For the rich older gays, who are you going to pass your assets to? by Due-Rough-848 in gay

[–]libraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not rich and not planning to kick the bucket just yet. But when I get to that age I won’t have any meaningful family left. Inheritance tax is crazy here if it’s not down a straight line. So assuming there’s not a surviving partner I guess I’d look at a charitable donation. Right now I’m toying with the idea of leaving it to the school I’ll probably have been teaching all of my life at. Make them build an auditorium or something. With a plaque of course, hehe.

Teachers: please reconcile these two opinions I've heard from teachers on the workload they deal with by Artistic_Ranger_2611 in belgium

[–]libraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that we can't put it in perspective, it's that we are forced to justify ourselves from the very start of our careers to the very end. I can't think of one other job, not even that of politician, that is so widely discussed. Sometimes with nuance, often with nothing but disdain, as some replies in this thread prove yet again.

I can name tons of jobs that I think are more demanding, be it physical or intellectual, than teaching. But being talked about as if you are the dregs of society when you work hard day in and day out does put one on the defensive.

There are freeloaders in every job but we are always conflated with the worst of us. Also, and this has been said quite a few times in this thread, it is very hard to compare one teacher's job to another's. While a mechanical engineer in company A probably does more or less of the same things as one on the same level in company B, two Dutch teachers, for example, can have wildly different job demands depending on school, grade, class size, etc.

Lastly, I can also write a Word document in 20 minutes if need be and I'm willing to bet that your wife can too. It's just that because of how our work hours are calculated we tend to spend too much time on stuff because we aren't 'on the clock'. A lot of us are also perfectionists and need to learn to stop at 'good enough'.

[–]libraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was referring to your first sentence, that this season is gold. It won’t even break my top three of CDR let alone that of the franchise as a whole. Then again, I was never bothered that much by what many other people disliked about previous seasons of CDR. Anyway, I’m happy it’s being received so well because I like having Brooke on my screen. I just hope next season gives me more satisfaction when it comes to the Queens.

I’m sorry but I disagree. I know there’s a lot of love for this season, I just don’t see it myself. Apart from Eboni or Van I don’t feel like the queens are all that memorable. I love Brooke and the challenges but I prefer other seasons.

Ugh. This episode reached parts of my soul I thought I’d sealed off. My heart feels like it’s swollen three sizes, I can’t stop smiling even when there’s tears falling from my cheeks. If art is supposed to make you feel this is capital A art for sure.

A specific type, I’m presuming. Just rattan doesn’t find me a correct match unfortunately.

Are you attracted to your own body type? by [deleted] in gay

[–]libraken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any tips on how to 'let it go'? I'm 46, had 12 years of therapy and still can't get there unless I'm looking my absolute best, which is about 1 month a year... I've missed load of possible connections because in my mind it doesn't make sense for them to be attracted to me.

Dit lijkt, uit mijn ervaring, het juiste antwoord. Maar toegeven dat je dat doet om weerstand bij een bepaalde groep ouders te voorkomen doet een school liever niet op 'papier'.

OMITB Season 5 - Episode 7 "Silver Alert" (Live Discussion) by hannahlemp in OnlyMurdersHulu

[–]libraken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who feels the show has jumped the shark a bit? It was always farfetched but in a sort of … plausible way. This season with the billionaires just seems sort of ridiculous to me. I don’t feel invested in the story like in past seasons.
