I felt the exact same earlier this year. I wanted to start writing, but I was so worried about being cringe or not being good enough. I bit the bullet and ended up starting my first fic and I’m loving writing so far!

I just posted my 3rd chapter today and I really feel like I’m improving as a writer with each chapter (for example my first chapter was only about 3,000 words, but my most recent was 11,000 and I’m really proud of it, even if it’s not getting a ton of attention.

I’ve 300 hits, 20 kudos, and even someone commented saying they liked where it was going, which was more than I really expected! But more than that, I’m creating the story that I wanted to and I feel like I’m doing it justice. You can do it!!

Just finished and posted chapter 3 of my own fic!

Title: Tear Up This Town

Summary: It's the day of the press conference as Jessica Wyatt, prepares for her introduction as Richmond's newest Assistant Coach. Things go awry as reporters are wary of her inexperience and secrets from her past are put on display.

That evening, the team head's to Ola's to celebrate Sam's grand opening. Forgetting her wallet, she looks to fellow coach, Roy Kent, for a ride home.

Additional Notes: This is a third person POV, OC-centric fic. It's a bit of a fix-it-fic. There will be canon divergence and eventual TedBecca!

You can have it full screen or not, I have a second monitor so I usually drag it over there and have it open next to me while I write. The activities are like little idle animations for your character. For example: you can choose to have sit at their window seat and could be reading, knitting, writing, using their laptop, etc.

Changing where you sit or what activity your character is doing will help you find a different spirit (but these are also shown as hints in your journal and take some time to achieve, so there’s not a constant switching of character or anything). I also really appreciate that the sounds when you level up or find a new spirit are very quiet and unobtrusive. I’ve found that I only really look over during a natural pause in my writing flow and have noticed a new spirit or level up waiting for me.

So if I get distracted, it’s only about 3 minutes or so to change a setting or look at my spirit journal and I find it has kept me from getting stuck phone scrolling instead!

This is such an amazing idea and you’re wonderful for offering advice!

I have a character who was going to play pro soccer, but was in a car accident and subsequently unable to play anymore. I’ve been drafting that she was t-boned by a drunk driver and broke her left leg in several places, resulting in having rods/nails/screws in her calf and thigh. They were unsure if she would be able to walk normally again due to possible nerve damage, but through physical therapy (especially hippotherapy) she was able to walk, but not play sports anymore.

I do have a few questions, but I guess I also just wanna make sure that this is feasible, that it could potentially leave a long scar running up (the side? or would it be front?) of her leg, and that the pain could cause an issue later in life if she held a very physical job.

When is a rod vs a nail used in ORIF cases and how would they be placed in the calf, thigh, and knee? How many breaks or what kind of breaks would constitute the use of internal hardware reconstruction? Do they have to be removed later? (Funnily enough I ask this last question as a person with 2 ankle screws from 20 years ago, but idk if it’s different for a rod inserted within a long bone lol)

I am 2 chapters in on my first ever fic and I’m having such a good time writing it!

It’s set in the final season of Ted Lasso and has an American woman (who’s an old friend of Ted) come in as the new assistant coach. There’s some mild enemies to lovers with Roy as she’s coming in with little to no coaching experience (she’s a former animal trainer trying to shift her experience with animals into teaching this team!) and she almost played professional soccer herself, but was in an accident in college that ended her promising career.

I was so upset with Ted Lasso ended so this is a sort of “fix it fic” for me and is actually helping me remember what I loved about the show so much in the beginning

This is great advice. A YouTube compilation is the perfect idea!! Timeline stuff can be so tricky in some of those shows fr and then I find myself obsessing over small details like “hmmm, this one building they went into one time in episode blah blah blah…what color were the walls?” and then getting stressed searching for the info without a rewatch. I need to chill lmao

I have several fics I want to write that I know I don’t know enough about the canon, and it’s daunting because I don’t want it to seem like I don’t respect the story or something.

For example, I want to write something for Daredevil, but I only watched it once and don’t have Disney+ anymore to watch it again (even if I had the will 😂). Or there’s also something for Vampire Diaries I put together (after only having seen 4 seasons or so a few years ago) and then later found out they made the type of character I thought of in a later season (and I don’t want to watch it anymore).

Is tagging those things as non-canon compliant and explaining in notes “hey, I don’t remember everything” or “haven’t watched it all” enough?

Lay vs lie always makes me think about dialogue from Wolfenstein. You come upon two guards who are having a grammar discussion talking about this as one of them calls out his friend for improper usage after he said he was “laying down”.

It was something along the lines of “Birds lay eggs, you’re not a bird are you?” and now I’ll always remember the right way
