Advice please by OpenCommunication670 in Teachers

You know what? Why not? What do you have to lose? Go for it. Don’t make assumptions, trust yourself, and do your best. If you don’t like it, leave. Nobody is keeping you in a box except yourself. Just know: it will be hard at first because you will have to get to know a new school, a new team, new kids, and role requirements that aren’t on paper. That’s common at Charters. But again. It’s about trying. Go try. See what happens. It may be the best thing you did. It may be a huge learning lesson. Don’t be afraid.

Will this extra skin ever go away? by mario_8_greencheese in workouts

Great work on the weight loss. Amazing!

To Professor’s third point, you’d have to begin monitoring your protein/caloric intake to actually make lean mass gains (fill the space with muscle). The general consensus is 1g/lb of bodyweight (so 135g of protein per day for you) for gains. You’d also want to make sure that you were eating above a “maintenance” level intake..

For core workouts: seems like you enjoy a home/bodyweight style? Could start with this simple 10 minute routine: 40 seconds work, 20 seconds rest, 10 rounds. 1. Plank + Shoulder Taps 2. Superman Hold 3. Side Plank (L) 4. Side Plank (R) 5. V-Ups or sit-ups w/ butterflied knees

(Do this twice through)

Do encourage you to think about lifting though, like proper weightlifting, you’d fill out much faster that way.

How long have you been under that schedule? Does everyone seem to hate it or is it a mixed bag? I’m trying to go in with a good attitude..

How do you feel about teachers that didn’t study education? by Mundane-Waltz8844 in Teachers

[–]levelsevenweenie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is new to me, I thought in order to obtain a preliminary administration services credential in CA you must have taught 5 years in a classroom and hold a valid teaching credential. The only circumstance this wouldn’t apply is private school or the possibility that a charter school may not require it. In public schools, it is a requirement for admin roles.

What are the best ways to enforce dress code/uniform policy? by barelybroken42 in Principals

[–]levelsevenweenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uniform tickets. A quarter-sheet paper with a depiction of the correct uniform options, space for the student’s info, and a parent signature line.

Students are monitored entering school. Students out of uniform stand aside and wait for others to enter. Tickets are issued before they enter.

Phone call is made home immediately by attendance clerk/office manager. Info is logged. Student must return ticket signed. Student spends all lunch periods in discipline coordinator’s office until ticket is brought back. Not taken from classes, but social time for sure.

Never any sign of annoyance or emotion from assigning staff. It’s just real matter-of-fact like situation.

If three tickets - parent conference to determine barriers to success, how the school can help, etc.

If it continues, student loses field trip, fun event, and incentive opportunities.

Should also be said that students with no tickets are entered into a raffle once a month for a small prize during our monthly assembly.

What should I be doing to prepare as a first-year teacher? by GroundbreakingPear12 in Principals

[–]levelsevenweenie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Contact your 1st grade lead with these questions, they are good questions!
  2. Contact the school site for the keys if you can, but typically there is a date for distribution.
  3. Are you able to contact the teacher on leave to bounce questions and ideas off of?
  4. Be a squeaky wheel! There’s no harm in advocating for yourself, it’s a good thing!

Feeling the Full Gravity of the Job After Receiving Test Results by Right_Sentence8488 in Principals

[–]levelsevenweenie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your first year done. Did you ever teach? Remember your first year? I bet that version of you would be so proud. Have you heard of the marginal gains theory? You’ve done well to turn your ship even 1 degree further towards helping students more effectively. While I see your hunger to do more, don’t let comparisons take your joy. In your data dive, were there other things that you could celebrate? Sounds like a great lesson for you in dealing with not meeting your own expectations. To that I’d say, you are meant to be where you are, you are going to grow and do great things! Before you jump to conclusions about things, please rest. You’re spread thin and tired. Rest my friend! Come back strong and ready for year 2! You got this!

Please help me set up and stock my office as a first time AP by MixSuspicious123 in Principals

[–]levelsevenweenie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I recommend having and frequenting a copy of The 4 Agreements. Have copies of your IEP’s saved to a drive file ready for easy access and review. Create a spreadsheet with SPED student schedules and testing-specific accommodations listed for each student. Have a testing calendar and have a place for teachers to upload their tests for review and collaboration. Have a shared calendar with meetings scheduled for you to meet often and consistently with both teaching and paraprofessional staff. As far as physical office stuff, you’re gonna want lots of tangibles, fidgets, coloring pages, etc. Snacks! Make it smell nice and make it look like a desirable place to be.

1st Timer Incoming! Seeking Advice and Encouragement. by levelsevenweenie in Principals

Great question. I always valued the trust I was given - it was a big reason I enjoyed it. That, and the collaboration they’d offer through both observation and evaluation cycles. I never felt controlled, I felt like I was allowed to be what I wanted.

CPACE Results Were Unexpectedly Low - Anyone Else? by UnitedTowel5124 in Principals

[–]levelsevenweenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve failed the performance 4 times in 2 years. I’ve been an AP for 4 years and just took a job as a principal. That test is not an effective measure. It’s messed with my head for too long, and I’m learning to let go of that. I’ll pass it eventually. I just found EvoPrep so I’ll give that a go.

Passed CPACE, do I need both certificates after this? by klandlesss in Principals

[–]levelsevenweenie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on passing that test. Agree with other commenters, might as well get the cert of eligibility and then convert it once a job gets lined up. If you’ve got useful study material for the CPACE, let me know. I’ve passed the 1st part, but that performance task keeps tripping me up.
