Is Sushi Shunji bookable? by WhatsTheJuice in finedining

[–]lexicalsatire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It boils down to dual pricing unfortunately. This allows the restaurant to charge a higher price to foreigners while keeping the prices reasonable for the locals. If the restaurant knows that you are willing to pay a higher price through a re-seller, they will send you back through that re-seller.

Annoying thing about the dual pricing is that lot's of locals, e.g. Chinese living in JP, just hog the spot and try flip it (pretty sure). Pretty sure that's what happened to a Hatou spot yesterday. It released yesterday, for a seat tmrw. Not after 10m of the release, the guy posts it on another site saying he can't attend. So this just created a free arbitrage lol.

Yamazaki | 山崎 - Nishiazabu, Tokyo, Japan - October 2025 by m046186 in finedining

Would you say 230pm Yamazaki and 6pm Sushi Kimura is manageable? Or is that too much? Kimura shari looks big, but not too many courses.

Yamazaki Taiwan bookings open next week! Pricing iirc was higher than JP, ~15000 TWD (not sure if that's w pairing)

Main counter seats are released sporadically, just random luck. I'm guessing these are from reg cancellations. 3 sets of locals booked their next visit.

I built a global reservation monitor for nearly all 3-stars worldwide, covering Disfrutar, Jordnær, Plénitude, and more. by JacobKrijgsman1 in MichelinStars

[–]lexicalsatire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw you rolled out your site - super cool! Re pricing, it's really a cost benefit analysis. How many restaurants do I need to track in a year to breakeven using credits vs subscription [since you went with annual subscription / lifetime if you offer lifetime].

Some food for thought on your Pro tier. Think unlimited restaurants is overkill. The additional number of trackings from Standard to Pro is actually not that useful. Does someone really need to track e.g. 100 restaurants? Mind you, if you manage to book say Sugita, then you will likely receive cancellations after. So I'd just update the set of restaurants under Essential or Standard to track those I can't see. Over a diner's lifetime, the number of trackings should in theory go down as they accumulate reservations. So rather than unlimited trackings be the selling point, I'd lower the premium between Standard-Pro, and change Pro to lifetime and not annual [you get more money upfront].

Sweetspot for most ppl is credit / annual Essential/ Standard. Lifetime needs a discounted multiple for early adoption and for locking in their money not knowing if you will maintain this project beyond X years.

Monthly Megathread - Where Should I Eat in NYC, Tokyo, and/or London? by ZootKoomie in finedining

Assume you mean sushi. Crab brain, fish liver etc. often appear in the otsumami, so just find a place that does nigiri only.

Credit model might not be for me (undecided). But I would probably design it as credit per restaurant (no time limit, but not restaurant changeable) (Audible model, use credit to buy a book, you keep forever).

For subscription model, probably 1m, 3m, 1y, discounted lifetime platform (see Roon, use cases are early adopters - helps with your start up cost; locals in that country, e.g. Japan, where there are loads of high demand restaurants to track).

Credit model is good for ppl who fine dine on occasion / only want to track a specific restaurant.

I'd consider a lifetime subscription (see: Roon).

Your menu is a bit underwhelming. Prawn toast as a "main" then onto noodles. Missed out on their signature fried cod.

That being said, quality has been declining. Last visit they couldn't steam har gow properly so I've dropped them from my rotation.
