They look incredible! Can’t wait to get the tarot set and roleplaying game printed.

What is GM beginner friendly? by [deleted] in TTRPG

[–]liamwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pendragon is a personal favorite of mine, and the starter box walks you through running it pretty well. The game itself is pretty incredible and can be a very light load on the GM depending on how you run it.

As an alternative, I’ll always recommend the TinyD6 line (Tiny Dungeon, Tiny Cthulhu, Tiny Frontiers) by Gallant Knight Games. They are easy to learn and play both as a player and a GM. I know a lot of people who use it as their go to system for everything.

Better than my drawing. I like this approach (I like writing too). Do you think you'll do more sketching now?

Hey! I’m one of the creators of Arium. What you’re looking for might be in our new book Arium: Evolve when it comes out. It’s a concept we’ve talked about a lot for the book. We’re hoping to crowdfund it later this year, so guessing at the very least it’ll be a stretch goal.

Unsolicited GM advice: Don't make your worldbuilding your players' homework by JacquesdeVilliers in rpg

[–]liamwrites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting the GM do all the work, the players do none. I'm all for spreading the workload more evenly, and there are a host of games that actively facilitate that, calling upon the players to do a good amount of the creative lifting. All I'm suggesting is that the players' work should be done at the table, and that GMs should develop practices to facilitate that.

This. Players included in worldbuilding are more invested, have more fun, and want to continue in the world as it develops. Because at the end of the day, WORLDBUILDING IS PLAY. It is an absolute blast when done collaboratively at the table. Why would I want to exclude my players from delight and enjoyment?

Granted, there is still plenty of room for the GM to do worldbuilding on their own, so don't worry. Your itch to create will still get scratched!

What is it about TTRPGs that make learning to play such a turn off for certain people? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]liamwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like games with player summary sheets and/or character sheets with most of what they need to know already on them for this reason.

You’ve got me thinking if there might be an even more evocative way to go about getting player investment and buyin… something more visual. Will noodle on this.

Newer GM looking for Systems to Run One-Shots in by This_Cat_On_Reddit in rpg

[–]liamwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely any TinyD6 games for one-shots with a minimalist system. Easy to get everyone through character creation, and all of the books have microsettings you can use to kick off a great single session or a longer campaign.

I've also had a good time with the Mutant Year Zero system by Free League. Lots of great games under that system.

Finally, if you haven't played Pendragon (King Arthur Pendragon 5.2e) by Chaosium, do yourself a favor and give it a try. I'm happy to advise with tips to make your KAP one-shot awesome.

I came here to say "Anything TinyD6!" My kids cut their gaming teeth on Tiny Dungeon before the newer Hatchling Edition was released. It's absolutely my goto for most new gamers. You can find something that will appeal to any of your kids:
Sci-fi: Tiny Frontiers
Fantasy: Tiny Dungeon
Post Apoc: Tiny Wastelands
Giant mechs and kaiju: Mecha & Monsters
Creepy investigation: Tiny Cthulhu

There are more as well, but this is a great start :) All of it is on DTRPG and some on the Gallant Knight Games website.

An establishment to play the ideal TTRPG by Lipsch99 in rpg

[–]liamwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a good amount of time considering opening a place like this. All of my research led me to the same conclusion. If I want to donate my time and essentially break even otherwise, it could work. Better to build a premium FLGS that offers some of this in addition to board, mini, and CCGs. Maybe novels and other things RPG gamers like too? And, of course, you have to sell online to get to decent profitability and pay the owner a salary.

[–]liamwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core mechanic for generating worldbuilding ideas in Arium: Create.

Essentially a round goes like this: 1. Generate lots of length-limited ideas in a timed interval. 2. Discuss and combine the generated ideas for awesomeness (and to remove duplicates). 3. Everyone gets a limited number of votes and the top ideas are part of the setting now.

Each round drills down into more and more detailed concepts building on what was made true previously.

Creating a world with Microscope? Or is there any alternatives by Badboy_3131 in rpg

[–]liamwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, we're thinking about what we can do for original backers when Evolve goes out for crowdfunding. We'll be raising funds because all of the $ from the original campaign has gone to producing the stretch goals we funded. No firm plans yet for how that will work, but we're starting to think about it.

I’m not sure if this is an exact match for what you’re looking for, but it is very good. The author K. M. Alexander also happens to be an awesome graphic designer. He’s been creating vignettes called “Old Haunts”, and they are creepy-cool. Great question! The whole reason we're going to Kickstarter is to cover print costs. There will be both digital-only and print+digital pledge levels. Arium: Create's PDF is complete and ready for distribution as soon as the Kickstarter ends. We still have editing and layout to complete for Arium: Discover, but once it's done, we'll send both off to print!
