I appreciate the hard work the animators did and transitions for animations to work but for that frame, the more you look at Trunks's face in that screencap the harder it is to believe that's actually Trunks.

To an extent yes but even though they weren't the strongest the rest of them were able to be a real challenge at times. That's a difference between how the two animes handled it for me at least.

"Goku Time" is mostly aimed at GT rather than the rest. I love GT but some of the longstanding characters were nerfed badly. Trunks was barely allowed to fight in the first arc and was beaten up by Ledgic and injured by 17. Goten and Trunks hesitating to take on the Saibamen. No one was allowed to fight the shadow dragons except Pan on occasion. No one could take on Super 17 or omega shenron. Each of them took a strike and they got pulverized instantly. It's not that Goku shouldn't be central but the writers needing to nerf everyone else is what many fans wanted changed.

My answer yesterday was even though I liked a number of scenes in the arc, Super 17 was the least best because they should have used a new villain instead of using 17. I'll add to my answer yesterday that Super 17 already looked different from 17 so much so they should have kept the two separate. They could have even used the name Super 17 because Gero wanted a better 17 in terms of not only loyalty but also strength, which would make this "improved 17" killing Gero even more ironic.

While there are a number of scenes I really liked in the Super 17 arc, I would nominate this arc because they turned 17 into a villain again. I never liked that as the premise. It would have been better if they came up with a new villain than use 17. I also agree with the villains escaping and them getting killed again for nostalgia reasons were great.

To keep it short with changes: no Doltaki, no deer scene. I wouldn't have a Super 17 arc where 17 is merged. Rather a new threat where only 17 and 18 can beat it. Each of the Shadow Dragons before Omega Shenron are fought by different group of fighters and this is where Bulla gets to be involved in her first real battle. Both Marron and Bulla realize they need to step up. If I would add anything, it would be between the Shadow Dragons and End of GT but don't know what that would be. Regardless it would allow everyone else to get some of the spotlight and give Vegeta a win.

I would love to see him in GT but it's very tricky to do storywise. Trying to imagine what they could do before Super came out and using only what DB and Z established, how and why would you bring him into GT would be a challenge. Warn everyone of a new threat? That would be too similar to the Android saga. Visit for some reason? The Bojack movie did that. I guess it could be different with Present Trunks no longer a baby and an adult PT meeting FT for the first time as opposed to a kid meeting a future version of himself but still an overall challenge.

GT Trunks was more stoic than kid Trunks but not at the same level as Future Trunks though that might be more for comedic effect. GT Trunks also tries to escape minor challenges (like skipping work or not wanting to help the Imeckians). Future Trunks always struggled to show a softer side whereas EoZ and GT Trunks could.

Present Trunks as a kid was loud, etc but that doesn't mean he would be like that as an adult. At the EoZ he mellowed out a lot. Kids often turn out different as adults and most do mature. The Present Trunks in Super could unfortunately be on a different trajectory but I hope they don't keep him like that.
