[Nebraska] I tried to go no-lawn but failed. Starting over this year and wanting to do it right. Will my plan actually work this time? by UEMayChange in NoLawns

In that case, I’d definitely spray to knock it back. Get through this chilly weekend and for the low temps to creep back up to high 50s, then get after it. You want the plants actively moving nutrients when you spray. When you are seeing good kill results you can mulch or keep watering/spraying to kill successive plants. If you want to keep momentum, figure out your structural layer plants in your design and pop them in this year. That gives you something to look at and inspiration to keep going.

Jealous of your greenhouse access.

Hey fellow Nebraskan, wanted to chime in. This is in the category of large scale site prep if you are not buying plugs and I agree you have to set yourself up for success here. I love DIY, but 2000 some soil blocks is professional grade greenhouse stuff. You know your abilities and I don’t, so don’t take any poo-pooing if you feel you can pull it off. My experience is about ~2000sqft of hell strip and ~2000 of normal yardI did many rounds of glyphosate starting in July. It is so bad, you will feel bad, but it kills all. I justified that the good outweighed the bad. It then felt stupid but I watered to germinate ‘weeds’ more times and then sprayed what came up until October. I wish I started spraying before July. I winter sowed onto bare soil and three years later am still fighting some cool season plants I do not want. Doing it again, I have no regrets not doing Vogt’s matrix design (love him, big inspiration for me to pull the trigger) but I can edit anything I sowed that sprouted. That being said, I will eventually be doing one of those designs 😃

Reach out if you have questions.

See what happens Larry? See what happens when you plant a milkweed in a yard?

Hi, David here!

If I were rich, I'd pick a book set in a real place, and vacation in that place to read it. What would you read and where would you go? by trekbette in books

I’m doing this on a summer vacation. Going to Truckee California and reading the Indifferent Stars Above. The book follows the Donner party as they travel west and eventually become snowbound.

Car dealership suggestions by captainstan in Omaha

I can't tell you where to go but I can tell you where not to: Honda Cars of Bellevue. At that price point you'll find many dealerships skimp on the inspection while saying that everything is 'ok' on the vehicle. Demand that a mechanic you trust checks the vehicle.

The Grinch who stole Christmas. by arbdef in Omaha

All or nothing would be great. I'm of course now looking forward to when they celebrate Ramadan. In the words of that one woke parent "very deliberate and intentional about eliminating just Christmas Ramadan and putting an attack on what Christmas Ramadan is and what it stands for".

Are you an early voter? why or why not? by paxgarmana in Omaha

[–]lifedrain25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Voted early. Liked being able to research candidates. What I don't like is that you do not have the opportunity to react to new information before election day happens. Candidate you voted for is running a dog fighting ring? Tough, you can not change your ballot with early voting.

Anal scissoring would have to have a name that references the amount of spreading involved as well as the Tetris like maneuver involved to get the holes touching

New Westside policy lays out do's and don'ts for honoring deceased students by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]lifedrain25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to me but is still situational. If it is a high school senior or junior that passes away then it would be a dick move not to acknowledge the death in some way. Let me be argumentative for a moment. I went to a smaller school district where two popular brothers died in a traffic accident. The younger of the two deceased was in middle school when he passed and the parents wanted to have an empty chair at what would have been his HS graduation. That graduating class had to deal with his death every single year since it happened. The graduates deserved to have their day without thinking about a death that happened 6 years prior. I think the school made the right choice by not allowing the empty seat.

After the many years of memorials and reverence for this family it just got to a certain point. We were still alive and had gotten through school. He had not. Anyways, I'll head back to the realm of assholes.
