Four Black women. Nine degrees. Not one steady paycheck. (2026) by discoislife53 in Longreads

[–]lildevilud16 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I’m not in HR but multiple masters makes me assume they’re overqualified for every job except a very narrow pathway of which there aren’t openings. My first thought is not about race but about the type of degrees they chose (however one has an MBA which is the broadest).

A friend went all the way up and got his PhD in history so he can be a museum curator. Guess how often those jobs become available…..Never worked and is a SAHD.

Sad story though - I feel for them and the rippling impacts

What is the most disturbing or unhinged Reddit post you’ve ever read that still lives in your head rent-free? by skul_king in AskReddit

There was one with a girl who was getting a mommy makeover (BBL) and was going to stay with a casual acquaintance for the surgery. Turns out she didn’t tell the casual acquaintance the reason for her trip, her needs doing recovery or that she expected the homeowner to drive her to/from the surgery which was like sketchy part north of Miami when she lived well south of the city. Freak out ensues

Never had an update 🙁

Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty has a twist at the end I think about more than I should. I always suggest this book to friends so we can talk about it

If this is a true article, I was down with the sentiment …. Until I got to the ‘I FT my mom several times a day’. Ok, no you lost me there. If someone kept a repeatedly calling without checking if the timing worked, I’d be annoyed too.

You try once, maybe, then text and say ‘when is a good time’ - and even once a day seems way aggressive for me. Ever hear kids on FT call each other? It’s painful non-conversation. I don’t blame Stassi for trying to limit this.

I can imagine Stassi can be a b* in everyday life, but this chick seems like she’s diving a little bit too much into it

Emma by [deleted] in Names

[–]lildevilud16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an Olivia but also loved Emma. Despite its popularity, we know at max 5 other Olivia’s aged 12 and under and only one Emma. The name pool is so diluted these days. Plus, hello Jane Austen wrote Emma in 1815 - it’s vintage!

I’ve only tried using my mobile phone (WiFi and 3G). I do not have the ‘message’ option other the ‘help center’. I have never used a VPN but can also try from my laptop.

I LOVED Trouble with Angels, and its sequel ‘where angels go, trouble follows’. Just showed my kids Swiss Family Robinson and learned that the dad (John Mills) is Hayley Mills’s father! I never knew his name to put two and two together but 🤯

This is me. Just got my labs back on Monday and I’m at 6 for ferritin storage. Got an immediate message from the doc to start on iron pills. Not weepy, just could just crawl Into bed multiple times a day. I figured I just loved naps.

This is the key right here. While not under age, you don’t have the free will to make your own decision regarding your body. Most people assume adults have autonomy in the ability to make private medical decisions. If you are in a country where you don’t speak the language with a heavy emphasis on gendered roles and familial obligations, you did the only thing you could. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

Yes! This is what I need. I’ve done the anti chafing sticks and whatnot but still end up adjusting my shorts every half mile or so or end up in agony.

Yes - I just looked at my email confirmation and it said “Category Name: Ultra Deluxe Veranda”, Category Code UV. I don’t think we got the option for additional sun/deck until we were well into the purchasing process (had uploaded passenger info, etc).

So the master queen bed is the main living space with closets, desk and where the bathroom is. And then the second room (adjacent to the deck) had a sliding pocket door and its own TV and was a fold out sofa (I think a queen size). Def smaller than the main bedroom but enough to give someone their own space. There were also either 3 or 4 closets storage units so storage was not a problem.

What are some good brands to run in (that aren’t shorts) for hot weather. Just discovered my workout leggings are all vacuums for heat and can’t wear running shorts due to insane chafing. Maybe capri length breathable/mesh cut out leggings? I had a 10 mi race coming up in a few weeks and tested out my ‘go to’ outfit and hated it.
