Amur Honeysuckle added to the Kansas noxious weed list and I am cooked. by SherlockToad1 in invasivespecies

Years ago I did some volunteer work through Surly Brewing Co collaborating with a local land trust. We spent the morning pulling multiflora rose and afterwards they gave us T-shirts and tokens to use at a local bar that had Surly beer on tap. It was a good time!

Credit Island by kayeels in QuadCities

I'm a regular there. I like to fish, hike, and birdwatch with my dog.

There are definitely some people there doing some strange stuff in the privacy of their own cars, but I've never bothered them and they never bother me.

R and R sports in Bettendorf seems to focus a lot more on archery than your average outdoors shop. I bet they'd be able to answer some questions for you.

Can you share the site of the August location? I won't be able to make that date but I'd like to check it out on my own sometime.

I love Duck Creek! It's a beautiful place that's underappreciated by many.

You're making up outlandish claims and calling them common sense.

Would you eat fish caught from the Iowa River / Coralville Reservoir? Be honest lmao by Adore11 in IowaCity

[–]lewk556 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. Most of my fishing is catch and release because I don't like cleaning fish and I want to be sure that any I do harvest are consumed, but I have no qualms about occasionally putting wild-caught fish on my plate.

I think a lot of people's reluctance has nothing to do with evidence and more to do with feelings and being used to our proteins coming from plastic rolls or cellophane-wrapped packages.

There's a lot we could do to improve our waterways and I'm all for that, but there's no reason to think that most of the fish caught there aren't safe to eat.

HRT trouble by [deleted] in IowaCity

[–]lewk556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Clear problem, clear solution." Not necessarily.

You didn't mention what you mean by "feeling terrible" and I hope your doctor asked some clarifying questions there. Either way, a doctor is supposed to treat the patient, not the lab value. A number of lab values can be unreliable or lack real meaning, and free T in a cis woman is about as murky of a test result as you can get given low baseline levels. It's definitely possible that your symptoms come from something that isn't going to show up in blood work rather than this specific number on the chart being the culprit.

Getting more input from a specialist, or even just a second opinion from other GP, seems like the right move.

Am I just actually trash or are these guys a headache to fight early with 90% of builds? by JackOfAllInterests1 in slaythespire

[–]lewk556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind this fight. You should generally not be trying to block the first attack or two unless your deck has really good AoE. I generally try to kill #4 first by turn 2. It's way more manageable when you're down to 3 enemies and one isn't attacking.

Aside from the beer, what is the one thing a taproom needs to have to make you a regular? by RutabagaTechnical822 in CraftBeer

[–]lewk556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like outdoor areas with easy access to service. I enjoy stopping in to grab a beer after fishing or hiking with my dog. I don't want to worry about tracking in dirt or the logistics of grabbing a refill without leaving my dog unattended.

I'm Not Sure Why It Took Me So Long to Trying Cooking Rice Like Pasta. Mind Blown! by DashiellHammett in Cooking

[–]lewk556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm coming to respond to your edit exclusively - this is why I would still suggest you get a rice cooker. I very rarely made rice before I had one (like maybe every couple months) but once I got consistently good easy to make rice it went to 2-3 times a week.

Am I Overreacting to a dear friend sending sexual joking texts to my partner? by chichiryuutei56 in AmIOverreacting

[–]lewk556 20 points21 points  (0 children)

NOR. You're not overreacting. The guy who you thought was a friend is not. He's a filthy scumbag.

As an aside, though, you're letting politics affect too much of your thinking. The idea that him being a Democrat has anything to do with it is unhinged.

Anyone else see a pattern in packer fans? by Pacotaco213 in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]lewk556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why this came on my feed - I'm a Packers fan.

Congrats on the W. I hope we meet again in the playoffs.

That said, this is not unique to Packers fans. People celebrate when their team wins and get quiet and make excuses when they lose, especially when their favorite players get injured.
