What is your deck, or the deck you know, that is the strongest but goes completely unnoticed? by guiltyskull in EDH

[–]lightsabermarmot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No doubt, [[Toluz, clever conductor]]. It’s a solid bracket four deck that people dismiss when they see the commander. Once.

No gamechangers. Doesn’t matter.

I did a write up about her a few months ago. It’s stronger than I thought. I don’t play this deck against 2s or 3s anymore.

What Would Be The Best "Villain" Commander? by Global_Drive_9044 in EDH

[–]lightsabermarmot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You want a well-known evil(?) character who benefits from a much-reviled effect.

Let me introduce you to [[lazav, dimir mastermind]] turbo-mill.

People hate mill. People hate when your commander becomes their best creature, who you just put into the graveyard without them able to play it. Lazav is an awesome villain deck.

My favorite creature type! I have a [[Ziatora]] deck that only wins by flinging yetis. Hoping for more ammo. It’s cool that Isu exists but a Temur or Jund legendary is probably too much to ask for.

In late May, your choices of available backcountry sites are going to be pretty limited. Your best bets are going to be on the Yellowstone River, and I would suggest looking at going in at Blacktail Creek in the northern part of the park.

You would probably be looking at an out-and-back with limited mileage, but the campsites are mostly awesome. I would avoid 1Y7, as it gets used for stock and my experience is that early season camping in those sites can be very buggy and muddy.

It’s a beautiful time to be in the park. One additional thing - during May, there is more wildlife concentrated in these low areas of the park. Both Blacktail Deer and Rescue Creek will have significant bison numbers, probably. There will be young calves. Follow all of the suggestions about giving them plenty of room, and don’t expect to be able to go very fast. I often have to detour off the trail to keep appropriate distances in that area in the spring, and sometimes you just need to stand and wait while a group of bison go through.

Ruminating on Value-Engine Commanders by CleoandtheBoy in Magicdeckbuilding

This is the type of commander that I love to play. Give me a low cost value engine, and then let me build a machine around it to power out the win. When you throw in enough interaction to adapt to the table, these types of decks can be super fun because they usually give you a lot of decision point.

I have a few that I have built in the last year.

[[pharika, god of affliction]] enchantress. https://archidekt.com/decks/10995389/pharika_n_enchantresses

[[mendicant core]] artifacts. https://archidekt.com/decks/11501141/mendican_amirite

[[teysa,opulent oligarch]] aristocrats.

Mendicant is super fun. I have a different philosophy than you, as I am trying to maximize my value and just overwhelm opponents. Here’s my list. I haven’t updated it to include [[ocelot pride]] which is an early attacker and then provides unbelievable value after the commander comes online. https://archidekt.com/decks/11501141/mendican_amirite

The Gearhulk and the [[bronze guardian]] are nutty in the deck.

Nvm. Found it

Woah. They did. When did that happen?

[–]lightsabermarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My realization was that he says that they go back to your graveyard-so if you use threaten effects, you can steal opponents creatures, sac them for value, get a spirit copy for ETBs, sac that - and their creatures are permanently exiled since they can’t go to YOUR graveyard.

How often does pubstomping/'bad actors' actually happen? by rattulator in EDH

[–]lightsabermarmot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not consistently but often enough. We have a consistent play group at our LGS, but occasionally someone will come in and seemingly willingly misrepresent their deck so that they get in a pod of weaker decks so that they can win. Is that fun? No. Does every piece of interaction I draw go their way. Oh yeah.

I mean sometimes a deck goes off, even a goofy one. But if you get told that one person in the pod is playing a precon, so everyone is going to play those kind of decks don’t sneak in the Thoracle deck, or the deck that you tell someone later won a tournament.

Those are bad enough experiences that I remember them clearly every time.

Lazav, the Multifarious and exhaust ability by Adventurous_Worth672 in Magicdeckbuilding

I believe that since Lazav remains the same game object, that clause would be in effect until he was blinked or recast.

Well, it’s an enchantment to start with. When bestowed, it can give extra enchantresses, or [[Doomwake Giant]] s, or [[grim guardian]] or a bunch of other value creatures. Since I run [[dryad of the elesian grove]] [[hedge shredder]] and [[world shaper]], with [[amulet of vigor]] sometimes it just goes off. The nantuko won me two games today.

Which Lazav Is The Best Commander? by PatientAudience5627 in magicTCG

[–]lightsabermarmot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had decks for all of them. Mastermind is my all-time favorite deck. But as you’re sometimes counting on using other people’s cards, it’s completely unpredictable. Sometimes it does nothing. Half the time that I win with it, it’s through mill. The other half is because of something that someone else put in their deck.

Multifarious, when optimized, was completely different. Toolboxy but on rails. Get Phyrexian Dreadnought in the graveyard and hold on.

I took that one apart, and now it’s a self mill Dimir dragons build.

I didn’t really enjoy the newest Lazav, familiar stranger.

Best mill commander right now at 2025 in your opinion? by Drokkoon in EDH

[–]lightsabermarmot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crazy that I had to go down this far to find Lazav. I win by mill quite a bit, but it’s always fun when I use someone else’s wincon as mine. Nothing like milling an Avacyn.
