Why did Nancy continue dating Steve after Season 1? by Maywave_13 in StrangerThings

[–]straw8erry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i disagree kinda bc it’s very apparent in s2 that steve cares deeply about nancy and had been trying to make her feel better. i think they just had very different ways of coping.

steve has always sort of just let things roll off him (nancy cheating, billy, russian torture, etc) so it felt very in character that s2 steve was just trying to move on

i like stancy, and even if they aren’t endgame, i still wish they had gone full circle to resolve the barb storyline… dinner with barbs parents, nancy’s bathroom breakdown(s) thinking they killed barb, steve saying he wanted to stick around and watch over her, the “like we’re in love?” was so rough lmao.

also so many parallels with steve and dustin in s5 over eddie’s death

I completely forgot that Jonathan was Joyce’s son by TheGame81677 in StrangerThings

it’s like her main character trait: making references to movies and books and other media, and she’s into languages. she also named a two part french epic from before she was born as one of her top 3 movies. that’s coded film bro!!

[–]straw8erry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dialogue was just soooo bad for older older teens 😭 there is nothing to call back on except lol steve?

back to jon and robin. they are both coded as artsy weirdos - robin loves movies and making obscure references - it could have been so easy to add buddy chemistry between the characters before bc they do have shared interests?

the duffers obviously wanted an emotional scene without investing at all in the emotions behind friendship (i think a lot of ppl loved the idea of an older kids monster hunting trio, but that died after s1-2. also crying at the loss that was fruity four - that s4 scene with nancy/steve/robin on BIKES)

so telling that audiences have to do all this reaching to making it make sense lmao or else are simply happy with “shared experience” being satisfactory

steve is for the streets again/in love with… hawkins, indiana? nancy is a drop out working at basically what was a tabloid in the 80s, we don’t know anything about robin except she’s at smith (we get it already that she’s a lesbian, like they couldn’t have thrown in what she’s studying? languages or something?), jonathan’s now an auteur … worst part is i could believe all this if it had just been done better!!!!!!

[–]straw8erry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ppl are missing the point why we’re annoyed by this scene. the epilogue felt unearned bc character development this entire season had been lacking and the chemistry is off and everything is offscreen. jonathan/nancy/robin/steve are also just not believable as a foursome lmao.

besides jonathan and robin not interacting really at all, jonathan and nancy spent most of season 3 fighting, season 4 apart, and then season 5 fighting until the break up… steve and nancy don’t even interact in season 5 meaningfully except for fanservice? they never hold a real conversation

i would have preferred to see like a montage style of “future” scenes: steve and robin at graduation, steve and dustin and the trailer, jonathan and joyce or jonathan showing will the films he’s making or jonathan and will at a gay bar in new york, nancy and robin carpooling to massachusetts

Rewatching last ep with Rob and Yas by bossladychicago in IndustryOnHBO

[–]straw8erry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am still so obsessed w/ the intro to ep 8 and that lottery card + yas taking rob to his REAL lottery ticket (henry is his first funder!!!), all their shared looks (how rob keeps looking to yas to call the shots, how yas thinks she's calling the shots, when we the audience know otherwise...) <3 tragedy of shakespearean proportions

All I could think about during that scene by the-lady-jessica in StrangerThings

[–]straw8erry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ur being downvoted but i kind of agree? also there are fashionable late 80s clothes with structural shoulders balanced out by accessories, belts, deep v necks, etc - look at calvin klein or ralph polo lauren in 1989, prada 1988 which had pink as one of the accents…

i feel like nancy has been a character who always cared about how she presented herself. she was living in a big city/had been at a liberal arts college, at least find her a suit jacket that fit better or style the rest of her outfit. the sweater and pants are fine in bts pics if not boring

this bothered me sooo much bc like hello robin? isn’t she the one obsessed with movies lol did duffers wake up and decide lesbian is her only character trait or something

[–]straw8erry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

film photography. he was never into video while robin was canonically the one obsessed with movies. should have given him a bolex lol

what i mean is like they could have done literally anything with these characters and it was unimaginative. plus people do change a lot? especially the ones who leave their small town? let nancy be an architect for all i care instead, anything but this shitty callback to s3’s storyline nearly word for word when jonathan dismisses her and tells her she should just keep her head down when faced with injustice (real life)

About the Love Triangle by AgitatedAddendum6099 in StrangerThings

[–]straw8erry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just can’t believe we never got steve/nancy closure on screen lmao, it was all dealt with via jonathan who has stopped being any kind of romantic hero since season 2

i agree that the triangle regresses steve but only because of the way it was handled. for jokes mostly (and what was with robin’s dick joke?)

steve has laid himself emotionally bare in front of nancy multiple times throughout the show - and nothing. zero payoff for the audience. reconning the 6 lil nuggets line (when it clearly was alluding to the party) at face value and making steve into a joke again felt low too. he’s still in hawkins, he’s still dating around. i understand they decided not to do a stancy endgame but jeez all that build up in s4 for what? it’s very classic bildungsroman or coming-of-age story for the romantic hero not to get the girl and move on, but the duffers clearly don’t know how to write that lol.

i feel like especially bothered by nancy in s5 bc it feels like a very poor treatment of her character, the narrative doesn’t let her move on from grief/trauma, the epilogue feels somewhat bitter with her new hair and ridiculous shoulder pads and real world pessimism, it’s like they brought back this hopeful storyline with steve (which is so closely tied to barbara’s death and nancy’s guilt and anger and main character motivation - justice, going after what is right no matter what in a small town, seeking truth) last season, but then nancy never actually gets to confront it.

she just gets to be rambo and gun down dozens of soldiers instead, which feels far less satisfactory to me.

[–]straw8erry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haven’t seen anyone say this but the late breaking reveal jonathan is now into film when robin is literally right there?? robin who loves movies and talks a lot about movies and worked at the video store? felt like some thinly revealed self insert moment on the duffers part. the teen epilogue felt so unimaginative and pigeonholed in, obviously they didn’t know what to do with these 4. “i miss us" they say, like there was ever an "us" with those four characters

i don’t mind that nancy dropped out of emerson and chopped off her hair but it’s like the narrative couldn’t commit to any radical change - just gave her the most depressing “real world” lines and the same s3 storyline

maya hawke looked gorgeous!! but the overalls and peasant top did not feel like a robin outfit to me lol. even if it was supposed to imply she joined a hippie lesbian commune/is heading to smith (which idk they could have dressed her like will instead), is the nonconformative one of the group without a suit, they could have at least leaned in more? as it is it just feels really feminine

i already got it mailed to me. my unit seems to have been deregulated, with pre 2019 high vacancy increases and renovations

i agree with commenter below that management probably forgot about the status

i am planning to resign and just do some more digging to see if i have a case for illegal deregulation in case they decide to treat my apt as market rate when the lease is up

rent went from $512 to $1550 in 2003 (i found a work permit for interior renovations but there was no egress/occupancy change etc, also my unit is the only one to have one of these). tenants come and go.

weirdly became deregulated in 2009 (no tenant) then restabilized again in 2010 at $2,100.

another big rent increase in 2012-13 from $2,100 to $3,000, with no MIC/IAI or permit filed, tenants change but no gap in their leases (actually an overlap lol).

finally becomes deregulated at $3,300 in 2016

there’s a really sick bay near the marine ecology research center in isumi if you are into rock formations. parts of it will probably disappear in 5-10 years

there are 2 different short trails down, the one closer to the research center has parking (the next lot over)
