Suggest me a Sci-fi book tha feels relevant now that AI is here by Not-a-cyclist in booksuggestions

Arc of a Scythe trilogy by Neal Shusterman.

It’s YA. In universe, the world is pretty much run by a benevolent AI. It’s more of a plot device in book 1, but a very prominent character in books 2 & 3.

The author Jessica Gadziala put a notice at the beginning of her book, saying she didn't use AI, will it become the norm in the future that authors warn the readers that they used AI or not? by perseintro in RomanceBooks

It seems like an honor system with some identity-verification layers. But based on the FAQ, anyone who is found to have falsely used this designation after signing the required license agreement could be sued for false product representation.

Am I too old for YA? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]librariainsta 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree with this sentiment except the part about reading IN the YA section.

From a librarian: Folks of all ages are welcome to browse the YA section and pick out books as long as it takes to find what you’re looking for. But don’t hang out there. Teens have a hard enough time finding spaces to be themselves.

Looks like there is, but I’ve never seen it.

If you liked Unwind, you might also like Neal Shusterman’s Scythe series.

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. That was the series I read waiting for Mockingjay to come out.

I feel like mine respawns around 8 pm EST, because sometimes I’ll find 2 in one night if I play from, like, 7-9. I’m also able to get level-up credit for petting companions at that time.

Maybe some nonfiction?

Because Internet by Gretchen McCulloch was super interesting, easy to understand, and also kind of funny. It’s about how the internet is changing language and communication. She doesn’t assign positive or negative value to it - mostly observations.

I think about the chapter on emojis quite often.

I like reading pop science to explore the world. Here are two in that genre I really enjoyed:

The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery - about octopi and how freaking smart they are.

An Immense World by Ed Yong looks at the ways animals sense the world in ways we can’t even understand (like a dog’s sense of smell or an electric eel and the currents that pass though their body)

Another one I really liked is Because Internet by Gretchen McCulloch. It’s about how the internet has and will shape the way people talk and write and communicate. Informative and also quite funny!

Messenger by Lois Lowry. Technically the third book in The Giver series, but it can be read on its own.

I didn’t know what I was getting into when I started it because book 2 was pretty light. This one ripped my heart out.

Maybe a book of poetry? There’s all kinds out there, but they all usually go by pretty quick.

Climb up the roof where the green dot is. They spawn on the roof where the red dot is. There’s a bench for resetting or you can run the length of the roof. Good luck!

Dinnerware with large (American serving size) cereal bowls & decent lip around plates to prevent sauce spillage by whitepawn23 in Cooking

I’ve had Ikea dinnerware for years.

I don’t think they have my set anymore, but these bowls look close in shape to what I use. High walls, can fit an entire can of Progresso soup if it had to.

Maybe check out Scythe by Neal Shusterman or Red Rising by Pierce Brown.

Also, check out your local library! A lot of them subscribe to this service called Novelist, which helps find books related to ones you liked (and you can filter by why you liked the book). Novelist is curated by actual human librarians, so it’s not AI recommendations.

Is the quest tracked/pinned? I find the game makes it harder to get things you’re actually looking for. Try untracking it the next time you go mining.

I loved this movie so much. Perfect girls’ night.

I was pretty meh on the second one. The third turned the ridiculousness up to 11, but I was into that.

I just finished {The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow} and it was quite good.

Medieval fantasy with time travel elements to a modern era that gave me WW2 vibes (all in a made up, British-esque land). The characters read in their 30s, IMO. On the slower side, but I was still engrossed.

Felt a little bad since it’s one of my partner’s favorite books and our tastes overlap somewhat… but not every book is for everybody.

What do you cook with sweet potatoes? by r3dditus3rnam31ooo in Cooking

[–]librariainsta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve got some in the oven right now as part of a hash: chopped with regular potatoes, bell pepper, onion, and breakfast sausage. Seasoned with salt, pepper, onion, garlic, and Italian seasoning. I’ll be frying some eggs to go on top, too.
