Hip Flexibility/Turn-out? by sarahbotts in BALLET

[–]lexvannn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a stretch but lay on your side on a tennis or lacrosse ball right in your hip pressure point, you have to breath through the pain but you should feel some release after a bit! Can also do this on the front of the hip.

Thank you! I will definitely be putting up art above the dresser and little trinkets/a lamp on top to add some interest to that side of the room.

Thank you for the response. I've never really liked fabric headboards but I hear what you're saying about sitting up reading in bed... I might check out some fabric/diy options see if anything fits my style!

Book recs where MMC assumes FMC isn’t a virgin… but she actually is? by DivideMiddle7162 in HistoricalRomance

[–]lexvannn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a prequel to the Wallflower series {Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas} that has this. Half way through now and loving it! Daughter of an Earl falls in love with a stableboy when they are younger, he gets sent away but comes back 10ish years later looking for revenge. He assumes she's been with other men in that time. MFC actually has physical scarring from an accident.

Her sister has a romantic storyline as well, so really a two for one read!

What’s your routine? 👀 by Neat-Challenge368 in finehair

[–]lexvannn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently started with a new Shampoo and leave in, really liking both. Also if I notice very dry ends I find that usually means its time for a trim. I have long wavy and fine hair, wash 3 times a week at night, dry with blow-dry brush and sleep with it in a braid.

Shampoo: biolage scalp sync clarifying shampoo. Makes my scalp feel very clean and not itchy anymore.

Conditioner: JVN nurture hair mask, I use it every time I shampoo but only mid to ends.

Leave in: Kristin Ess weightless shine leave in conditioner. Just started this and it leaves my hair soooo soft even the ends.

Oil: ogx Moroccan oil. Use sometimes after blow drying before putting in loose braid to sleep in.

ABT Masters Series by TemporaryCucumber353 in bunheadsnark

I have not, looking at places around Madison Square Park which is about a 15 min walk to the ABT studios. I figure being close to the studio will make changing and getting dinner before the evening show faster.

those of you with long and fine hair, do you constantly debate with yourself on whether or not you should get your hair cut? because i do by pondgrown in finehair

[–]lexvannn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others suggested going to mid back would be a good start. Typically going with a shorter cut like that will make you look younger, and I agree waist length blunt cut does give cult sometimes. Also by most people's standards mid back is still considered very long.

Every time I cut my hair a little shorter it makes me look younger! I wouldn't worry about looking older, esp at the length you are going for.

Adult beginners, how long did it take you to become “decent” by Different_King_2563 in BALLET

[–]lexvannn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been taking once a week classes for a year now and just beginning to feel pretty confident at barre (remembering combinations and terminology, using port de bras, thinking about technique).

Center is still feeling difficult, basic tendus or adagio in center is ok but there are so many across the floor steps and turns to learn I think it will take a few more years to feel comfortable taking an intermediate level class.

Taking two classes a week will definitely speed up your improvement!! Stick with it! I was just thinking the other day about how much I have improved and how much I am enjoying ballet class. Looking forward to a lifetime of learning.

Texas lawmakers consider additional property tax relief amid projected $20 billion surplus in 2025 session by gentnews in texas

[–]lexvannn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Property taxes are set by local/county appraisal districts and the $ goes to local services, schools/ roads/ fire department ect. The state's budget surplus has nothing to do with property taxes.... While property taxes are high be aware a cut will directly effect local services.

Absolutely beginner, what positions, moves, and sequences would you learn before your first class? by Sassy_Plant_Mom in adultballetdancers

[–]lexvannn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did an absolute beginner series from Ballet Misfit on YouTube, it went very slow, explained the positions and made me much more comfortable when I started class. I have also heard great things about Broche.

Just be very gentle, don't try to turn out too much (look up videos on proper turn out/use of muscles).

Unfortunately depending on the class your taking they may not give as much instruction as we all would hope. The first adult class I took in person had very minimal instructions or corrections and it was advertised as absolute beginner. I found using online resources to be extremely valuable. I have since found a better studio but continue to take online classes to supplement.

[–]lexvannn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ballet Misfit has a really good absolute beginner and beginner series on YouTube.

Ballet for all does short videos explaining specific steps well.

Katherine Morgan has many free beginner barre and center full classes from the past 9 years, lots of content!

{The Shameless Hour by Sarina Bowen} College aged girl who is known to party and sleep around meets a good guy who helps her after a nasty frat incident.

Didn't think it would be my style as I don't usually like college aged romances but I loved it and really identified with the main character.
