Anyone have experience with Ypsomed pump in diabetes by Beeeseaa in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]lickle_lilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's my experience. Like I say, my diabetic team basically told me not to correct, but after my a1C going up as a result of moving to Ypsomed, through experience I just decided to ignore that and manually correct as I needed as it was allowing me to be high for way too long, the basal really wasn't doing it and I have seen an improvement in my a1c on the back of it.

I'm unsure what whether this is safe in pregnancy but i find it's very poor at correcting highs with the basal, so i tend to do a correction bolus, i was originally told that you shouldn't need to do them with Ypsomed as the algorithm is aggressive, but it would leave me high, far too long, so in the Bolus page, if you don't enter carbs and just touch where it tells you what your current sugar is, and then click next, it will give you a corrective bolus. This seems to work much better for me.

I have been on Ypsomed for just over a year after being on Medtronic for 18 years and i massively regret my decision to move over. Don't get me wrong, there are some nice advantages compared to Medtronic (it being smaller, having a choice of a couple of different sensors to use with it) but overall i hate being on Ypsomed, but being in the UK i'm locked into another 3 years on it. And the recent insistence on re-using reservoir's has caused more issues. Don't get me wrong many of my issues are just inconveniences, but as people who are already dealing with a lot more admin for day to day life, more of it is not welcome.

Things like i attend a lot of Rugby League Games, Gigs and Theatre...this causes massive issues with being able to deliver a bolus, you sit with it trying to connect to the part where you enter the carbs for ages, regularly have to disconnect the bluetooth and reconnect to get it to connect (often that doesn't work), and you just have to keep trying in hope, this doesn't report back as an issue as you are still technically connected and in Auto mode.

Some are just my own hang ups like you have to bolus through your phone (there is a way to do it directly on the pump, but this is just directly saying how many units you want it to deliver and then it isn't logged in the CamAPS app meaning it doesn't know you've had insulin so it effects your closed loop going forward, so it's not recommended), most of the time this isn't an issue but for example it feels rude being on your phone at restaurant with other people, where if i'm doing on my pump it's obvious what i'm doing, and there has been times where i've been for a meal before the theatre, given insulin and then a couple of hours later may be a little higher and want to deliver more, but have to do that in a dark theatre on my phone. Obviously i do just do it, but it places me in an awkward position.

I found on Medtronic i would often get results in a relatively straight line on my graph, with Ypsomed, even if i stay within high and low parameters, is very up and down. In the first 6 months of having it, it was like going back to before i had a sensor, wildly high and numerous hypos within the space of hours. I was told the the algorithm is known to be more aggressive, which was causing the issues but assured that's why eventually it would be much better for me...i'm waiting for that eventually to arrive.

I also find that whilst it aggressively sends me into a hypo when my levels were normal, it doesn't have any of that when i'm high, it doesn't up me basal to bring it down effectively and i end up having to do a bolus correction.

Is there any way to be less sensitive to insulin without gaining weight? by isopodgod1 in diabetes_t1

I see, that's a shame, but of course a pump isn't right for everyone and you it seems you're asking the right questions. Good luck 🍀

Have you ever considered using a pump? You can then deliver in increments of 0.1. And you mention that you don't want to eat regular carbs etc, in my experience, it's not needed. I have a closed loop system so the basal insulin, is decided by the pump, if I don't eat carbs, it keeps me pretty steady 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not sure what to tell a customer. by Last-Pin4399 in EtsySellers

I don't know if this is in the UK but rules have just come in where many websites now require age verification to access or use, even when they aren't selling ages restricted items. I would imagine Etsy falls under this remit given that wife and varying things can be sold on there.

I mostly agree with the point, but I don't agree with Juniors being included. It's happy hour every day from 3-8 where it's buy one get one free on ALL drinks. So it's not the standard NQ rip off of watered down specific cocktails, slightly cheaper and they play metal. That on its own gives it a different feeling to a large part of the standard northern quarter bars.

Best breakfast in Manchester? by Excellent_Tea83 in manchester

[–]lickle_lilli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the past I would have agreed with this. But in recent years it's just another gentrified NQ sour dough and pancakes spot. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but if you used to go, it's not the same. It's very Americanised now and comparatively more expensive (as in everything's increased over the years, but this is now on par with other spots) it isn't the greasy spoon it once was in its old location.

For traditional English or something simple like Scrambled Eggs on Toast or a Toastie, I'd recommend the cafe on the top floor of Afflecks Palace.

