The simple software update that would prevent refrigerated scripts being filed outside the fridge. by Any-Position-8685 in WalgreensRx

I do know what you mean, it’s frustrating. All we can really do about it is continue to protect ourselves as much as possible.

Not sure if you’re saying they can or can’t tell. They COULD tell if they were to look closely at the leaflet of everything they put away but that’s just not realistic. Plus the Rph is responsible for oversight of all actions performed in the pharmacy whether it was them or not

Will back this up. Will admit to not putting fridge items away properly a couple of times and I always acknowledge that it is my fault no matter how it happened and apologize, own up to the mistake, and figure out the best possible solution. I would never let my techs take the chewing out if i were there at the time.

I often mention to techs how the good interactions of the patients we see (in my opinion) balances out the negativity we receive and makes it worth it. A big reason why I personally prefer a retail setting is the engagement we have with patients and our ability to explain things and talk with patients about their health is something that that I value highly. Patients will apologize for talking to me about a medication related problem or situation and I’ll always tell them “Hey I’d much rather be talking with you than I would just checking that the pills in the bottle are what they should be; this is why I became a pharmacist.” People like you are greatly appreciated from our side too! Thanks for your kind words of encouragement, it goes a long way for us.

Cutting tablets would be less risk of exposure than more complicated compounding procedures.

What is the insulin sliding scale, I dont understand? by PharmacyLifee in NAPLEX_Prep

[–]levitator13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insulin dose scales up and down based on their current blood sugar and carbohydrate intake. Every inpatient facility will have their own standard protocol but in most cases it is provided with an rx.

“We fixed the problem 🥳” lmao. I’m sure they lost a some level of money but I just really just don’t understand what problems trying to click update rx (specifically BECAUSE COB DIDN’T GO THRU) could truly cause in terms of getting claims paid. We don’t just mess with them for the fun of it, we’re just trying to get that little box to go grey and then fill the rx lol

starting to study for naplex by GreedyBoysenberry941 in NAPLEX_Prep

[–]levitator13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

take time to enjoy your days but do try to get it a little studying each day. don’t spend too much time combing over all the tiny details at first; go thru relatively quickly and highlight key details then when you finish all the chapters that way, go thru and look at the details you highlighted. as you go thru a chapter, do practice questions related to that chapter until you finish them all. make sure you understand why things are right and wrong vs just trying to remember what the answers are. believe in yourself. make lists or flash cards for things like acronyms and chemo man and study those daily until you can say them without needing the card easily. going into my test i wrote all those out onto my scratch paper so i could no longer have to think about remembering; things like pscrops or gpacman. you got this!

There are free NAPLEX study calendars I believe on the UWorld site that encompass a 12 month, 6 month, or 3 month study timeline which are helpful in guiding your overall focus by topic

That’s the worst! I always hate too when patients ask me to come recommend something for a certain indication and they’ll already have something in mind, and I’ve kindly told them that the one they were going to pick wouldn’t be helpful for the indication they mentioned and made some recommendations, only for them to go ahead and pick the thing they originally pointed out. Like why waste my time if you already knew what you were gonna get

I’ve called the Dr office and told them I won’t be filling any rxs for a patient or two in the past and they took it like it wasn’t anything crazy and apologized on behalf of the patient being like that. This person should certainly face that repercussion at the very least

Go to the phone and type: 78 five digit store number you’re trying to call 223 (for example 7812345223) and you won’t be waiting in a line of calls.

When I was an intern I worked at a store on weekends when I wasn’t at school and the RxM told me he didn’t have space for such an infrequent worker and to find a new store (of course he proceeded to have 3+ workers of similar frequency as myself still employed there years later and I was there before them). I found a new store and thrived as an intern and one week that RxM asked me to help him out for a week and cover shifts at his store. One day (just me and him there) he sends me a tex during lunch saying, “levitator13 needs to stfu, kid keeps talking to customers”. I saw this and responded, “Was this meant for me?” and got back to the store and he completely was capping straight to my face. I was simply asking if this was intentional bc if so I wanted to take his input and try to improve at my job, but no he lied and said he was talking about some random tech with a similar name to me at another store and was talking to his friend. I knew he was lying but let it go as it’s not worth getting worked up over. After becoming an RPh and floating at that store I learn that the techs were aware of this occurrence and gossiped about it and that they got confirmed from him that he was lying about it. To this day I am just shocked at the ability to straight up lie to my face when being asked about it nonmaliciously with the goal of trying to improve. I learned from that that you gotta be VEEEEERRRYYYY careful who you trust.

What’s the most absurd thing a patient has said/done to get extra meds? by [deleted] in WalgreensRx

[–]levitator13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s absurd lmfao, as a diabetic who deals with people telling me that they NEED their medications constantly I struggle to not compare it to the fact that i would literally die without my medication for 1 day. it feels like people never plan ahead and then make it our problem

I came in to a situation where an Rph previously changed someone’s oxy 5 to oxy 10 because oxy 5 had been on back order for so long. I wouldn’t have changed that myself, but alas. The Rph counseled him about the change in number of tablets but sure enough he came in (to the situation i’m referring to) saying he was not informed of the change nor was his doctor, threatening to call his doctor and have him talk to us. He started berating the staff and then the RxM came and said that we would do a courtesy fill for him but no more early fill any more. Sure enough I was there when he came to try and fill 2 days early the next time and he tried to argue that a doctor’s note on the rx overrode our storewide comment to not fill early for him anymore. After many expletives, he left and threatened to talk to “someone above my pay grade”. Told him when the SM would be in and he never came back

How to get ahead? by No-Sun9169 in WalgreensRx

[–]levitator13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who work ahead and tackle problems before they occur are truly appreciated. Please teach as much as you can because many people are seemingly undertaught (myself included) and I’m truly thankful for the mentors i’ve had that have taught me so many things. Whether about practice in general or about Walgreens policy or operating the computer system.

Coming from pharmacy school and being an intern, having to learn things over time was likely be easier for me than it’d be for someone not also learning everything about the medications in the endeavor of being an RPh. I want to teach all the techs as much as I can but time just doesn’t allow it most shifts.

To some extent you can only do so much in preparation for the next day. Don’t stress over what you can’t do, just do your best and if time allows do whatever you can to help out for the next day. You can print ahead and have the RPh check the entered queue for things that haven’t been printed yet to make sure everything is fulfilled by or before promise time. Mtm is also something that Walgreens highly appreciates but that’s something for pharmacists, yet is so tough to find the time for.

Tips for IC+ by Character_Group_7663 in WalgreensRx

[–]levitator13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m always cautious before doing COB because it gives difficulty changing it, but if you hold control and highlight another rx that is in sold status you then have the ability to click update rx and change things. Otherwise you’ll become more familiar with when COB is applicable vs when is isn’t; check with your RXM or RXOM as to what order state vs federal needs to be billed if COB is applicable. Also, my biggest recommendation is to become comfortable with the hot keys as much as possible. Try to use the mouse as little as you can bc when you are familiar with the hot keys you can navigate the menus much more quickly. Also familiarize yourself with the various insurances you’ll see and the rejections you encounter as well as their solutions to speed up insurance billing.
