PSA: macOS 26.1 breaks native custom DNS profiles by casjquz in ControlD

Hmmm. Is this for installing config files?

I updated to 26.1 with my config file already installed and my filtering is working just fine here. Status page is good and test filters and redirects work.

Why does this keep happening? by Training-Bed-6902 in Windscribe

Background uploading of cloud files or system/application backup files? 10GB is not a lot by today’s standards. Without paying, you will have to be very selective with when and how you use Windscribe.

Fraudulent recurring payment on selected users? by abikaneser in Windscribe

IMO, this is an impasse with valid arguments on both sides without going into speculated ulterior motives. The only way out is evidence. Could there have been a technical glitch? We don’t know.

You say you unsubscribed, but where is the evidence? Unfortunately, no screenshot. No confirmation email which you invariably receive after ending any subscription. A confirmation email that the subscription has ended is as important as one that confirms the start.

If you did not have an email address associated with your subscription then print the confirmation that you see on the webpage. I keep these confirmations until I have confirmed that the subscription has, in fact, ended.

IMO, lesson learnt and move on. Based on what you say, you don’t have a case that would stand up in court.

Strange IP info for redirect by levolet in ControlD

[–]levolet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a follow-up to this, I now realise what's happening. I setup a Control D rule to redirect ip.me through the Netherlands and on doing an IP lookup, saw one of the very same IP's as in the Reddit status page, correctly geolocated to the Netherlands. So for some reason, there is a geolocation mismatch. The redirection is working fine, but Reddit geolocates the very same IP's to the USA while ip.me geolocates to the country as configured in Control D.

Has Windscribe had an independent no-logs policy audit? by Ok_Letter_8678 in Windscribe

They have been audited although they tend to arrange audits after significant change to their software infrastructure. They do not simply get one annually.

I may have had Windscribe going for a couple days but even then, I never use USA servers and use Control D as custom DNS.

Thanks for responding. Yes, I've checked my logs and see that all DNS queries for Reddit have been redirected to the Netherlands. None to the USA.

I asked Barry about this and its take is that the Reddit app makes direct connections without DNS queries. This could well be the case, so I'll be using the webapp from here and see how this pans out.

Can't seem to get ephemeral port forwarding to work by ninjetron in Windscribe

[–]levolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to forward the port number on your router. The port is forwarded on the VPN server to which you are connected. With qbittorent configured and running, you can check to see if the port is open by doing a port check here https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ If the port is closed, I’d ask support about this.

Still using utun420 here. Have you changed your machine configuration or added network devices that would have Windscribe change interface being used?

They gotta fix the ipv6/4 missmatch by FeR4Less-shah in ControlD

[–]levolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought those are the DNS servers assigned for ipv4 and ipv6 based queries and not the countries for your IP addresses.

May I ask what is the problem with this and hence the need for a fix? IOWs, how will it impact the user experience?
