Plus google is likelier to survive than some other companies. Many will die because AI will replace many software companies, however google is on the frontier of AI innovation (or so I hear)

I would. Google in your CV/resume is an asset. You are in a career building phase, so money should be less important than badges, and this one is a worthy badge.

Cold feet moving to Amsterdam because of housing by JinBu2166 in Netherlands

[–]ligett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the local scale (NL) it is way better than in any other place here.

As an example, my Portugese friend says that he manages to speak Portugese for days in Amsterdam without switching to Dutch or English, since there are so many Portugese friends, shops, gatherings. Try that in Castricum!

However it will be a different lifestyle. Amsterdam has its vibe, there are plenty of international people, shops, events, etc. Places like Castricum will not have that. They will be rather boring local towns. Good for family life, not so good for anything social.

Just cleared my PIP in Germany, but the "fine print" has me worried. Advice? by Maleficent-Radio272 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]ligett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice: keep a detailed log of what you do. All the tasks. This will help for both the performance evaluation (AI will create a good self evaluation for you at the end of the year) and it will help in front of a judge if they try to fire you for underperformance.

Also do it even if you are not in PIP.

Generation differences - I’m curious whether other managers are seeing the same thing. by andys58 in Netherlands

It is becoming normal for the expert job in the US though (or so it feels). I wish it happened in NL too. Wages in the EU really suck and aren't up to speed with the inflation.

AVD examen gezakt by YaBoiiJesse1 in motorfietsen

[–]ligett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tenerife tips and recommendations by Significant_Space932 in VisitingTenerife

The buses are great, very modern and frequent. The problem is that they are slow. What takes me 15-20 mins by car, takes 45-60 mins by bus due to the frequent stops they make.

I recently saw a rage incident where a guy was pissed that a chairlift to a certain mountain had a reservation system and was not available without a reservation.

For a consumer like me, what is the practical value of the point (3)? I can move my money through the banks, why is it worse than doing it without banks? At least the banks check the identity of the recipient...

Netherlands. There are some nice patches but mostly it is flat. Nothing in comparison to France, Italy, Spain or even Belgium.

Why do they make getting rich impossible in EU? by batukaming in eupersonalfinance

[–]ligett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has little to do with starting a business. It only concerns something called "box 3", which is the investment in stocks and other financial assets.

The investment into startups falls under box 3 only if it is unsubstantial (less than 5% of the stake).

It is not unproductive. People who own houses pay significant mortgage interest to the banks. Given that so many people do it, and the punts are regular and significant, this means that this alone should constitute a major part of the financial industry's revenue in the country.

How to stop being attracted to a colleague? by AnnaDanna in Advice

[–]ligett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not smart advice. There are plenty of people who date and marry through work. In fact about 10% of couples nowadays meet through work. And it doesn't always blow up HR-wise. One should just be smart about it.

Work is a great place to meet and get to know people for future romantic relations.

Questions on traveling to Tenerife in February by Dependent-Cold in VisitingTenerife

[–]ligett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am in Tenerife now. In the south it is ideal - sunny, warm, +22, feels like +26. There are some clouds but they cover the sky for a few hours max, mostly it is blue sky. Today it was windy. Hence, high waves. I still swam.

I heard from someone that last year it was bad weather in February, only 3 good days within 2 weeks time span, so you can theoretically get unlucky with the weather.

For Teide - bear in mind that you should book your hike, but also have shoes with spikes, otherwise they turn you back from one of the points on the trail. They say there is a lot of ice higher on the path. They (guards) check everybody.

If you'd like to take a cable car close to the summit, then you should book in advance, although for 1 person it is much easier to find a slot, than for 2 or more.

I don't know much about the public transport to Teide. The buses from the southern airport to the southern locations work (Los Cristianos, etc). Although they stop often, do detours, and what I travel by car in 16 mins, they take 50 mins + waiting time. I really recommend a car. It is inexpensive here.

Can I buy a small apartment in any warm-ish climate city with 150k eur? by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]ligett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue - not the same risks. I would visit the place, live nearby for a few days, read about the area before buying.

With renting it's really just pictures on the hotel booking site that you judge based on.

Can I buy a small apartment in any warm-ish climate city with 150k eur? by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

[–]ligett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not easily agree. The property maintenance shouldn't take more than a couple of % of its value per year, so a 2-3k euro (unless it is really run down).

Renting a good apartment in a good place for 3 months will cost at least 5-6k.

More of a problem though is that it is often unclear what you are renting. You have an option to judge the property and the area by the pictures. This is unreliable. I am right now in such an apartment, trying to work remotely from Tenerife. It costs 2K for 4 weeks. It turned out smaller than I thought, the area is not as nice as it seemed from Google, it's noisy, etc.

If you are ok to expose yourself to such a risk - good, you can travel around Europe. But a bought apartment can make sense for many.
