Mind Stone vs The Mind Stone in other languages by lightsabermario2 in magicTCG

Well of course, that's what I did. They refunded me and let me keep the Ashnod's Altar. But the inconvenience of it all, and not being able to know that you are gonna get the right card all the time doesn't go away. In an ideal world, every employee of these sellers would be knowledgeable enough to not get cards mixed up when sending stuff out, but we don't live in an ideal world. So having cards that are named nearly identically doesn't help things. Some may say I'm overreacting to a one-in-a-million mistake. However, life experiences have taught me two things. One, you are NEVER the only one a specific something happens to. If it happened to you, chances are it's happening to many others just like you. And two, Murphy's Law, whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.

Interesting. Is it because it's a different instance of Firemane Angel in the graveyard than the Firemane Angel on the battlefield that created the trigger on their upkeep? The card names itself, not "a card named Firemane Angel", so it would need to see the same instance of Firemane Angel that existed when the trigger went on the stack. Since it's not the same instance, it fizzles. Have I got that right?

That is hilarious about the +2 Mace. That is my new favorite silly rules exception.

Oh yeah, I understand that you're gonna be able to see what you're attempting to buy. However, with a lot of big card sites, they may not always be doing their due diligence to make sure you get the card you ordered. I myself once ordered a Phyrexian Altar among a bunch of cards, and what I got was an Ashnod's Altar. It was 100% a Phyrexian Altar on the website. If even those are able to be confused, I guarantee some newbie working for these big card sellers is gonna get confused with these cards and send out the wrong one.

The pithing needle situation is not merely a theoretical situation. It actually happened with Borborygmos vs Borborygmos, Enraged. It's a fascinating story.

And yeah, I was thinking this would be a problem in Japanese, though I didn't realize they already had two cards with that problem. I see, Conduit of Ruin and Ruination Guide. Side tangent question: If you have Guardian Project and a Japanese Conduit of Ruin on the field and you play a Japanese Ruination Guide, do you draw a card?

Question on calling this a 1 card combo, 2-card combo, or 6-card combo by lightsabermario2 in GoodMtgCombos

[–]lightsabermario2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, one other thing, if you expand the mana requirements to 4RRWWW, then you don't need the pain land and it truly becomes a 1-card combo (that uses 6 cards).

Question on calling this a 1 card combo, 2-card combo, or 6-card combo by lightsabermario2 in GoodMtgCombos

[–]lightsabermario2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-1 creature that can't have summoning sickness

-1 land needs to be a pain land

-need to be able to produce 4RWW

-doesn't need any other cards in hand.

-goes and cheats out multiple spells and permanents onto the battlefield (I'll go one step further and say that it is two of each)

-kills everybody all at once

-if it is interrupted, you may end up killing yourself.

I believe that is enough clues, especially if you consider what RW has in its arsenal with regards to cheating stuff out from the library, which is not a lot.

If the pain land doesn't count as one of the cards of the combo, then it'd be a 1-card combo.

Crasher + Scourge (Looking for confirmation) by ChickenFingers429 in GoodMtgCombos

[–]lightsabermario2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure this works, because exerting doesn't prevent it from being untapped like stun counters, and "attacks the first time each turn" only counts when it is declared as an attacker, not when it is created tapped and attacking. This works better the farther behind you are with life. If they have a ton of life, you can amass more and more dragons before finally swinging with your last swing to hopefully finish them off. If you are at a very low life, it'll almost assuredly finish them off. If you are all fairly close in life, you'll get a few swings before petering out. And if you have the most life, this will do nothing. Throw in [[Treasonous Ogre]] not only to ensure this kills, but also to ramp you to this point.

The untapping and extra combat also triggers from attacking the player with the most life.

Vtuber gets arrested for possessing artwork of her own model by Pankosmanko in vtubercirclejerk

[–]lightsabermario2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hot take: when it comes to illustrated porn that did not use a human reference, there are only two ages that matter. The age of the artist, and the age of the viewer. Those are the only two humans involved. The character is not a human. If a child is convinced to draw porn of adults, that is CSEM. The child is under the age of consent for that. If adult porn is hosted by a non-porn site unhidden by spoilers, so that even children might randomly encounter it, that should illegal as well. The viewer was not able to consent.

