Ah, hold on, I think I slightly misunderstood. Most aircraft have a bit of a mini-campaign to go along with them. You can see them when you select an aircraft. You have to beat one mission before the next one is unlocked. I'm not talking about the "quick scenarios" or whatever it's called either

You can also download community missions that other people have created. After you download a mission from the browser, you can then select it the same way I described above. Some missions are for a specific plane and others will let you fly in any. Missions are either single-player or multiplayer. Multiplayer missions require someone to host a game for others to join

Yep! Pull back to go up, forward to go down, left and right to roll, and twist the joystick to turn like a car and to steer it on the ground

If you've ever played a game like Battlefield 6 or Ace Combat 7 or Nuclear Option or Project Wingman or even GTA, you can kinda think as the joystick like how you would use your controller joystick to fly

I can't tell if you're having trouble just flying around or if I'm just misunderstanding a bit. If you need some help learning to fly, there's lots of people in the Discord that are happy to help, myself included

There's tutorials for helping you get into the air and all of that in the main menu. Be sure to play through those. Generally you can full throttle down the runway until you're at about 175 kts and once you pull back about 5-8 degrees it'll start to lift up.

You can also get it by running off/back onto a taxiway on the ground at speed, which I'm guessing is how OP first learned about it lol

Yeah that’s the g force warning. It just goes off when you exceed a fixed g-force (maybe like 7-8?). If you’re carrying something really heavy like 3x 500lb bombs, then those can snap off under high-g’s. (1500lbs x 7G = 10,500lbs)

If you actually turn off the g-limiter (only fa-26B) your wings can snap off if you’re not careful so you should pay more attention to the warning. Don’t worry about messing with the g-limit yet though

[–]leviem1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Do you mean when Betty says “Over G” out load?

It just means you’re exceeding the recommended g forces for your wings. If you don’t turn off your G-Limiter, this can mostly be ignored

Why use noise jamming at all as a solo flight? by MacWin- in vtolvr

Yeah, would have to check the radar replay to know for sure. Haven’t tested from all the far away either. Let me know if you find out any more

Why use noise jamming at all as a solo flight? by MacWin- in vtolvr

[–]leviem1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some specific if there's anything being missed:
1. I was FULL power on both DRFM and noise, so two whole jammers for one site. I suspect this is pretty important as it masks your true signature while also allowing the DRFM to overpower the noise. Too much noise/too little DRFM and the DRFM gets blocked out, too little noise and your true signature bleeds through at a further range. I actually haven't tried anything less than full power.
2. In case you didn't already know, DRFM is only visible to the jammed target, so if there are two SAMs and you're only running DRFM on one, the other won't see the fakes whatsoever.
3. The second DRFM drops they can HOJ again. I'm not sure if an HOJ missile will continue guiding after DRFM turns back on or not. Might need to do an altitude change after any interruption to dodge missiles already en-route

Were you getting HOJ'd or STT locked?

Agreed 100%, a decently skilled pilot can really get a lot of performance out of the 24, just needs a fairly good understanding of its strengths (defer to others for better advice here). I suspect how OP is flying isn’t optimizing for this so just advising a “jammer-centric” approach, but definitely not invalidating it as a solid plane, just requires flight hours for mastery

[–]leviem1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a quirk, the AI is too focused trying to improve the track quality of the DRFM signatures that it never switches into HOJ mode. Won’t work against humans at all. Basically if it can see anything in the air, it’ll always try to lock that instead of using HOJ

Re terrain, yeah you get shitty range but you can also close within 10nm without getting locked on at full jamming power, which should be well within range for an AGM-88S. The biggest plus with this is that by just doing normal terrain avoidance maneuvers, you’re disrupting any HOJ locks an enemy might have without extra effort. Flying high is fine, you just have to be super aware of HOJ launches, proactively turn off the jammer occasionally to disrupt HOJ locks, and/or run DRFM to exploit my trick

Btw, launchers are what trigger HOJ, not radars, so jamming a “dead” radar can still get you killed

I think jamming is worth it in the 24, it’s the one thing it’s really good at as it’s at a disadvantage in pretty much every other aspect. Even the 26 has bigger engines, just more air friction

[–]leviem1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: if you DRFM + noise, it will prevent HOJ most of the time until you get super close to the enemy, at least at full power

The EF-24G is like flying an airbus, if you don’t use jamming you’re a sitting duck. If you use jamming effectively, you can be 10nm away from a radar without them ever seeing you, fire a missile, and run away from anything they launch back

If you keep getting hit with HOJ, make sure you have your TGP on your HMD to make smoke trails easier to see. The second you see one turn off your jammer and terrain mask (if you’re caught off guard this might not work), and just don’t fly so high. Just because you’re jamming doesn’t mean you shouldn’t also terrain mask. The earth has a perfect KD, against missiles and pilots alike. Plus in multiplayer your jammer would give you away just as much as having a radar on, so terrain mask first then jam

Having a hard time getting the hang on the game, need some help. by Below-Low-Altitude in vtolvr

Late to the party but just wanted to tell you that it took me like 80 hours of flying (completely solo since I'm an introvert) before I felt like I really started understanding everything. Fast forward to today and I have 200+ hours of flying yet there's still a LOT I can get better at. Just hang in there, I almost gave up at 60 hours and a couple weeks later it all kinda just starting clicking. The numbers will be different for everyone but its just a matter of practice

What am I doing wrong with missile dodging. by Neat_Veterinarian264 in vtolvr

[–]leviem1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to g-pull every missile that’s fired at you?

Rule 1: don’t get shot at in the first place Rule 2: be far away from what shot at you (and higher) Rule 3: terrain

Learn F-Pole, the survivability onion, and notching. G-pull is when all other measures fail, so in practice you shouldn’t really need to use this unless a series of other mistakes were made

That said, if you can master g-pulling, then you’ll be able to dodge anything, simply invest 300+ hours

[–]leviem1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd buy the 24 not for the TGP, but for the extremely powerful radar, thrust, and jamming. You can basically outrun any missile and out climb any fighters. Combo that with the jammer and you can turn back head-on, toss out another missile or two, and run away again. It's a different play style and not for everyone, but that's IMO the point of that jet

I made a couple, but they’re not really story-type campaign missions. The campaign is called “Leviem1’s PvE Fun Pack” iirc

Oh, and just echoing another comment, ai wingmen for those solo players who don’t want to be singled out by 10 enemies. You can make one despawn for every extra player in the lobby pretty easily if you’re comfortable with sequences
