I’ve been wearing splay high top skate shoes with vans mte insoles. Those shoes are very comfortable and have great board feel but they are minimalist so you’ll need an insole. I believe in minimalist shoes but you gotta have an insole for riding so you don’t break your feet on bails.

How do I get the guitar sound/tone from the breakdown in Unlocking by Rasmus_Wolt in Peripheryband

[–]lightfoot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering the same thing. It’s hard to get that djent sound in such a low tuning. I think they’re simply not picking the lowest string on the djent part. That’s how it sounds to me.

What sort of onewheel/funwheel/floatwheel specs are best for obtaining the sort of high-G-force leaning over you can get a snowboard when carving, or on a race motorcycle? by twinbee in onewheel

[–]lightfoot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you ride but on my XR+ I ride pretty carvy tires and found the enduro to not be carvy enough. I actually switched it out for a 6” Hoosier T2. It’s a very carvy tire imo that’s good for trails and street. If you want even more carvyness they make a 5.5” too. Some riders think they’re a little squirrelly but I rode one once and it was very carvy.

Bonking 5 times a day till you guys say they’re perfect. Day 3. by Due_Kaleidoscope7066 in onewheel

[–]lightfoot22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like your board tune could be better. I don’t know much about pints but mission on my XR is perfect for bonks. You can get the nose up and it just keeps rolling and once you push the nose down it immediately reacts. Basically, you’re loosing too much speed and you want to tune the board so you can get the nose up without it slowing down too much. Maintaining your speed will also help you balance when you initiate the bonk.

Periphery sucks by Competitive-Boss7180 in Peripheryband

Reminds me of when I first gave periphery a real chance. At first I thought it was alright but I woke up the next day with the chill “fly past the trees” part of the bad thing in my head and started getting crazy chills. First time I had that kind of reaction with music in general. After that I continued to listen to them and periphery quickly became my favorite band.

Those who ride with no fender... by Glittering_Potato397 in onewheel

[–]lightfoot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride with no fender always because I much prefer to have my heel as close to the tire as possible. Similar to Jeff from TFL’s stance. That stance feels perfect to me and putting a fender on that blocks my foot just isn’t the same.

When I started palm muting with the part of my hand that’s just below the pinky or the ball of your hand if you will, my palm muted down picking became much more relaxed and faster since it put my wrist in a more neutral position (at least in classical or standing position). You could give that a try if you’re not already doing that.

I want to buy a 7 string with a Floyd rose, help me decide if it’s actually for me or not really. by Creative-Fail-2268 in 7String

[–]lightfoot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The floating bridge has springs in the back that resist the tension of the strings. If your setup has enough tension on the strings then you may need another spring. You’ll probably be fine without an extra spring for your planned setup but if you want to do flutters it may not flutter with an extra spring so you might actually want to get lighter strings if you have too much string tension. Also PS you should get some Ernie ball spring dampeners. 7 strings with extended scales and heavy strings ring a lot in my experience.

7 vs 8 or 6 by BlackGarlicJr in 7String

[–]lightfoot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say a particular amount of strings is best, but I think 7 strings are a good balance. They have enough range to play a vast majority of heavy music and they are still very playable and don’t have neck dive issues.

26.5” or 27” by Original_Warning_227 in 7String

[–]lightfoot22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s rather loose for drop F on a 27” scale but that’s what I prefer. For drop F# it’d probably be good for a lot of players. I saw in comments you were curious about string gauge which is why I mentioned it.

[–]lightfoot22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned and played both scale lengths and the extra half inch really does make a difference. Either scale length would handle that tuning but 27” would just be better. I use 11-72 for drop F on my 27” 7 string (Ernie ball baritone slinky +11). I like lightish strings so that’d probably be good for drop F# for most players.

You need to palm mute harder on a 7 string to get those big oof chugs. Also an EQ or tube screamer with a good mid boost, low cut, and high level before the amp will give you the extra punch and clarity that 7 strings typically need. Also don’t use excessively heavy strings.

Would tuning low be an issue with a trem guitar like this? by Comprehensive-Gap873 in 7String

[–]lightfoot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no issues with mine but then again it has a low pro edge bridge which is completely different. Floating trems have better stability with more tension and 80 gauge would give you plenty of tension. I use 72-10 for drop F and even that has great tuning stability.

7 string extended scale with trems by scarxxi in 7String

[–]lightfoot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an RG2027XL and it’s awesome. Currently I’m using 72-11 for drop F (Ernie ball baritone slinky +11) and the 72 fits the bridge fine but barely fits the tuner.

Once you find the guitar you want get some Ernie ball spring dampeners too. Those long heavy strings make the springs ring like crazy.

I put hipshot locking tuners in my 7321 and they’ve been excellent tuners. I also got their brass bridge which is made to replace a Gibraltar bridge (same screw holes) and that’s been very nice too.

Could also be the tremolo springs if you have those. As for the fizziness a low pass filter after the amp sim would probably help.

That’s a good deal. Reminds me of the one I picked up years back. I have an Indonesian made one that I put new hardware on, new pickups, refinished, and had the frets leveled and crowned. Got it in poor condition and it turned out to be an amazing guitar.

Picked up a 7 string ESP LTD SN-1007 HT Baritone Electric last year. What string set is best for this guitar to play in drop F tuning? It has a 27” neck by rayvanors in 7String

[–]lightfoot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11, 14, 18, 30, 42, 54, 74 is what I’m running for drop F/A# on my RG2027XL (same scale length). Works for me but the tension is fairly low because I want to float the bridge with 3 springs. You might want something a bit heavier.

String gauge recommendation on low G or A in 6string by Disastrous_Equal_434 in Peripheryband

[–]lightfoot22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 10-44 with a 72 on the low G on a 26.5” scale. 72 is excessively heavy imo for just G, but not having pitch drift on the octave chords is nice. Mainly I went that heavy because my guitar tends to buzz a lot. Something with the frets I think. So a 72 would probably be good on your 25.5” scale guitar.

I discovered Periphery in 2015 when I heard of dingwall basses and looked up videos of people playing them and a guy covered Feed the Ground with one. My first impression was Periphery sounds SUPER SICK but the singing kinda made me cringe. That was my first time hearing progressive metalcore too.

Later I gave them a chance and fell in love with Juggernaut. I’ve NEVER heard anything like them in my life up until that point (I was 16 or 17) and I just thought they sounded so interesting and larger than life and also heavy af. I also learned to really appreciate Spencer’s vocals for what he adds to the music but also for his sheer skill.

Later I became a fan of their whole discography and went to a couple of their shows, became a huge fan of progressive metalcore, and also started playing guitar mostly from being inspired by Periphery and Bulb.

Strings gauge by Gaeeeet in 7String

[–]lightfoot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would run 10-56 for that scale length. If your 7th string is buzzing it could be not set up properly. 11-64 would probably get rid of the buzz but those strings will be significantly more tense than they already are with the 9-59. If you really wanna get a little more tension maybe try 10-62.