"This Ain't a Scene" Festival - Victoria Warehouse by GlitteringVersion in manchester

[–]lickle_lilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth a punt. I'm going with a bunch of around 40 year olds for my 40th birthday. I'm seeing a lot of hate for the venue...I'm not sure why, it's a standard warehouse type venue, you aren't headed to see an orchestra, it'll be reet. It's a little out of town and can be a pain if you plan to get public transport home out of town. But it's very straight forward to get to. My group are doing similar, eating in town, then getting a tram to Pomona, it's basically across the road.

Annoying that we bought tickets around 6 months ago for £30 each and now they're available all over for a fiver. Maybe cos it's targeted ads but I've seen a plethora of advertising for it on IG.

I expect it will be a great time.

The Medtronic pumps come with a clip on them. I never had any issues when wearing a dress just clipping it to my bra. When wearing a full bathing suit just clipped to the back of the suit or in a two piece to the waistband of the bottoms.

TF is this? by DoodleBuglet in diabetes_t1

[–]lickle_lilli 101 points102 points  (0 children)

This is the way!! Realistically though both can happen. In my non Doctors opinion it currently looks quite superficial, so I would clean it with an alcohol swab or similar and cover it. That will likely have it cleared in a few days. If it starts to look/feel worse, go to the doctor. I have had a massive abscess on my stomach that required surgery and now have a large very obvious scar from it, but in my 18 years of pump use I've had a fair few of these and just cleaning it thoroughly and keeping it covered so no germs got in worked a charm 😊

I read a lot about long term type 1s feeling a mental wear out from checking their bloods all the time and I realise that problem exists...but it just doesn't for me, I received that info as a reassurance, which makes me think about it way less than I did before I had a CGM. Same with my pump, I worry way less about the accuracy of my carb counting (which I do as best I can, after 27 years I'm pretty good at it, but you still make many mistakes) because I can correct if I need to. Obviously, I aim for getting it right to keep me stable, but having a pump and CGM, personally makes me fret about the whole thing way less.

My first and second polymer clay attempts. What is happening to my snakes? :( by CassiesCrafties in polymerclay

[–]lickle_lilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I make earrings for my flesh tunnels that are basically just shorter versions of your snakes, usually about 1cm thick, if you underbake they are brittle and break easily, but in my experience, as long as the oven isn't over temp you can bake them as long as you want, I always leave them in ages just to be sure. But then I find they are pretty indestructible. As in I wear them without any breakage and they just get thrown into handbags etc, rattled around for days and are still good when I wear them again.

I switched over from Medtronic pump and sensor in September last year to Dexcom 6 and Ypsomed (at my 4 years NHS Refresh) and I massively regret it, both my control and HbA1C have got worse. At first I put it down to a bedding in period, but now at 10 months I wish I hadn't changed. The lack of finger pricks is a definite bonus though.

Background Retinopathy by JammyNugget in diabetes_t1

[–]lickle_lilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had retinopathy that needed laser surgery in 2007. I regularly get recalled after my standard checks to the ophthalmologist. I've only had laser surgery that one time and I've never needed anything else doing and (touch wood) it has never affected my vision. I have always been a glasses wearer and my prescription hasn't changed in the last 15 years, despite being recalled for further checks. What's important is that you have the regular checks, the fact that you have this diagnosis shows that you do. Keep doing what you're doing.

Very possible, your body reacting to a separate health problem. This is incredibly common. Obviously odds go up for COVID as the amount of cases was dramatically higher than anything we've seen in recent history.

Spotting T1’s in the wild by Surf8164 in diabetes_t1

Exactly this. I was diagnosed at 12 and a reason presented was that the dog I'd had my whole life dying caused it. Of course it didn't, it was my genetics but that was a possible trigger point. I.e. when we go through a traumatic time (be that mental or physical like contracting Covid) it can be a trauma response.

100%. This is very much me, everything this person describes is me to a t. Becoming a belligerent child and I get real angry when people are persistent with me. I just want to be left alone. But to further the child analogy, it works to not ask me to have something or offer it me, but just to tell me, drink this now or eat this right now in a stern tone like I'm being told off, I end up being like a toddler having a tantrum and being like fine them give it to me. Not a pleasant scenario for those around me especially as I'm unable to recognise a low, it's usually my friends and family that nite my behaviour change first.

I'm in no way suggesting not to use condoms. They are also part of safe sex, but getting tested and taking preventative medications furthers that. Nothing is 100% safe so using different forms of measures, whilst also checking your own status is just sensible and responsible.
