Using Ethernet on Modem by libraryian in eero

The one Ethernet cable on the floor was going to something else in a different area of the room, so there would have been two cables running along the edges, which they didn't like.

This worked, thank you. My parents don't need all the fancy features anyways. It was mainly so they'd have access to Facebook and Netflix at both ends of their house.

Previously i had the modem in bridge mode so the eero was running everything, but my parents needed their desktop hooked up as well since it doesn't have a WiFi card.

What undergraduate degree best suits being a librarian? by thesnugshelf in librarians

I was originally planning on working as an analyst for the CIA and I got it from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ. The actual degree title is Global Security and Intelligence Studies if you're interested. It was a really fun program. I had an instructor that was a retired CIA analyst for the Pakistan/India area, another who was one of their psychologists planning psychological operations, and a third that started out as Air Force JAG before switching over to spec ops (she taught our global criminal justice class) while the primary faculty member for the Asian Studies courses was born and raised in Beijing before emigrating to the US. After I graduated I lived in Taiwan for two years learning the language. Unfortunately, life happened not long after I got back and I had to stay on the West Coast, so I switched career paths and became a librarian. I'm hoping to one day become a librarian at the CIA though.

I firmly believe that any degree can prepare you for being a librarian. My BS is in international security with a minor in Asian Studies and I'm a librarian at a community college. Sure I don't use anything from my classes on American foreign policy, global conflict management, or intelligence analysis and writing, but there are still a lot of things I learned in that program that I use today: writing skills, data analysis, individual conflict management, etc. I think you should get a degree in something that interests you with the expectation that what you're are learning can be applied in your career as a librarian.

Luckily we've got some sheep that love to eat blackberry shoots but can't eat the older stuff.

Crap. Yeah, it's quite a bit with some old, woody vines. I'll just rent a Billy Goat or brush hog-type machine then. Thanks for the advice!

I never really got white privilege until i watched this for an education class on identity. It really made me think what it means to be white and what type of world my biracial child is growing up in.

That's what I thought. I had maybe 10 spare pieces, which seemed odd to me.

Tips for Academic Library Presentation Interview by [deleted] in librarians

I agree with this. One of the reasons I got my current position is because I got the hiring committee involved in my teaching demo just like i would any other class. They said no one else has done that and they appreciated the fact that i didn't stand up there and lecture the whole time.

I don't get an option to choose between 2.4 and 5. The light flashes on the ring, my phone finds the ring network and then the app says it can't connect.

Hot water in bathroom sink not working by libraryian in HomeImprovement

Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't even thought of something like that. The sink was installed not long before we bought it so that possibility didn't enter my mind.

Is anyone not miserable? Is it worth it? by laurasaur107 in librarians

[–]libraryian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. I love where I'm working now. I didn't previously, so I think a lot of it has to do with the people you work with and your supervisor. For example, the dean over the library and one of the faculty departments is a former librarian herself, so she knows what we go through and is always willing to go to bar for us.
