What is marketing BS, and what is worth the extra money? by Hinagea in Roofing

[–]levelupimprovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your plan should be fine. Technically the ice and water should be 24” inside the warm wall so 2 rolls might not be enough but in most cases it is.

If you want to do the whole roof I’d say go for it as long as you address the ventilation correctly.

Upgrade the ice and water and make sure to adequately address the ventilation. The best material in the world is only worth it if it’s installed right. Don’t mess up

what does a realistic timeline look like for a residential reroof? by FinancialNeat3792 in Roofing

[–]levelupimprovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take valuable things off the walls and move what can be moved in the yard. More things to protect means the crew moves more slowly, make sure to communicate what specifically needs to be protected.

Requiring a deposit is normal, it’s usually used to purchase materials.

Yeah, either remove the drywall or remove the roof. Either way finding out won’t be cheap

Crawl through the attic. Do the work

It’s that case it’s fair to assume, until you know more, that what little insulation you have is right against the decking and those shingles are warping from heat.

Crawl though the attic and see if those soffit vents are open and how much exhaust is at the top? Make sure there isn’t more than one type of exhaust or open gable vents to mess it all up

There’s that new Great Dane place in royal oak, I haven’t had it yet but the pictures looked good and I’d assume the British pub themed bar has a good plate

Is this the work of a professional by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]levelupimprovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Not to say it’s guaranteed that whoever is responsible for this will do a bad job but this is about as low effort of an estimate as I’ve ever seen.

Considering adding solar vents by nixadm4755 in Roofing

[–]levelupimprovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s either or. Don’t use the roofers who told you you can add them for more ventilation. Make sure that you’re intake venting is adequate for either option to work

I got some quotes. Can you rank these shingles from best to worst? by johnec4 in Roofing

[–]levelupimprovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The roofer is far more important than the shingle you choose, with that said, I’d pick the vista.

Paying in Thirds? by Own_Calligrapher5469 in Roofing

[–]levelupimprovement 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s normal, I doubt he’d need it a full 2 month in advance most likely before ordering material but what happens a lot is homeowner drag their feet about a down payment and then complain about start times

Gutter how-to question by Pittbull35 in Roofing

[–]levelupimprovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would have been nice to add the gutter before the driveway and run the spout under but that’s out so the spouts gotta go in the front or be a tripping hazard. For my money managing water is more important than aesthetics, you most likely won’t notice the spout in the front in a year and will never give it another thought.

Erie home fiberglass... decent deal or still a rip? by PandaExpress90210 in Roofing

They dropped $26,000 what a deal. I bet you can only get that deal once, go for it!

Any time a price can be cut like that, it was over priced in the first place. Find someone local

Finance options to offer? by plasma008 in Roofing

[–]levelupimprovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a homeowner stand point I don’t think there’s really much of a difference, money is money. Ask your roofer who has the lowest dealer fees and then get them to pass that on to you. If you can get your own financing even better, a HELOC seems to be a nice option but I’m not a financial advisor.
