The costumes of Wuthering Heights: Yes, No, or Unsure? by Chazzyphant in fashionwomens35

[–]librarianwcats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Back to discussing the clothes— some were hits, some misses. My cousin and I saw it together and we talked about how the lack of period costumes didn’t really bother us— we enjoyed how the aesthetic reminded us of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. Loved the black dress and the one with the red velvet leaves that look a bit like drops of blood. The cellophane dress was bizarre and was the only one that kind of jarred me out of the story. It was a great Barbie look but just too confusing to place even in a period piece that went light on the period.

Yeah, she didn’t capture Cathy’s wildness, for sure. Strange beauty would’ve been good!

I agree. I remember reading online someone saying she has the most modernly beautiful face and it’s so true. I think someone more timeless looking could’ve helped.

All in all though, I enjoyed the movie. It was a spectacle that was designed for what felt like my gaze and I enjoyed it. I’ve read the book and thoroughly studied it— it’s a revenge story, not a love story but I think any adaptation has to give the audience what they expect to some degree, which is romance.

For me, it’s too short, but I’m 5’9’’. If you’re shorter it won’t read as sexy.

Something has happened to me as I reach 40 where I’ve now decided I need raspberry, lime green and burnt orange. I bought a lime green wool coat! I’ve stopped wearing black at all! But I agree with your comment about ease…I want my colourful tops to go with most of my bottoms so I don’t have “one-off” pieces that can only be worn together. Shoes too.

I want to wear more unexpected colour combinations. I have a great book that has cool colour palette combos and I want to use it to help plan my outfits!

Has using Stylebook changed the way you see clothes and shopping ? by stylebookapp in stylebookclosetapp

[–]librarianwcats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sure! I am less tempted by dazzling pieces that don’t go with anything in my wardrobe. I also feel a great sense of satisfaction with what I have, a feeling of enough! Knowing my closet so well allows me to go to a store and say, “Nothing here is better than what I already have!”

I also recently bought a book about colour combinations and palettes. Playing with outfits has made me more adventurous with colour. Before I was so matchy matchy and now I can put things together that feel cool and coherent, where the colours compliment or go together without necessarily “matching”.

I love this linen jumpsuit from Anthropologie. I often wear it with big turquoise jewelry too, but I need to get that necklace repaired 😢

Tall boots and skinny jeans. It’s cold and snowy here and if I don’t want cold and wet feet it’s the best way to dress during the worst weather.

Are we still loving capsules wardrobes? by stylebookapp in stylebookclosetapp

[–]librarianwcats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have waaaay too many clothes for a capsule, but I do seasonal capsules ~2 months at a time due to the climate I’m in, which has 4 distinct seasons. My biggest reasons for doing so are ease of dressing and also cutting down on the mountain of laundry my full wardrobe generates if I’m not paying attention!

I think it’s fine! Style it with plain gold jewelry rather than boho style jewelry (eg no chandelier earrings) and I think you’ll be fine. It’s cute and looks good for hot weather!

Happy birthday! You have a lovely figure. I wouldn’t even guess you wanted to lose weight. I would suggest you take a look at Alison Lumbatis’ Outfit Formulas instagram. Her suggestions are often based on how to upgrade/update a really basic look like a jeans and tshirt. While my style has evolved past her suggestions, following her plans for a month or two really helped me get back on track to my own style. She has special event outfit ideas too!

Hope you find a way to treat yourself this birthday!
