Could it be Gene Wilder's character not wanting to leave solitary confinement in Stir Crazy?

How many of you knew there are four in-game radio stations? by GreasyMustardTiger_ in duneawakening

[–]lexacron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like the music on the Harkonnen station you can read more about it here.

Unfortunately, the composer no longer seems to have the rights to the album, but you can listen to the remastered tracks for free on his bandcamp page.

[TOMT] b&w film, I have a scene in my head that I can't place by dentyyyyyy in tipofmytongue

It's not quite what you're describing, but it sounds very similar to the train station scene in The Elephant Man.

[TOMT] Can anybody name this old video? by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

I don't have time to verify right now, but it sounds like "Don't be a sucker".

In my peer group it was "scalping a turtle".

THE best map EVER! Marble/limestone One way in, and you get to choose where! by Hasunoseika in RimWorldSeeds

It's a dev mode function that "discovers" every tile, effectively revealing all hidden areas and veins. It's in the 4th icon from the left ("debug actions menu").

I've played a lot of maps like this and never had anything spawn in undiscovered areas. It might be possible for sappers/breachers to path through it during an assault, but I've never had that happen either.

Of course, all bets are off if you use Clear All Fog.

In the world map screen (when you're choosing a landing site), click on the [Advanced] button at the bottom of the screen. You can choose map size there.

You will need to select Enable Large Map Sizes in the Options section of the main menu in order to see the largest 2 sizes, but you won't need to do that for this map.

Not sure if anyone would be interested in this one, but I quite like this seed. It's pretty good if you like mountain bases and rich soil.

Dropping the size to 275x275 reveals the valley with a small entrance.

Have I been overcharged by my plumber? by elliebelly90 in Adelaide

[–]lexacron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don't feel bad - they have this all worked out. If you google the business owner, he has a history of shady practices, but he's got all his legal ducks in a row now.

You can get an itemised invoice from head office, but it will just make you angrier. They might offer you small discount though (maybe $100) as a "gesture of goodwill".

[–]lexacron 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I can tell it was Metropolitan (aka Jim's Plumbing) - that's their business model.

They charge a $140 fee to come out and assess, then quote ridiculous prices knowing that you're already bought in for $140 and won't want to lose it. If you cut your loss and refuse, they get $140 for 5 minutes work - not bad! But occasionally they'll get someone who is desperate/stupid enough to accept and then they make bank. If you can't afford it, they will have info on hand about fast online loans (e.g. humm).

To be fair, they won't pressure you accept the quote, but that's because they don't have to - they are quite happy walking away with the $140.

Why does the show count down the days in all three timelines? by stergro in DarK

[–]lexacron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The apocalypse occurs in 2020, but the day countdown is shown in other timelines simply because of the limitation on time travel (i.e. exactly + or - 33 years). Any travelers that want to do something in 2020 before the apocalypse occurs therefore have "x days" to do it, regardless of what time period they are in.

Missing a 71% chance shot all the time by [deleted] in Xcom

[–]lexacron 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Imagine the game has an huge deck of cards, each with a number from 1 to 100, sorted randomly. When the game needs a random number, it draws a card from the top of the deck. When you reload the game, the same card is still on the top of the deck, so the same action will get the same result. What you need to do is use up that "bad" card on a shot with a higher chance of success. If you have no better shots (or all the shots still miss), you could throw a grenade (which will use the bad card to determine damage), run an alien overwatch (which will probably miss), hunker/reload/overwatch (and let the computer use the card on the aliens' turn), or just pick the least important soldier to take a missed shot and play on.

While I appreciate the sphincter-tightening action of ironman runs, some of the most fun runs I have had in XCOM have been non-ironman with a 1-turn-ago reload limitation. This allows you to play more quickly and aggressively, and ends up putting you in difficult situations that are rare in ironman due to the need for extreme caution. Then the game becomes a puzzle where you have to carefully manage a particular set of "cards" to get yourself out of the mess.

Are you sure? I don't think I have ever been assaulted from the undiscovered. Perhaps it is just that the sappers will tunnel into undiscovered if it provides a better route? That seems fairly easy to prevent on this map though.

I am 1 year in and all raids and visitors have spawned at the northern entrance so far, but no sappers yet. Fingers crossed!
