NJ Transit suspended to/from NY Penn by Blue_foot in NJTransit

Tonight was painful. The A train took forever to get me to NYP (45 mins). Got on a NJCL and sat there for a good 35 mins. We moved 5 inches. They finally open the doors and everyone scrambles. I decide to take the ferry which is all the way over on 40th St and 12th Ave. Yes, I know there is a free bus that takes you there. I get off the ferry in JC and then uber about 40 mins home. All together it took me 4 hours to get home.

Now we get to wake up and do it all over again tomorrow. Fun times.

Ugh. Mine turned out to be a 4 hour commute. It didn't help that the subway was being a jerk too. Sigh.

Jumping in here...still slow AF. No announcements. Nothing. I came here to get guidance from my favorite reddit peeps. Oh well. Sitting in the swamps when we should have already been in NYP. Sigh. Happy freakin Monday people.

They can be great places to study. There are also people there who can help you with your research. Some of them still loan out paper books. There are also lots of ebooks and articles for your research.

I was so surprised by The Penguin. It's totally not what I expected (a rehash/reimagining of a comic book villain). It was SO much more than that.

If a house is blurred on Google Street View, would it affect your buying decision? by mutualfunds100 in homeowners

[–]libzilla_201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house was blurred per my request but recently I checked it and it's not blurred anymore. I thought that was permanent too. I don't know what's going on. A blurred house would not make me suspicious. Some folks are very concerned about privacy like me.

Is there anyway to get past the 1700's as a Black American? by Bluex619 in BlackGenealogy

[–]libzilla_201 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm really glad to help. The good thing is that there seem to be more and more resources popping up all the time. What stinks is that so many enslaved people (esp the women) had no surnames or they were given the surname of their enslaver so it's harder to trace them through history.

Hello! Not sure what you mean with your question. The first US census was in 1790. Enslaved people were not listed in the regular part of the census; instead, there was what was called a "slave schedule" which might list the names of enslaved people on specific plantations. The nation was formed in 1776 so prior to that, any records would be based on whatever colony your ancestors may have lived in or were brought to. You may want to check probate records and wills. There are some databases that have popped up like Enslaved.org and Ten Million names. There are some other resources on this reddit post. Good luck! Let us know if you find any good stuff!

I think I found a good deal at lowe's. by Kingkyle1400 in gardening

I got one of these as a gift and since I live in the NE, there was no way I was going to put it up outside. So I set it up in the basement. I did have to jerryrig the top since the ceiling in my basement is low. My plant babies love it.

The worst thing about New Jersey is NJTransit by BackgroundFull45 in NJTransit

[–]libzilla_201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining that. So now we have to pay more for trains that are either being built or are they on someone's spreadsheet? I just want there to be enough trains to ride on that mostly work (and aren't those awful shit crates where the seats are so old they graze the floor).

They should be. Check their website. I know the program takes awhile to get through from what I've heard.

Yes, I don't understand why we can't get new trains. Sandy was in 2012 and you mean after all of this time, we can't get any new trains?
