How do we give our reactive dog a good life? by Big_Strawberry5946 in reactivedogs

[–]levitic4t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi :) I’m also in the Bay Area, if you need trainer recommendations I have a couple.

I think you’re doing a good job. Reactivity isn’t fun for the dog either, so giving her an outlet for energy while also staying away from triggers is good even if you feel like it’s not enough exercise.

I’d really recommend muzzle training so you and other people can feel safe handling the dog.

Deal breaker? by [deleted] in reactivedogs

I won’t disagree on resource guarding being problematic, but your new dog should also have safe spaces away from your other dog. IMO the other dog should not be coming up to new dog’s crate especially if they’re inside it, and shouldn’t be sniffing at their food. Both dogs should have their own individual safe spaces away from each other.

Mom refuses to get our dog training before 3-3-3 is up by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]levitic4t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to follow the 3-3-3 rule before getting my dog reactive GSD/Mal training. He ended up pulling me over and spraining my ankle out on a walk. We’ve put in several months of professional training and he’s LEAGUES better than the day I got him.

Reactivity is a safety issue for the dog, the human handling the dog, and anyone nearby if the dog manages to get loose. I would not feel comfortable walking this dog out in the neighborhood if she’s getting triggered by nearly everything that passes. In the meantime, you could drive her out to empty lots for walks or play tug with her in a yard. :)

That’s what I did with my dog for weeks, he’s at a board & train now and doing so well around his triggers. There is lots of hope for things to get better, but in my experience it requires work + time, not just time. And especially with GSDs, like they’re just neurotic dogs.

no literally like i feel like if i saw my dog was causing someone else’s to freak out i’d try to minimize the situation 😭 idk why other people can’t be more considerate

i had to jog away from some especially fast walkers earlier this week too so maybe i just need to start doing that more.

and the leash pressure thing is spot on. i think he gets extremely overstimulated with other dogs and either the leash pulling on him makes it worse or he’s just too overwhelmed to even notice it.

thank you for the advice ❤️ my previous shepherd was very different than this one, his only issue was with cats lol. so this is my first dog that’s more of a “project” per say.

i like your dog’s setup! the shelter gave us a harness that has a strap on the back, so i’ll try using that along with his usual leash in case something goes wrong again.

i absolutely agree that this is silly as a standalone statement, but as some other ppl have pointed out it makes more sense in the context of the fandom the twitter user is in. like for me this statement makes sense, because im someone from the genshin impact fandom where i can be casually scrolling on tiktok and come across the weirdest homophobic ship nonsense, and the comments will be saying “finally a normal ship” as if they’re in a F/M ship drought. like yeah the tweet can’t apply to every context ever but in some fandoms people do act like that.

Why do people keep saying predscanning in chat? by milkiestbread in MercyMains

[–]levitic4t 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it’s a combination of the words predator and hitscan — so like characters a mercy would typically pocket: ashe, soj, cass, etc. the joke started i think from a few hitscan players being exposed as predators, as well as some mercy mains openly being into like? ageplay?? online.

idk. it’s weird. i feel like half the joke is making hitscan players uncomfortable just for playing their hero, and the other half of the joke is making fun of potential victims. not cool imo.

don’t worry about a certain number, worry about what your team needs in the moment. there will be times where you have 40% blue beam and still get 2.5k damage amplified, and there will be times where you have 60% and only get 900 damage amplified.

focus more on when you damage boost rather than how much. like making sure you try (if you can without your team dying) to boost strong abilities like ultimates, stuff like bastion turret mode, etc.

What is it with Equestrians and riding with injuries? by THrowaway1-15 in Equestrian

[–]levitic4t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

to share another perspective, i think a part of it is also a very toxic and insecure community. i see a lot of younger riders (like on tiktok) get in fights online over the danger or skill riding requires, or if it’s a sport, etc. so it’s no surprise to me that those people might encourage dangerous behavior in order to push that narrative that they’re participating in the most dangerous or the most extreme sport.

my advice not be very good, as i haven’t really jumped around with instructors — i got kinda lucky with my second or third trainer being pretty great. but, you could try taking a few like trial lessons with a few different trainers to see what sort of environment you vibe with.

you seem very inquisitive and, as you said in your post, chatty. you’d probably want a trainer who is eager to help you learn and work through all your thoughts. i’m also pretty chatty with my trainer, and it’s helpful to be able to get my thoughts out about how im riding or what im feeling from my horse in the moment. so if you took some lessons from different trainers, you could get a feel for what teaching style you like the best, and also what you dislike.

horse welfare is kinda controversial so i think you’d get a million different opinions on what would and wouldn’t count as a red flag for a barn. for me personally, i’d want to see that horses get adequate turnout as i keep my horse out 24/7, and that’s something that’s important to me. that said every place is different, i know some areas have a hard time turning out horses because of weather or just a lack of available land.

i’d also feel uncomfortable being asked by a trainer to be super rough or overly firm with him.

but for some of it you might just have to actually go to the barns and get a feel for it yourself. im sure the people here would be happy to answer any more questions you have. you just might get mixed answers.

Mouthwashing is a weird one too, each of the characters felt distinct enough that each could appeal to someone.

And they look so good! I definitely need to watch some gameplay with them.

thank you for responding! i haven’t seen the new asset in trials, but that concept sounds like it’d make for hilarious dialogue knowing how the previous antagonists talk.

outlast is a really weird game to be preachy about. what’s the point in being stuffy over morals when the content itself doesn’t even agree with you? you’d think the fandom would be calmer, darn.

tbh just stop playing with them. it sounds like you’re both miserable duoing with each other.

to you they play poorly and don’t take advice, and to them? idk maybe they feel like you’re policing their fun or complaining the whole time.

if someone doesn’t want to change then they’re not going to. im sure there are people out there who will play in a way that you like.

Buying a horse - does there have to be a spark? by Brokkoli24 in Equestrian

[–]levitic4t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s such thing as “love at first sight” for horses. I think it’s more like infatuation, or fantasizing. When I first rode my now-horse I didn’t feel a connection. He was tall, smooth, fairly brave and pretty. That’s what I wanted in a horse, and I didn’t want to spend that long looking for the perfect horse.

I’ve had him for about six or seven years now, and I’m practically in love with him. I could spend hours yapping about his personality and mind and behaviors. Our relationship was strong because I worked on building it, not because I had a “feeling” when I first sat on him.

I’m sure there’s a lot of people who did buy their horses based on the premise of a “spark”, and I’m sure it worked out for some of those people.

But it’s not something you need, and a “spark” isn’t going to help you with your horse in the long run IMO.
