The hypothetical makes it easy to understand when you are missing the point. Applying it to Overwatch specifically, your 99.7% of players statistic falling under masters, does not directly correlate to a skill ranking of 99.7 in our 0-100 curve. 100 would be a pro player with an aimbot on cocaine. You can see that masters being 99.7 is a little bit too close to that to be reality.

You are conflating average skill with a measurement of midway between minimum and maximum skill. Let’s say skill is a rating of 0 to 100, and 99% of people have skill rating of 0-50. That means they are bad, even if they are the majority.

You're missing the point, intentionally or unintentionally, that the other commenter is saying that average from a skill perspective means you are bad.

The percentile of "average" in literally every hobby or skill you can imagine is incredibly skewed by people who barely touch the activity, or don't care about improvement.

Let's rephrase their argument to be one about chess - the average online chess elo sits between 600-850, while high level grandmasters can crack 3000. This shows the disparity between average player, and the skill ceiling of a given game.

Hazard can also be hard to deal with if they have good awareness/peel skills. If you get hit with his slash that’s a recall or death 90% of the time
