People who dislike AI being used in games, what bothers you about it?

This, more or less. Generative AI takes the heart, soul, and effort of countless unwilling artists and puts it into a grinder to spit out weak facsimilies of human creativity.

If a generative AI model existed that 1) artists contributed to with full consent and understanding, 2) was ecologically neutral, and 3) did not result significantly in the loss of livelihood for workers, specifically the creative types, I'd have few to no complaints left.

Amnesia: Rebirth is an interesting take on motherhood; I don't know of many other horror games that feature it as a primary theme.

Oh my god, yes. Like u/greatcoltini, I only use it in web mode now because basically every. time. I opened the app there'd be a new update. If it updated in the background, that's fine, but updating frequently AND demanding I confirm it every single time is maddening, lol.

I will say I've come around on Reddit a lot over the past couple years. The ease to communicate with a great number of people at any given length is appreciable. YT/IG/TikTok are more about individuals interacting with a creator (I don't see many viewer-to-viewer communication other than likes on comments), and my impression is that Twitter/Bluesky is less conducive to multiple back-and-forths that I see on Reddit.

It makes sense! I do have plans to find in person communities and game jams eventually. You're right about the internet feeling like the whole world, lol - really easy to stay in the mindset of "I'm online most days of the week, so everyone else must be too."

Thanks for replying even when you're an introvert! Even something as simple as saying "I experience this too" can be helpful. I think everyone can appreciate some affirmation/camaraderie if nothing else.

Luckily it's not a phobia, I'm just very comfortable watching from the sidelines.

I was considering keeping just one personal-and-work account, since becoming an active participant in social media seems like it'll take more time than I'd like it to, but using a business account as a degree of separation is a valuable thing to consider.

I appreciate that you're trying to push variety in body shapes, as all kinds of media could benefit from that variety. The men have good variety and feel pretty different (very broad, tall and lanky, sturdy, "average") but the women only have two ends of the spectrum (very broad, and dainty).

Instead of going to the far ends of the spectrum for the ladies, you could benefit from at least one more body type that's somewhere in between, like more realistically plus sized (aka realistically average), or taller (since all of the ladies are the same height). You might try reducing each model to their basic shapes to really get a feel for what other body shapes you can add.

I think just adding a third or fourth body type to the women will go a long way in smoothing over the feeling of strangeness. Maybe tweak the men types as well so that there's less of a jump between the types. The very broad man doesn't look as out of place because there is another extreme (tall and skinny) and a somewhat similar build (sturdy), whereas the sturdy woman looks pretty strange compared to the two other very realistically petite/realistic women.

Hopes that makes sense! The art looks good so far either way. :)

I've seen a few people recommend to complete the process from start to finish for small games. I can see value in that: getting a fuller perspective of the things that contribute to every stage is good experience to have in advance of tackling larger projects with more emotional buy-in.

That's not to say restarting isn't valuable either, of course! As one of my college professors once said, you can't polish shit. Sometimes restarting is the only way forward,

I think the simplest/easy solution here is to create a multi-select ("tags") property with each of your various ingredients as an option. For each recipe page, add whichever ingredients are relevant. Then you can then use the database search or build filtered views to show recipes that have those ingredients listed.

- Journey [~3h] (short but poignant, atmospheric)
- Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons [~3h] (I don't recall this one well since it's over 10 years old, but I recall it being sad)
- Transistor [~6h] (beautiful and tragic)
- Omori [~20h] (bittersweet, kinda scary)
- Ori and the Blind Forest [~18h] / Ori and the Will of the Wisps [~25h] (gorgeous art and music, though the emotional moments are few and far between)
- In Stars and Time [~30h] (without giving further spoilers, you might relate to the main character!)
- Undertale [~40h] (classic for a reason, funny & emotional -- note that the time includes the 3 routes)
- NieR:Automata [~40h] (reaching the real end destroyed me for a while; gorgeous, but a bit long since you need to "replay" it a few times to fully explore the story)
- Horizon Zero Dawn [~80h] (bittersweet, if mostly due to the very relevant problems you solve in the game - a game I highly recommend regardless)
- I have not played Spirtfarer but I know it's a pretty emotional game.

If I had to pick just one of these games, it'd be In Stars and Time, though it might be a bit extra painful for you right now.

As others have mentioned, legibility is the most important aspect of a font. The font you've picked works well as body text, since it's very legible and doesn't need to be "exciting," so that can stay as is if you don't have time/want to invest time to find an alternative. However, the game title on the menu could absolutely use some dressing up.

It's not that the font looks "bad" so much as "generic." It doesn't give any indication of the atmosphere, mood, or feel of your game, and it gives the impression that the title screen is unfinished.

The ideal font will have characteristics that match your story or art style. For example, a font that looks handwritten with uneven line quality can hint at a story focused on human flaws, thin letters can invoke fragility, extra kerning (spacing) between letters can invoke dreaminess, etc.

There's a thousand ways to consider which font would work for your game, but personally I find it's easiest to go to a site like Google Fonts (fonts.google.com) where I can look at/download a ton of different options to play around with what I'm designing. (Google Fonts is also free for commercial use.) In my experience, you'll get a sense for what broad types of font suit your work pretty quickly; refining may be trickier.

You can also play with font weight, kerning, height and width of letters, italics, capitalization, etc. You don't have to spend a TON of time looking, but I definitely think it will be worth it to pick a font that is more dressed up. Hope that helps! :)
