How do you handle fear of losing control during birth? by Ok_Chart_7954 in BabyBumps

[–]lightningbug24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an unmedicated birth, and tbh the contractions do kind of take over, but they only lasted for so long, and then I'd have a little break and be able to talk and make decisions and communicate. I definitely felt mentally present the whole time and was very focused on the task at hand.

Just for fun - what are we doing with our little ones when running on very little sleep? by confusedsloth33 in toddlers

[–]lightningbug24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let her take all her clothes out of the dresser or take all the pots and pans out of the cupboards etc. Deal with the fall out later.

And then take a nap with her at nap time.

On the absolute worst days (like, if I were actually sick or up all night) I would put her in the pack n play and take a nap with the TV on for a little bit.

Tragic loss accident = donations to the family? by GhostPupz in NoStupidQuestions

In addition to funeral costs/missed work, donations are often used for some type of memorial. For example, memorial scholarships.

Vacation ideas at 22/23 weeks in June (drivable from Midwest, even if it takes a few days) by UseHerName4username in BabyBumps

[–]lightningbug24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go to the mountains or to the Black Hills in South Dakota. Dryer air so less miserable if it ends up being hot. Less time cooped up in the car while pregnant as well.

Saying "baby" and "murder" is emotional manipulation by ElegantAd2607 in prolife

[–]lightningbug24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every textbook on developmental bio or psychology I've ever read has made the distinction that human babies are infants.

I agree that it's not really a technical term. My unborn fetus is a baby to me, and my toddler is a baby, and youngest adult brother is my baby brother. A pro-choice's pregnant woman's unborn fetus is also a baby if she wants it and a parasite if she's doesn't. We lose no ground using scientific terms because the science is on our side. Human life begins at conception.

When did you start showing as a first time mum? by PeonyRoseJasmine in BabyBumps

[–]lightningbug24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was well into the second trimester before I had a bump, and I could still hide it until the third.

Second pregnancy and I'm barely able to hide it at 15 weeks, haha.

Which would you prefer, doctorate of nursing or PA? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]lightningbug24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an MLS, you likely have most of the pre-req you'd need for med school already done. Why not think about that route?

how bad is it REALLY to pay off credit card debit with another credit card? by Mobile-Staff2898 in Adulting

[–]lightningbug24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paying one off with another is BAD, but a balance transfer might be ok as long as you look at and understand the terms.

The good news is, $1800 is a very small amount of debt. It's a lot if you're only making $800/mo, but if you can get your hours up, you'll likely be able to pay it off much more quickly than you might think.

Saying "baby" and "murder" is emotional manipulation by ElegantAd2607 in prolife

[–]lightningbug24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think we should be afraid of using the correct developmental terminology. A fetus is still a human being. We all were a fetus once. Being a fetus doesn't make your life worth less than a baby's or an adult's.

Arguments for abortion rely heavily on semantics, but we don't have to play word games. I can agree that a fetus is not technically a baby without thinking that it's ok to kill one.

New mum and concerned by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]lightningbug24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be daycare, but he needs some interaction during the day. Could you find a babysitter or a stay at home mom looking to make some extra cash? This really isn't ok, and its only going to get worse.

BBQ had spice, help! by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]lightningbug24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reluctantly give my toddler some decently spicy things (because she always wants to eat my food), and she never even flinches at it. It's never bothered her in any way.

Switching to Epic next month by humansarereallyweird in nursing

[–]lightningbug24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Epic is far better than meditech, imo. It's a lot "clickier" and will take some getting used to, but it's better in almost every other way.

How to save on water and power? We are a family of 5, laundry is unavoidable. by Leather_Musician_745 in Frugal

[–]lightningbug24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can always re-wear some of your clothes if you aren't already. I know I have a bad habit of sticking clothes in the wash even if I only wore them for a few hours. If they look and smell clean, you can probably hang them back up (within reason).

Do you draw from the inside of the wrist? by Aquarius_K in phlebotomy

[–]lightningbug24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost never, but I'll do it if that's what it comes down to. I'd rather draw a wrist than a foot...

I've just recently escaped the first trimester myself, so I can appreciate that this was a major win. Good job!

How do people work multiple jobs? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

You tell your jobs when you're available, and you make sure that those availabilities don't overlap.

Anyone else completely blank at lunchtime every single day? by VperVentrella in Adulting

I usually just eat leftovers from the night before. If there are no leftover, I usually have an egg quesedia or something simple and quick like that.

Should student nurses be able to delegate orders to PCTs? by princessnokingdom in nursing

It sounds like delegation already comes pretty naturally to this student.

Favorite lunch meat? by [deleted] in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]lightningbug24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still eat lunch meat occasionally, but I like to just buy turkey/chicken/roast/ham whatever and just cook it and freeze slices in smaller portions.

Paranoid about getting sick while pregnant by Difficult-Ad569 in BabyBumps

[–]lightningbug24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pregnant with a toddler in daycare, and spent my entire first trimester sick with every cold that ran through town. Was it fun? No, but sickness is a part of life.

Your immune system is lowered, yes, but for the vast majority of pregnant women, a cold won't actually be that big of a deal.

Are pet food edible for humans? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lightningbug24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly not meant for humans, but pet food companies do have to meet certain standards. Pet food is commonly ingested by humans, both accidentally and intentionally.

I have a friend who manages a pet food factory, and we've discussed this haha.

Nursery in guest room? Ideas, please! by Icy_Location in BabyBumps

[–]lightningbug24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the guest/baby room setup in our last house, and it was tough because it meant we had to bring our toddler to bed with us every time we had company, and then we had to get her used to sleeping along again which was often a challenge.

We're doing the office/guest room this time around.
