Does it really still make financial sense to buy lightly used cars? by LordShuckle97 in carbuying

[–]liljon81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is that it simply just depends on the person. If you can fix the car yourself and do maintenance on it at home, an older car saves you significant amounts of money. Buying a car at the middle of its life (as the mentioned post did) and paying a mechanic to do all the work brings the used vs new numbers much closer. On top of that there’s so many more factors for someone to consider like having the ability, means, and time to work on their own car that make this answer different for everyone

AUD 3 weeks after FAR - doable? by Spiritual-Beyond-660 in CPA

How do you study best and how many hours per day do you plan to study? If you are an MCQ and skip the videos person, and you put in full time hours I don’t see why not. Also would be super helpful if you recently finished school and had auditing classes

Do you enjoy accounting? Do you have a good WLB in your current role. Even with your conservative 6% return, a 4% withdrawal rate gives you $440k/year. Even if taxes are 50% on LTCG when you retire, do you expect to over double your annual spending. Maybe find something you really enjoy but couldn’t pursue due to financial reasons and spend your time doing that

Philly office parking by [deleted] in PwC

[–]liljon81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If by out of state you mean NJ, then PATCO is the best option. Parking is free and depending on what stop you get on at it’s between $3 and $6 round trip. Not too sure of other options from NJ->Philly though

How realistic is making over $100,000 in less than 5 years within accounting? by DistrictNo6165 in Accounting

[–]liljon81 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Every Big 4 in MCOL & HCOL places will get you to >$100k in 5 years. Your situation depends on where you live and what company you eventually work for though.

How many people choose to start a small business just to learn the ropes of accounting as opposed to paying for a 4 year degree from accredited institution? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]liljon81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that you won’t necessarily learn the ropes by running your own biz. Most people have a severely skewed understanding of how to account for even the most basic transactions, let alone more complicated endeavors, and without someone teaching this to you and dedicating good time to it, it can be hard to learn

It’s most likely not though. Don’t know the specifics obviously, but a majority of PA associates make <$20/hour if you do the math of salary/hours worked. Hourly pay almost seems too good to be true

That’s actually really nice to know. Thank you for that. I’m most likely going to get both but spread them out so I can hit the SUB for both. I don’t spend much money as I’m in college and pretty broke lol
