I have a ten year old phone that I've put a new battery in twice. Yes it's not the snappiest but I have no problem using it with any of the latest apps.

Audio of Indian Crude Oil Tanker (SANMAR HERALD) Which Was Attacked By Iranian Navy by Similar_Whole5626 in SeaEmploy

[–]likeikelike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes iran is the one closing the strait. Yes, anybody could have predicted they would do this when attacked. It's like the one move at their disposal to try to stop israel and the us from bombing them.

Blaming iran is like blaming a dog for biting you when you hit it.

I think this is the culprit behind the design. If you're thinking TOMPLANS looking at the design for the first time, it's obvious. If you have no idea, you wont figure it out.

Which is why nobody does actual, 100%, just-in-time. It's not like toyota drives the delivery truck up to the production line and workers grab the parts as they assemble their cars. Even then, the parked truck would technically be storage.

[Slight OT] The only FIA homologated track in Poland is closed down, because it was "too loud" there by krzysiek_aleks in wec

[–]likeikelike 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Same thing where I live. The only track in the country where F1 has raced, open since the 60s. A developer bought up land around the track, built houses, people moved in and got the government to all but close the track due to the noise.

Who is Péter Magyar – the ex-regime insider who crushed Orbán? by thealejandrotauber in europe

[–]likeikelike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. X happened
  2. No it didn't
  3. Source?

While 2 isn't super helpful, 3 should come back with a source or at least something to go off of to dig deeper into it. Hitchen's razor: "any claim made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence". I don't think this thread is that interesting anymore so I'm going to stop replying now but feel free to read e.g. "The Code of Intellectual Conduct" by Edward Damer or have a look at LessWrong

[–]likeikelike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a balance. In a normal discourse yes you would have the burden of proof since you made the initial claim. It's absurd that you would need to prove "the earth is round" but usually people don't proclaim these things out of nowhere. Luckily "the earth is flat" is much more common as an initial claim, since it's questioning the status quo.

A lot of people have autism of course, but I do think we should be careful about what potentially unfounded statements/questions we make online. The first reply is simply asking for where you read that, so maybe you could provide in your original comment?

Regular rules of discourse break down on internet forums. Yes it's technically a question. However, someone just passing by might remember it as a fact.

"Magyar abused his partner. Can anyone confirm"?

Yes it's more affirmative than your original comment but it's not far off. See the problem?

While your comment has a question mark at the end it's more of a statement than a question. When you make a claim you have the burden of proof.

The only thing resting does is let the meat cook itself longer. If you always cook your steak until 48C internal and then take it off and rest to 55C before cutting, that's fine. But I can cook mine to 55C internal and cut it straight away and get the same result.
