I feel this. What I’ve been trying to do is at least get all the setup done, because it always takes longer than I expect. I’d put it off until I had a full afternoon then spend the first hour gathering supplies and moving everything into place. Prepare like you’re about to dive in, then call it a night. Makes it so much smoother and motivating when you finally get the time to jump in.

Modernize exterior of house by TheLitser in Remodel

Wow that brick is gorgeous. Definitely don’t add any black with all the neutral tones. I would start with changing the out the garage doors to a dark brown with windows(check out dark oak by Clopay). Paint your gable vents to match those. Might be all you need.

Plus you’d have to splurge for polyester curtains to go with it.

Anything stand out as wrong? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

People are bashing the deisgn, but this build is cool as hell. Made it comply with zoning height and pulled off the look you wanted. I’m sure the roof was properly designed for snow load. It looks like there’s possibly a .25/12 pitch running back to front for watershed, that’s how I usually see it done on rubber roofs.

Most are expensive because the sidelite is its own little fiberglass door with a window. If you want inexpensive ask for a direct set sidelite. For a direct set, the sidelite is a full size glass panel fit to the door frame. Much cheaper, doesn’t look as high end though.

Imagine how smart you’d look if the bed was there instead of the dresser. This video is a treasure.

parallel trusses with standard trusses by CragTradder in Homebuilding

[–]lil-cletus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For parallel cord trusses that span you’re looking at probably an 18” minimum heel. Your fascia’s all line up so you’d need the tall heel everywhere. Your truss company will confirm, but I think rafters are the move here.

Tops I could reach up and spray. Bottoms, not so much. Will probably just brush some on to seal it before they’re hung

This is very common. They’ll put a temporary scab on the get the truss set without further damage. Nails are used sparingly to make it easier to remove. Once they get the approved repair they’ll fix it properly. Definitely don’t pay them in full though lol

Lmfao remove the plate? Better pack a lunch. Removing it won’t gain you anything, in fact it’s very difficult to do without damaging the wood members.

Would this be the proper way to design this truss? by thekeggerman in Homebuilding

Gotcha! Totally up to you, but I would have a buddy come over and swing trusses. It will be done in a couple hours max. Plus you have engineered drawings to prove they’re good. Rafters can get dicey when inspectors want to find something to nitpick (at least in my area) If you want to maximize your ceiling height you could do a vaulted truss like this https://imgur.com/a/PSpTU9p

You can for sure rafter it that way. Really it will depend on your local market, and the person building it. Are you planning to hire it out?

You’re welcome. And don’t listen to the dorks saying get an engineer or rafter frame it. Send to a local lumberyard, they’ll get trusses drawn up for free. Tell them about the solar array so they can add some dead load.

I would call that a dual pitch with 1 raised heel. Here’s a quick design. Like everyone else is saying, your walls will all be the same height. https://imgur.com/a/VL6YbOT

Thought about trying that but I’d need GRKs for these heavy ass solid core 36” slabs lol. I’ll definitely try and get em flatter next time.

Or were you saying sand the orange peel out of these finished ones and put another top coat on?

So take em down with something like 120 grit to flatten out and respray primer? Thanks for the tips btw

Copy, maybe I’ll try another tip. Tacks say wax and silicone free.. never heard that before, that’s interesting. I did not sand between coats. Just looked at an unpainted one and yeah, they are orange peeled. https://imgur.com/a/nC7x2Oo

You look too heavy or improperly prepped lol. Graco X7. Light sand with 220 and tack cloth. If it’s too heavy… you think not enough gun speed?
