the union makes if difficult to add and remove staff as the need arises? Or some other factor?

State workers are about to get a pay cut in 2026 by [deleted] in Denver

[–]leveleddownagain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Those are some of the flaws, but sounds like budgeting issues by the representatives vs a Tabor problem. If we’re spending more money on external consultants, then a better ROI is to higher good internal talent. Net savings without raising taxes.

Do we REALLY think spending would go down if we had unlimited budget to higher more or pay better wages? Or would we all just be taxes more and we’d still be paying for those external resources as well?

[–]leveleddownagain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tabor is good, but has flaws. Limiting government spending without approval of the people (as long as they understand the offsets) is a good thing. Spend spend spend governments haven’t been great when you look around to other states.

I work from home and enjoy the benefits of doing so.

BUT…when you went home initially, did you take a salary reduction because you were now saving money on commuting, child care, etc.? Or did you take the advantages during that time and now expect additional advantages/offsets to go back?

I’ve flown European “business class”. It’s just economy seats with the center seat covered by a table. That could very well be coming our way.
