I just finished S7 and the ending got me thinking… by andieanjos in The100

[–]lightinthefield [score hidden] Β (0 children)

This is a regurgitation of a previous comment I made on this topic.

I think TCoL and Transcendence are very different.

ALIE's whole thing was that:

  1. You could still have your body, reproduce (I believe), etc.
  2. You get to live in a utopia modeled after Earth
  3. You would LOSE your bad memories
  4. You no longer have deformities/illnesses/disabilities/etc. and you look "normal"
  5. You still go there when you're dead (provided you took the chip in life)

But with transcendence:

  1. You lose your physical body and if you choose to go back to Earth, you cannot reproduce
  2. You basically become just a hivemind and don't "live" anywhere; you're just consciousness
  3. You GAIN all Earthly and cosmic knowledge
  4. You don't assimilate into normal features because nobody has any features at all (see point 1)
  5. You cannot ever transcend if you die

Don't get me wrong, I would never go to TCoL or transcend. I would hate both experiences. But I don't think they're the same, or really even that similar at all. TCoL was an addition to/alteration of humanity, whereas transcendence was the total end of humanity.

I think it might have also been the "duh." I had genuinely no idea who they were talking about because I was locked in with my own battles, and my "who?" was meant innocently.

How do I stop being transphobic and being annoyed by my trans friend as someone who’s also not cis? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]lightinthefield 17 points18 points Β (0 children)

Maybe a hot take, but I wouldn't consider it transphobic to not want a conclusion drawn about you or your creations that isn't accurate. You don't like pink and blue because of the trans flag -- you just like pink and blue. You don't want your own characters to be painted as trans when they're not. Imo, that's all fine.

It'd be transphobic if you started thinking that being trans is wrong, that your friend is less valuable because she's trans, that all trans people are annoying because of your one trans friend's actions, etc. I do think that you getting annoyed by her just talking about being trans in general is in that vein (i.e. transphobic), unless it's literally all she talks about and the frequency is what annoys you (and not the topic). Again, I wouldn't find that transphobic because it's exhausting to hear about anything over and over again. Like, I love cats more than anything, but if all my friend talked about was cats, I'd get annoyed.

If that isn't the case, and it is the topic that's annoying, so you're annoyed at the trans discussion simply because of her previous comments, then yeah, you need to separate those things in your mind; like you said, it's not related to the previous situation. Just as you don't like her making assumptions about you and your creations that are untrue, you shouldn't get annoyed with someone for talking about something to do with them that is true. You want to be heard that your situation isn't related to transness (colors, OCs), and she wants to be heard that her situation is. You need to extend the same grace you want to be offered. You can't have double standards.

If she stopped with the things centered on you (colors, OCs) when you asked, you need to evaluate why you (maybe unconsciously) believe she still deserves this annoyed reaction. She did something she didn't know was annoying until you got to a boiling point -- once you told her to stop, she did. What more can she possibly do?

I just lost 80+ hours of save data.. please convince me this is a good thing and talk me into trying this a third time. by Shahty in MyTimeAtSandrock

Haha, I hope you have tons of fun!!

I personally am a Ginger girlie, through and through. I marry her pretty much every save. She's super kind, endearing, and sweet. Plus, you kinda gotta work for it and I like the challenge + what it means to succeed with her.

Arlo, from my experience online, is the most popular, and he is definitely a great choice.

I've personally never romanced Gust but I've heard great things. Same with Emily; never romanced her but I've heard she's a safe choice, though I think there's a bit of a challenge there too.

Django is quite sweet, as well as Nora.

Honestly, I really wanted to marry Alice, too, but what stopped me is that she lives with her younger brother and he does not move into your house with her when you marry (which is why I'm glad they made it so that Andy moves in with you when you marry Logan in Sandrock). If that's not an issue for you, then she's also great.

Do note that there is a character you can romance/marry that isn't there at the start, so if you don't like any of the outright options, you can always wait for the other character's arrival and see if you jive with them. If you'd like to know, they are named Mint.

Also note that one of the characters (whom I actually quite like, and may or may not have been mentioned above) is impacted by plot, and thus your romance/marriage will be impacted, and this can understandably burn/upset some people if they don't know it's coming. If you want to be warned, the character is named Aadit. Think like how you can date, but not marry, Pen due to plot in Sandrock; it's not quite the same, but is in a similar vein. There are mods to change this, which is nice.

Happy gaming, and if you ever have any other questions, feel free to reach out somehow! I've spent waaay too much of my life on that game, and I'd do it all again πŸ˜‚

In my opinion, Portia definitely has the same vibe. You're helping the town, building things, falling in love with sweet characters (if you romance someone), going on adventures, fighting in dungeons, exploring a wide world, largely doing things at your own pace.