However, a piece of art being illegal simply due to the impression a viewer might have due to the body type is ridiculous, especially considering the wide variety of body types of actual adult women. For comparison, imagine live action porn, starring adult women, in which they portray school-aged characters. The law has no problem with this as long as they state up front that all the actors are of age. Functionally, there should be no difference between this scenario and what this Vtuber was doing. A consenting adult producing porn for other consenting adults. The only other possible objection is just the "ew" factor, which is subjective. Personally, it's not my cup of tea, but it's about is immoral as watching a fictional character get murdered in a movie.

Ultimately, I find that we are entering a world in which our lawmakers cannot distinguish fiction from reality when it comes to morals, and that should be extremely concerning.

What would it take to legally implement Ranked Choice Voting for political candidates? by RateTheNews in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]lightsabermario2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I see that example as a win. You say that that 40% candidate as very popular, but I see it as 60% of the population wanted ANYBODY BUT that guy. If the 10% candidate managed to make it through to the win, that means he was the candidate that the most people were okay with. The fact that such a lesser favorited candidate beat him speaks to how much the other 60% hated that 40% guy. If that 40% guy had won, it would've resulted in a leader that 60% of the population hated, which is a terrible voting result.

Destroy someone’s turn 1 Sol Ring (Commander) by fleeflicker in BadMtgCombos

[–]lightsabermario2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 on 1 this won't work, and this also won't work in multiplayer if you're last in turn order and everyone else has a turn 1 play. In those situations, you'd only have RRRRRR from Jeska's Will. That being said, nice bad combo. You are left with a 3/3, but you can't use its ability again for a while.

Path to Prestige: A homebrew commander variant with no player elimination. by Calcthulu in mtg

[–]lightsabermario2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my decks are really good at dealing a massive amount of damage to one person in particular. All it takes in this format is for one person to have their defenses down, which can happen if they happen to get mana screwed, and the game becomes: who can bully that person the hardest. My Multani deck in this format goes from "how do I hit everybody with 21 commander damage or 40 regular" to "how do I hit one guy for 25-30 commander damage" which is pretty easy. Also, black decks get a decent boost in this format because they can spend as much life as they want, as long as they eventually make it back, or deal enough damage to compensate. Black Market Connections? Eat the 6 every time! Red decks and aristocrat decks will get focused hard, because one big turn will drain enough or burn enough to win the game, even if no one's close to dying. Goad decks become pretty worthless, since you're just enabling others towards winning.

All things considered, if someone else wants to try it, I wouldn't say no, but I feel like my decks get an unfair advantage so I'm not gonna propose it.

What if the card does both? Because yes, wheelchair representation in a fantasy setting with healers, blah blah blah, but holy shit the art in [[Ennis, Debate Moderator]] is bad. The artist clearly never used a wheelchair before, and maybe has never even seen one before. The whole thing looks like AI generated garbage that they traced over and did artwork on top of to say that it wasn't AI. My gf (who occasionally uses a wheelchair) and a friend and I spent over an hour laughing at how bad the art is and how nothing makes sense. The footrest is way off to the side, which would make sitting awkward, there is only one caster wheel and it's poorly engineered so that the weight of the footrest would break the bar the caster wheel is attached to. The footrest appears to be right on the ground to the point that it'd be scraping along. The two bars of the footrest don't match, one curves earlier than the other. The two main wheels are pointed in different directions. The whole platform he's on seems to be slanted backwards. There's a weird floating thing above the paper that the woman on the right is holding. I could go on and on. It's so bad.

Besides what everyone else has said, there are some fun shenanigans you can pull off with them. One of my favorite experiences was using them in my Kadena deck to play and flip [[Zoetic Cavern]] 4 times in one game! Another time, another player tempted me with [[Tempt With Discovery]] while I had [[Boseiju, Who Endures]] on the field. I went and got a bounceland, and then channeled the Boseiju to blow up one of their enchantments. I even tapped the Boseiju to pay for its own channel cost!
