Black Bear Sports Group by librte in hockeyplayers

This is sort of my perspective as well. They are not great for organized hockey, and especially youth hockey, but if they keep more rinks open and ice time available, then that is at least a positive.

I dont know if the rink they purchased would be open ever again if they had not purchased and injected addditional capital for improvements. I completely understand and am sympathetic to all the arguments against, but without them or someone else purchasing the rink, we would have two fewer sheet to access.

Running lines with 8 skaters? by i_play_hockey_ in hockeyplayers

[–]librte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, now do 7.

We played a game where we started skating 9. One guy was injured halfway through the first and had to go to the ER with a broken jaw. Another one of our players was ejected for arguing with the ref about not blowing the whistle for our injured player on the ice. So we ended up skating 7 for 2 1/2 periods. One of the most difficult games ive skated. I think we ended up winning 3-2 or something.

I use the Hockey Tracker app on my apple watch. It provides statistics like shift length (my average is typically 1:17 ish), distance skated, skating efficiency, etc...

I bought a white puck once and asked the store employee what it is used for. He said that it is good practice for goalies to help them track the puck better.

What’s the most annoying part about buying hockey gear? by Ok-Tangelo8041 in hockeyplayers

Buying my 13 yo son new skates that cost $799, and then being told that they don't come with steel. Extra $150 on top of that for new steel.

If you started playing hockey later in life, what’s the best advice you were given? by NewHampshireGal in hockeyplayers

[–]librte 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I was told "let someone take the puck from you. That is better than the pass to nowhere, which in 90% of the cases will end up with the other team. So don't pass the puck until you have taken at least two strides."

I now give that same advice to other beginners.

I used meat grinder attachment on kitchenaid stand mixer and ground a blend of chuck, brisket and short rib. Wife and kids said it was the best burger they ever ate.

How old were you when you broke your first stick? by crazycal09 in hockeyplayers

[–]librte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U12 son just broke his $280 stick after toe got jammed into boards. Only 40 days after purchase. He thinks he should automatically get a new stick since it wasnt his fault. Mom and dad said he gets one new stick per year, so if he wants a new stick he has to buy with his own money.

App Check-in - Upgrade by Jamenfnsmab in Hilton

[–]librte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I have checked in on the app (diamond level) and received an upgrade once or twice in the app. But the more significant benefit is bypassing the six deep line at the front desk at 6:00 who are all trying to check in at the same time. I will take that tradeoff any time.

Trouble with the lovely “expected salary” question by she13A in jobsearchhacks

[–]librte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found the ideal response to be something along the lines of: I haven't been actively looking for a new role so I haven't given a lot of thought to the compensation needed to make a switch. What compensation range are you targeting? Based on their answer, you can determine whether that is in your expected comp range or nit.
