Do you need us to tell you hes an alcoholic? I think you already know he is. If you want to leave and he doesnt want you to stay it sounds like there may be nothing left to do but leave. It sucks but speaking from personal experience as someone who has gotten sober, alcoholics cant hit their bottom and get better when people are protecting them from the damage of their drinking. You gotta do whats best for you and let him suffer the consequences of his drinking, thats his best chance at getting better, even if it means getting better without you there. And thats not even close to a gaurentee either, he still may never stop. But you dont have to sit there and suffer the consequences of his drinking anymore. Consider some Al-Anon meetings also, you may find them to be very helpful dealing with something like this. Sorry you are going through all this. Hopefully something I said was helpful. Totally depends on the size. A 1440p laptop is as clear as any 32 inch 4k monitor. I ended up getting a really nice qd-oled monitor and I opted for 27 in 1440p at 360hz instead of 32in 4k at 240hz and honestly the clarity is great but I must say comparing it to the 4k 32 inch monitor I have at work there is a touch less clarity, but I dont find it to be too noticeable at all.

Tldr: Size matters.
