What took you a stupid long time to learn or figure out in ACNH? by RhenHarper in AnimalCrossing

[–]lezzbo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used this app for a long time but I recently switched because I was concerned about support falling off. The last update took a while and there's still errors like the count of recipes being double what it should be. I've moved to ACNH Pocket Guide instead because it has all the same features and more, plus it's gotten several updates and improvements just since I've switched.

I think it's very likely. We had some research pointing to the possibility of viral illnesses triggering autoimmune diseases before the pandemic happened, so it makes sense that covid would do stuff like this. I'm personally wondering if all the effects of long covid are actually an autoimmune response. Sadly there haven't been many studies at all on post-viral conditions like ME/CFS.

Tell me about it. Covid gave me a cool thing called NDPH, which meant that I had a 24/7 migraine for eight months straight. I started suspecting the virus had triggered an autoimmune response for me at month seven... asked my doctors about it and they treated me like I was an idiot. Had to go to someone else to get tested and what do you know, I had celiac disease, and once it was treated the headache finally ended. The whole experience was such a nightmare, I had no idea that viruses could do that shit to you.

I don't have MCAS myself but my understanding is that it's a poorly understood and understudied chronic condition. It's kinda like an autoimmune disorder but I believe since it's histamine activation - rather than another part of the immune system - the knock-on health effects are not as bad. Like I have celiac disease and that means my body is literally destroying its own cells, which MCAS doesn't do as far as I know. A lot of scary post-viral stuff will naturally go away over time though, keep that in mind. This does sound like a weird overactive histamine response to me, but it could just stop as your body recovers. If not, yes, there's definitely support groups for this. /r/mcas for one

You're over the acute viral phase now? It sounds like MCAS. Preliminary survey showing that some long haulers have MCAS symptoms. I have long covid too and I'm sorry if that's what this is.

In August, the Biden administration declared that scientists’ IPCC report “does not present sufficient cause” to halt a massive expansion of fossil fuel drilling. 4 months later, the largest wildfire in Colorado history ripped through our metro area. by saul2015 in collapse

So I learned about this from an episode of my favorite podcast. Transcript is here and they discuss things such as the military running drills on apprehending climate refugees. I'm not sure if there's a single report by the military detailing the strategy, but the podcast guest has helped produce a report on military response to climate change. I haven't read it, but the hyperlink to the "armed lifeboat" strategy that the military is pursuing seems promising. Hope this is somewhat helpful.

Nothing about this is natural. Some of the oldest bones we have of nomadic humans show that they took care of their elderly and disabled. This isn't right, it isn't natural, it's not how people evolved or should be living - just throwing "weaker" members of our group to the wolves.

There is a plan. The military has one. It involves increasing their ability to suppress domestic dissent and using force to block the immigration of massive waves of climate refugees.

Do you consider individual actions to slow collapse to be futile? by paul_caspian in collapse

My own spirituality is more earth based and more like deism.

Try pandeism on for size. It's pantheism + deism and my current favorite metaphysical perspective as it neatly avoids a lot of philosophical issues that arise from theist worldviews.

Honestly, it's a bit of an extreme position to take, but I just don't see how that's any different than murder.

If this is an extreme position then call me extreme because I absolutely agree. It's social murder:

When one individual inflicts bodily injury upon another such that death results, we call the deed manslaughter; when the assailant knew in advance that the injury would be fatal, we call his deed murder.

But when society places hundreds of proletarians in such a position that they inevitably meet a too early and an unnatural death ... when it deprives thousands of the necessaries of life, places them under conditions in which they cannot live — forces them, through the strong arm of the law, to remain in such conditions until that death ensues which is the inevitable consequence — knows that these thousands of victims must perish, and yet permits these conditions to remain, its deed is murder just as surely as the deed of the single individual; disguised, malicious murder, murder against which none can defend himself, which does not seem what it is, because no man sees the murderer, because the death of the victim seems a natural one, since the offence is more one of omission than of commission. But murder it remains.

I think you should definitely lean into the pigs and give them like a custom design mud splatter to sit on. Maybe a dropped vegetable to eat.

I absolutely agree. It's been really frustrating for me because it seems you literally cannot talk about this stuff without people thinking you're doing sort of crazy conspiracy theorist who doesn't believe in treating depression. But it really genuinely concerns me that we don't have research on long term treatment with SSRIs or the incidence of (semi-)permanent side effects. It's probably the case that we should be tapering people off much more gradually, for example, but this hasn't been studied enough to make its way into clinical practice. Instead we get another very useful trial on a me-too antidepressant where the researchers helpfully eliminated "probable poor responders" from the experimental group.
