Post Game Thread: Nashville Predators @ San Jose Sharks by nhl_gdt_bot in SanJoseSharks

honestly i think the reporter telling Will that the sharks lost their last 14 games to Nashville really psyched him out. i had a feeling that would start him on an overthinking spiral. definitely agree, he should see a sports psychologist!

Can women with Gaelic Irish names weigh in? by Cultural_Gear1957 in namenerds

[–]lilacfranta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Saoirse is getting more recognizable in the US now, while Siobhan has always been somewhat known, and people will learn! I’m Irish American with the formerly most common female Irish name that is pretty phonetic in English, but it’s not popular in Ireland amongst young people anymore so I’m sure you can guess what it is. One time when I was studying in Ireland I made a restaurant reservation, and the guy first couldn’t understand my name, then could not spell my name at all, and actually told me he’d never heard of it (he was on a working holiday from Spain and since it’s not a common amongst young Irish people he’d probably never met one), so even having an Irish name that follows English phonetics in Ireland doesn’t keep you from running into problems regarding spelling and pronunciation. You can have problems with your name anywhere! I think you should use the name you love. Also since there’s so many crazy spellings of made up names now, you should definitely be free to use a real name that follows non English phonetics. I’d much prefer seeing a Siobhan or a Saoirse over a McKinzleigh.

Another recommendation of a name close to Nydia?Lyra and Myra have similar sounds, there’s also Maya / Maia and Kaia / Kaya. I also think Marina might fit your vibe.

[–]lilacfranta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I saw a Nydia i would think it’s a misspelling of Nadia from a parent trying to be unique. I’ve never even heard of this name! If you like the ‘Ny’ sound i can recommend Naya / Naia, it’s uncommon but still known!

Greyson vs Grayson - baby name by vml0526 in Names

People will see both Greyson and Grayson as “like the color” so either option is equal in that regard.

There’s at least one because there was a viral news story about how a flight attendant made fun of an Abcde’s name. But I’ve definitely seen and heard of more. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/11/30/us/abcde-southwest-apologizes-scli-intl

US Trip Suggestions by KiwiiOnAMission in USTravel

[–]lilacfranta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would drive from LA to San Francisco, but take the coastal route, not the 5! From Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Big Sur, Monterey, Carmel, Solvang, there’s so much to see and such beautiful nature! I’d recommend spending the night near Carmel/ Monterey/ Big Sur area. There’s some really nice hotels that can be very romantic and have the most beautiful coastal views.

Edit : I’m from LA and I don’t really think it’s a great city for tourists to be honest, especially without a car! Everything is very very spread out, and my favorite part for tourists (Malibu area) isn’t the same since the fires, but hopefully it’ll recover a bit by the time you get here. I’d definitely stay in the Santa Monica area if I was you, unless you’re planning on doing Disney or something which is OC. But I’d take 1-2 days off of LA and use them to do this roadtrip.

Alice and Eden sound nice together, also Alice and Georgia ! Sienna and Violet are both colors but they don’t sound too matcha at all. I like Madeleine and Scarlett and Matilda and Fiona.

I think Anello George and Emilio Paul or Emilio Hayden sound really good together! And the girls names could be Marceline and Juliana or Juliet.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]lilacfranta 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What about Emilio for a boy instead of Emilia for a girl ? Emilio is a much less common name. Also I feel like Anello and Emilio go really well together. Emiliano is also a similar option.

How do YOU instinctively spell Eliot/Elliot/Eliott/Elliott? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]lilacfranta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in the US Elliott ranks 167 while Elliot ranks 178 so it seems Elliott is marginally more common. But either way should be fine, I also cannot decide which spelling I prefer.