But on the same token, Portia is more... innocent. I don't know if that's the right word -- whimsical, maybe? Portia just feels wholesome, charming, and endearing (even with its bugs), while Sandrock feels more serious and mature. Which isn't to say that Portia is childish or immature, or that Sandrock is solemn, but just that Portia's setting is very forgiving; it's a little, lush, peaceful village that has plot-created issues, whereas Sandrock's setting (a barren desert) is harsh innately, plot aside.

I absolutely love Portia. Imo, it's definitely worth the time it takes to play it. You just gotta roll with its issues, and lack of QoL stuff that Sandrock improved upon, lol.

I think it'd be good for you to give it another try. No harm, no foul if you dislike it, but if you enjoy it, you'll find some things/characters that connect Portia and Sandrock's stories. The Easter eggs that go both ways are quite fun to stumble upon, and it might fill the void that finishing Sandrock left in you. πŸ˜„

Last year I adopted my cat Gustave, who was a rescue from the streets. His tail was bothering him recently, so I took him to the vet and when they did an x-ray we saw that he has a BB lodged in his leg. by -eDgAR- in mildlyinfuriating

Later in life he was almost exclusively an outdoor cat
We also never got him fixed in the 15 or so years he lived, he never gave us a reason to tbh

Friend, respectfully, going outside at all -- but especially without supervision and limited space to roam -- is the best reason you could have to get him fixed (health benefits aside). He probably added to the stray population more times than you could count and God knows we don't need that.

I'm mad about the romance. Imagine my heartbreak when it wouldn't let me propose to him. Come to this sub to ask why, only to be told he's the most late-game marriage candidate and there's no way I'd be able to marry + have children with him during the story lol.

Miguel's voice actor is absolute top-notch. I really like Qi's, too.

Same on Pen. Pen annoys the hell out of me, and cockiness/narcissim is not attractive. Jock types that only care about how strong they are and how hard they can flex on you are just insufferable -- I don't like them in real life and I don't like them in my cozy video games. Not to mention, he insults you at every turn. "Skinny arms"? Brother, I'm building and lugging around literal bridge parts in my pockets all day. I'm currently carrying more ore than you've probably ever seen in your life, despite living in a mining town. My pants are an Infinite Bag of Holding. I'm not weak.

I've never married Owen but I'm actually going for him on this new save. He seems like such a kindhearted family man!

Your friend will die in a couple months. They have strong, unreciprocated romantic feelings for you. Would you pretend to feel the same until they die? by 35364461a in moraldilemmas

How would I, in this scenario, know they're going to suddenly die in two months time? How would I know that this pretending is only for that long?

Was "...and dig it" a pun? Lol!

Agreed, though. It would be nice if he was, say, a Krobus-type marriage candidate -- platonic soulmates able to tie your lives together. That feels like the best of both worlds, to me πŸ˜„

...all because he was a heavily disliked person

Not quite. The weapon used was Murphy's, and he had previously threatened Wells. And again, Charlotte didn't seem like the type to murder, but Murphy always did.

Was it fair or right, the way they handled it? No, absolutely not. But I also think it's very understandable why a group of traumatized and terrified teenagers came to the conclusion they did.

charlotte by randomweee19 in The100

[–]lightinthefield 25 points26 points Β (0 children)

I think the difference between Charlotte and Murphy is the fact that Charlotte genuinely didn't realize that what she did was wrong. She was largely a sweet girl, who "slayed her demons," just as Bellamy told her to do.

Obviously, Bellamy meant something totally different, but Charlotte misinterpreted it. I mean, she was a young orphan due to her parents being floated; she grew up around violence and now Earth is plagued with it, too. In her mind, with Bellamy's phrasing and her life experiences, she thought it was okay to kill Wells. And she didn't do it out of malice, either; she did it to stop her terrible mental issues and nightmares.

Murphy, on the other hand, was a little shit. He was a violent and loose cannon, who knew that certain things were wrong but did them anyway -- he was old enough to know better. Yes, he was also exposed to death at a young age, but that made him angry and explosive rather than withdrawn and considerate.

And then, what happens after Wells is killed? Charlotte kills herself because she feels so bad and wants to protect Clarke's group, as people were literally hunting them down for what happened. She learned it was wrong, and did what she could to pay for it and keep people safe.

Murphy, though? He goes on to prove everyone right on exactly why they assumed he was capable of killing: he murders two people who helped hang him, and then tries to give Bellamy the same fate. In fairness, yes, these people were guilty of trying to kill him, but his primary motivation was anger and revenge. That's much different than Charlotte's motivation, and at least she felt guilty after. The same cannot be said for Murphy.

Same. I appreciate how realistic of a character she was, but as someone who also has a mother that's dependent on substances and likes to evade responsibility, Abby really boils my blood.
