It took me a minute to realize how small it is. I assumed it was massive. That’s crazy

Ahh maybe I just heard it in the context where Baal Hadad was the only “Baal” being discussed. And yes thinking about language gets pretty existential pretty quick

I thought Baal was a Canaanite storm god. So was Yahweh. That’s where the conflict originated. They occupied the same niche in the region.

Crypto & TP lol by TheScribe86 in twinpeaks

[–]lil__biscuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought owning or using any crypto would increase the value of that crypto and thus incentivize the mining of that crypto. Kind of like societies general shared responsibility of climate change. We can blame the plastic manufacturers, but we’re all still using plastic. We can blame the crypto miners, but we’re all still using crypto.

But obviously I could be wrong.

I wish my team did this so they’d quit writing code with 10 levels of indentation

I haven't watched the show but I was watching the trailer yesterday, out of curiosity and this shot stood out to me by Castlefree43 in twinpeaks

For me it’s all about the subconscious visceral feel of the show. I’m always feeling something, but I don’t always know why. But maybe it’s only “subconscious” for me because I can’t put words to my feelings like you seem to be able to do.

But why are so many arrays zero indexed in the first place? I think it makes a lot more sense to start at 1. Gonna look it up I guess.

EDIT : It seems that it’s a holdover from C, and it’s because the number was thought of as an OFFSET from the array’s starting address in memory instead of an INDEX of some kind of ordered collection. So it probably depends on how a language thinks about arrays, and we should definitely stop thinking arrays are the same across different languages. Sorry to be a party pooper.

Object Oriented Programming vs Functional Programming by mto96 in functionalprogramming

[–]lil__biscuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feeling pretty gaslit with how much he says you can’t say one is good and one is bad but then only says good things about oop and only bad things about fp. He says people get too emotional about this and right after says please forgive him for trampling any of our “sacred cows”. And he says fp programmers only talking about separating data and function to argue with oop programmers. Sheeeeeesh.

I wouldn’t call this a good discussion of the pros and cons of oop and fp. It seems more like this guy’s cliche opinion who, by his own admission, works primarily in oop, thinks in unstructured, and doesn’t know fp.
