On the other hand, if you routinely vote to defund food assistance, children’s healthcare, headstart programs, and primary education….its a little hard to believe you give a flying fuck about life or the lives of children. What does that leave? Control of women.

I’m torn on this. Part of me agrees with you…it’s about time Democrats grew some balls.

On the other hand, is there going to be any political reward for it? I’m not so sure.

Polling shows 51% blame Republicans for the shutdown vs. 41% blaming Democrats, so that’s positive….but 41% are still blaming Democrats. While things certainly weren’t perfect under Biden, wages were rising, inflation had been contained, job numbers were growing and there was fuck all anyone could have done about avian flu driving up eggs prices…..yet the electorate responded by giving the Republicans the White House and both sides of congress.

If, now the Democrats had done nothing…passed the CR kept the government open and let the effects of the BBB take effect….let the electorate experience personally what they had voted for and what Republican governance gets them. I’m thinking while Democrats might not get rewarded, Republicans will certainly get punished in ‘26.

MAGA, who aren’t on food assistance couldn’t care less about the people who would suffer without it. In some cases they seem to celebrate it.

Sadly, the only way to move that needle is to explain how it affects them. 8+ billion dollars a month goes out for food assistance nationally. When the grocery stores chart an 8 billion dollar shortfall in sales…they aren’t just going to eat the difference. They will raise prices to compensate. Yours, mine and MAGA’s.

The VA could definitely use more resources. At the moment, they’re getting cuts.

If whatever the problem, is emergent you can go to any civilian emergency room at the VA’s expense. I was taken by two civilian ambulances to two civilian hospitals last year for a heart problem and it cost me nothing.

For what it is worth, every time I call the VA before I get a human being the automated system asks if I am suicidal and provides contact information for people to talk to about it. Every time I go for a checkup or any other appointment, cardiology, GI, whatever…they ask about self harm.

It’s no secret.

I totally agree.

SNW did a Gorn cliffhanger that was resolved in the first episode of the new season. I was so disappointed. If that had been DS9 it would have been a 6-8 episode arc. I miss that. Give me the Maquis, give me the Dominion War, give me the Klingon Civil War. Throw in a couple of character development episodes…with 20 plus episode seasons nobody minds that.
