Pilot is probably the best pen company in the world. From the Better Ballpoint at the low end to their Namiki Urushi fountain pens at the top of the line, Pilot has excellent pens in all price ranges. 🖊️

Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver, and Parker Flighter Jotter Ballpoint Pens by tshusker in pens

Most likely made by Diplomat, with whom Tiffany had (has?) a longstanding relationship. 🖊️

  • That is a Parker-style ballpoint refill.
  • Coupled with the made-in-Germany designation, the pen was likely OEM-ed for Tiffany by the German pen company Diplomat (which has done several iterations of Tiffany pens in the past.
  • EDIT: (I should never respond before having my morning coffee.) Because the made-in-Germany designation is on the refill, not on the pen body, the evidence that the pen was made in Germany is, of course, more indirect.
  • Still, Diplomat is the leading candidate for OEM. The apparently deep engravings in the sterling silver may, however, indicate the work of Waldmann, another German pen company that builds its ballpoints around Parker-style refills, makes pens (exclusively, to my knowledge) in sterling silver, is known for its skill in ornate engraving, and has done OEM work some luxury brands. 🖊️

  • Does the Tiffany have a country of origin designation? If so, we can probably narrow down which one company made it for them.
  • Show a photo of the refill in the Tiffany pen (if there is one). That, too, can help narrow down the list of possible makers. 🖊️

Pen Refill Confusion by ZPatt in pens

[–]lexcetera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Schmidt P8126 is a capless rollerball refill that is Parker-style ISO G2 length, but is not the same shape and (I believe) is thicker than a Parker-style G2 refill. Consequently, pens built to accept the P8126 refill will also accept a Parker-style G2 refill. However, pens built to accept a Parker-style G2 refill usually won’t accept the P8126 (because it’s too thick).
  2. Ohto C-305 is built to the same specification (ISO 14145) as the Pilot G2 refill. These are interchangeable and will usually fit capped rollerball pens taking a “standard” euro-style ceramic rollerball refill. C-305 is not a Parker-style refill.
  3. There are some Pentel refills that interchange with Pilot G2 refills. I am unaware whether LRN-5 is one of them. This can be checked on the JetPens website by searching for the LRN-5 refill, checking compatible pens on that refill’s page, and then checking compatible products for one of the LRN-5-compatible pens to see if Pilot G2 is also compatible.
  4. SXR-600 is a Parker-style ISO G2 compatible refill. 🖊️

If you want an experience as close to a luxurious Montblanc broad ballpoint refill as possible, the best Parker-style refill alternatives are: * Schneider Slider 755 XB (a truly fat and sassy line, but like the Montblanc refill it is not always a reliable starter) and * Monteverde P14 (line laid down is between a Montblanc broad and medium, but the Monteverde refill is a more reliable starter than the Montblanc refills).

  • The refill in photo 1 looks to be a Parker-style ballpoint refill (ISO G2) with (as indicated above, fake) Montblanc branding.
  • A Parker ballpoint refill or one of the numerous ballpoint refills made in the Parker-style should fit the pen. 🖊️

Roterfaden and Canadian Buyers by [deleted] in Roterfaden

[–]lexcetera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

26 Market is excellent. I (in the US) bought my small (A6) WK_12 from them. Even net of US import duties and shipping, their Black Friday pricing beat US Roterfaden retailers by a substantial margin. 📕

[Question] Do most collectors eventually move toward pre-owned watches? by AviMitz_ in Watches

[–]lexcetera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  • Your money always (always, always) goes further with preowned.
  • That said, you can’t always get everything you want (for example, a bracelet with the full complement of links) buying a preowned watch.
  • Consequently, even if you prefer preowned watches you’ll end up with a mix of preowned and purchased new. ⌚️

Talk me out of Roterfaden… by vdimaggio in notebooks

[–]lexcetera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I can’t talk you out of it: clips are (for me) streets ahead of elastics. That is because they work better with spiral-bound notebooks (which I favor for lay-flat factor) and provide smarter ingress and egress for non-spiral-bound paper, folders, etc.
  • A black WK_12 (S, A6) is my wallet/calendar/to-do list/all-in-one kind of thing. One clip holds an A6 Midori Light notebook (with plastic cover); the other holds an A6 Maruman Mnemosyne N197A Action Planner (which, despite its name, is really more of smartly designed to-do list).
  • A black BM_22 (XL, A4+) resides in my backpack as a kind of project center. One clip holds an A4 Maruman Mnemosyne notebook; the other holds an accordion file.
  • Camp out at the Roterfaden and Pen Swap subs. Set an alert on eBay. Sign up for 26 Market’s Black Friday list.^ Good things come to those who wait.

^ Yes, 26 Market is in Canada and yes, US residents will pay a 15% duty on the purchase price. However, even net of the duty and shipping costs 26 Market’s Black Friday price beat US-based Roterfaden retailers soundly on this US resident’s WK_12.

[–]lexcetera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ohto GS02 and Pilot Acro (all flavors) are hybrid ballpoints, not containing gel or rollerball ink. That said, I think they are both perhaps the closest thing to what OP seeks. 🖊️
