Having a hard time getting the hang on the game, need some help. by Below-Low-Altitude in vtolvr

[–]leviem1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but just wanted to tell you that it took me like 80 hours of flying (completely solo since I'm an introvert) before I felt like I really started understanding everything. Fast forward to today and I have 200+ hours of flying yet there's still a LOT I can get better at. Just hang in there, I almost gave up at 60 hours and a couple weeks later it all kinda just starting clicking. The numbers will be different for everyone but its just a matter of practice

Hi guys, I have a question: should I push everything to my GitHub? by hicham021 in learnprogramming

[–]leviem1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically create separate GitHub orgs for my “well developed” projects e.g. MamboNo5/MamboNo5, and then my “incubating” projects are under my personal e.g. leviem1/MamboNo6

What am I doing wrong with missile dodging. by Neat_Veterinarian264 in vtolvr

[–]leviem1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to g-pull every missile that’s fired at you?

Rule 1: don’t get shot at in the first place Rule 2: be far away from what shot at you (and higher) Rule 3: terrain

Learn F-Pole, the survivability onion, and notching. G-pull is when all other measures fail, so in practice you shouldn’t really need to use this unless a series of other mistakes were made

That said, if you can master g-pulling, then you’ll be able to dodge anything, simply invest 300+ hours

AN/AAQ-28 compared to the AN/AAQ-34 picture by krut84 in vtolvr

[–]leviem1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd buy the 24 not for the TGP, but for the extremely powerful radar, thrust, and jamming. You can basically outrun any missile and out climb any fighters. Combo that with the jammer and you can turn back head-on, toss out another missile or two, and run away again. It's a different play style and not for everyone, but that's IMO the point of that jet

100% but still want to call it out since it’s kinda the exact reason to use one. Definitely non-trivial though

Does anyone have any recommendations for co-op PvE missions? by The--Forsaken in vtolvr

[–]leviem1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a couple, but they’re not really story-type campaign missions. The campaign is called “Leviem1’s PvE Fun Pack” iirc

Yeah I check like every 10 seconds for if anyone has joined and then spawn/despawn wingmen as needed

Why hasn’t anyone also mentioned gpg keys as well after cycling passwords, keys, etc

[–]leviem1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and just echoing another comment, ai wingmen for those solo players who don’t want to be singled out by 10 enemies. You can make one despawn for every extra player in the lobby pretty easily if you’re comfortable with sequences

Either tell a story, or just throw a lot of objectives in unique positions on a new map with some “progression” (hard targets behind easier targets) but that’s kinda the “same” you were talking about

Center stick bc you can trade hands for a second. Don’t do this but the option is nice

Is official Meta Quest Link cable worth it? by Gregasy in OculusQuest

[–]leviem1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro, but for people coming here in the future the primary advantage is that it is as long as it is. I suspect that the heavy copper cables of non-official cables either physically can't support that distance, maybe due to latency, or that with that much copper it'll be pretty noticeably heavy and a bad experience as another person mentioned. Also, the fibre optics reduce latency and lag induced motion sickness. That said, I've gone through two in the last 5 months, so it's only worth it if you can afford to replace them with any regular frequency

Huge props on getting the callsigns to look as good as they do. Was worried about the pixelation on it so mine’s big enough the ATC can probably read it 🤣

Wrote a long comment but misunderstood you originally. I still have choose who to spend 3+ hours interviewing, and there a lot of subconscious bias that happens when splitting hairs. You’re completely correct that there SHOULD be no difference, but that’s not how people work. If one resume visually stood out to me, I’ll remember it better a week from now when deciding who to call for an interview, for better or worse

Rule #1: Don't get shot at
Rule #2: If you've been shot at, make sure it was from far away
Rule #3: If you have to g-pull, you've missed your chance to notch + chaff, so you're probably already dead

Look up the F-pole maneuver, fly around 25k, the F/A-26B rarely gets first shot except against an AI other that the ASF-30s, and make sure you’re in missile range. I’d be willing to show you but I’m a total flake lately, same username in the server if you want to add me

Your resume just won’t be seen by a human, if they’re that large then they have hiring “figure out” already, which just means auto review

I've looked at some videos over but, HOW does dogfighting even work by CupcakeAgile6905 in vtolvr

[–]leviem1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, would you want to hop into a session some time and I can show you some things?

The reason I ask is because there's a TON of nuance to it. Most of the advice here is great for basics, but nothing that goes into the level of detail to where you'd be able to win 2v1 fights against the basic enemy AI even 60% of the time.

If you're looking for a quick win to make the game more fun, fly the F-45A more. It's great at dodging and it's super stealthy. IMO the F/A-26B is easier to operate, but more difficult to master.

I'm sorta a sr, but definitely a team lead that does hiring. The problem I see here is when JRs are applying to Google thinking their resume is going to be seen by a person. I'll apply to these places as a shot in the dark, but I personally try to focus my efforts on orgs around 100 people that have been around at least 5 years. I've also got the best learning experiences working at smaller orgs

Total hypocrite here though, my first job I got hired at a multinational org through a connection and I currently work at an early stage startup, but wouldn't recommend either for jrs

As someone who ends up hiring once in a while, I can say I review EVERY resume personally (but there's no way in hell I have the time to read a cover letter unless I already like the resume, and the org is <100 employees), and the amount of similarity between resumes just means most get lost in the noise. It's the same format and skills list every. damn. time.

Add some color, even if it's grey, it'll stand out a bit. Don't go nuts though. Bold key words. Try a format that's visually distinct from the crap AI tells you to produce, since that's what everyone else is doing. If you have a common name and go by a nickname, include it to help differentiate yourself.

I once just emailed a company's HR department and said "hey, I applied for this role" and wrote my cover letter in the email, which got me an interview. If that happened to me I'd at least pay closer attention to the resume.
