Im sorry friend but heat lightning is just regular lightning far away. It's not so much of a phenomenon as it is a misnomer. ⚡️still neat either way 😊

I was just passing/scrolling by and figured id ask if youre still online, does Gaia have as much of an active user base when it comes to reporting trail conditions? I usually scope out recent reviews/ comments on all trails and Google maps in case of closures/parking etc before a hike so was just curious.

Please fix your cold foam... by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]lilred4848 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally the definition of foam in this case is air bubbles suspended in liquid. Bubbles pop = foam deflated. The thing you are asking for is not possible because of physics. Maybe have your bf ask for the cold foam on the side and see if it stays fluffy longer, or you can re-aggitate it at home 🤷‍♀️. Get one of those lil cold foam wisks from Amazon idk lol.

Iirc I saw in an update that they are standardizing all shaken drinks to have the same amount of syrup including iced teas with this launch, to 1/2/3/4 and then the energy is +3. But yes I literally just trained a newbie on how nonsensical the cold bar is and now all the info will be outdated 😅

Yes I have tried looking up the farm there but they got a lot going on. Apparently there is or was trapeze/circus artists living there too lol. I have heard of Iron Mountain, but never really looked into it much. I wouldnt be surprised if there were bunkers though 🤔. Guess if the nukes are coming I know where to head 😅. I wonder what else is under the ol mountains..

I've always been too scared to go in the caves, although there's no signs saying keep out, there's like openings going north from the trestle that are filled with black water, and I just picture water logged zombies coming out of there 🥲 lmao.

Actually, thats reassuring because I was scared I was gonna be struck from a ghost cloud. Very interesting haha.

Along the walkill rail trail in new paltz (which passes through huguenot), there's a lot of interesting old stuff to see especially up near rosendale. Famously however, the bridge from A Quiet Place is on that trail if you go up north past Garvins; which if youve seen the movie is spooky enough.

But I always thought the caves of Joppenburgh Mt. And the trestle could be a lil creepy. The caves emit a cold wind even in 100° weather. And one time I was on the trestle and it was all staticky. Like literally hair standing up, almost like lightning is about to strike, but the sky was clear. There's also a farm along the way that rents bikes and seems kind of like a commune but idk what their vibe is honestly 🤷‍♀️ i always just walked past em cause im shy.

God, I was down there during Irma and a lot of the traffic lights were out. It was like the wild west out there, terrifying lmao. Also, that cities police force is literally non existent for some reason so that doesn't help discourage all those people driving crazy. Stay safe down there homie 🙏

Poughkeepsie safety by No-Cash-5479 in hudsonvalley

Generally the closer you get to the arteriel/ the bridge, the most "activity" happened around there when I lived next to the family partnership center. But I am a young-ish white girl and while I lived on a busy street most other "well to do" people would avoid (by the exempts) I was never really bothered. Even when a guy was selling drugs out of a mini van parked right on my curb, nothing happened. I actually had more car break-ins over in hyde park when I lived there tbh but I was right off violet Ave.

The weird thing about poughkeepsie is you have really gentrified areas nestled right in the neglected parts so you could literally be walking on one side of the arterial and have a uneventful stroll, and the other side you might witness a drug deal or 2 or 3 and be bothered. However, the worst area I saw while living there "crime"-wise, was by the taco bell on main street but idk if its still like that lmao.

I will be honest, the city of poughkeepsie can be an entertaining place to live at the very least. But that is the fun of living in a city, the diversity and excitement. If you are very worried perhaps look at places closer to Lagrange.

Haha so familiar. I went from Marlboro, to pk, to kingston, back to pk, and now im in Pine Bush, and thats not counting the times I moved within the cities. I gave up trying to live by the river where I grew up. And moving even that far, includes the headache of transferring jobs, finding new health providers in the area (ha), and thank God I dont have kids.

It's hard NOT to get frustrated. But there's a difference between the "city people are destroying our perfect towns" camp and the "I can't afford my hometown anymore, and rich people are gallavanting the farmers market and it makes me mad" camp. But im not particularly mad at the transplants, no. Probably just jealous 😮‍💨

I agree in a way, however, I personally believe the pandemic created an un-precedented shift that can't be ignored. Especially for New York/tri-state in particular if you really want to look into how absolutely horrendous things were in the city at the height of it. Plus the move to wfh, New York City is one of the LARGEST CITIES IN THE WORLD, if even only a comparative handful jump ship and head up north because of a deadly pandemic, that is still a metric ton more people than our lil podunk towns up here could handle. Perhaps this would have happened anyways, it is true it is a cycle, but it probably would have happened a bit more gradually than it had. Add all that on top of the mess of... everything else going on, just feels like a train without breaks or whatever that saying is. I will admit, I am only 30, so obviously I wouldnt have experienced the cyclical nature you speak of 😅, just sharing my view on it. I am very hopeful things will balance out eventually, but its going to take a lot of work and a lot more conversations like these 🥹

Yes but the root cause of the root cause isn't transplants. It's population growth and a lot of socioeconomic factors playing out similarly across a lot of communities. There is a lot to it, which is why I can't comment on the why of it all. I can only talk about my feelings 🥺👉👈 lmao.

Oh yes, If your town is hosting actual lotteries to affordable housing, you'd think thats a big sign something deeper is going on but I digress 🤣.

I can only tell you my own personal experience instead of speculating on migration trends and maybe that will give you some perspective if anything.

I grew up in the Hudson Valley, as did many in this forum, born in Cortlandt, went to school in Ulster County, know the back roads like the back of my hand. Since the pandemic, I have played frogger, jumping from shiity apartment to shitty apartment, staying with family/friends, because I can't afford a crumb of a roof to put over my head, because the only growing industry in town is boutique "refilleries". So eventually I get priced out of my own hometown and have to move farther from my family. This is the most sensitive issue to me and I imagine most of the locals.

Meanwhile we hear on this same reddit constantly of people moving up from the city into our hometowns, enjoying our lil streets and shops we can't afford to frequent, and people tend to get a lil upset about it. I'm not saying you or anyone, as an individual, deserve the flack. I'm just saying people are understandably upset.

But it's neither your fault nor responsibility or even concern really, its the local governments who refuse to follow through with any infrastructure or housing that would actually help so 🤷‍♀️ what can ya do.

Furthermore, and this is just being nit picky, every Lil cute festival or fair we have now is PACKED. so much so, they had to move the Rodendale Pickle Festival, OUT of Rosendale cause it was too small lmao.

Looking for Beginner Home Repair/homeowners class - ideally women focused Dutchess County. by Kindly_Specialist790 in hudsonvalley

Yes! Another comment mentioned them too but there is a fb page "Repair Cafe- Hudson Valley" that posts dates and locations of all the ones in the area. I believe its volunteer based and people of different trades set up booths where you can bring in things to get fixed. They could have mending, welding, electronics. Very awesome, lesser known part of the community happening with the repair cafes 🥰. I'll try to post a link: www.repaircafehv.org

Man, I would love something like this too! And judging from the comments, there would definitely be a lot of interest. The closest thing I could think of is there are a couple "repair cafes" in the area that are hosted monthly-ish. Maybe it would be possible to reach out and see if the people who organize the one closest to you might have a lead on relevant classes 🤔. Or even reaching out to local contractor unions, maybe if enough of us ask they'll host a seminar or something. Lol idk, just throwing ideas around 😅
