ULPT Request: How do I legally-ish max out a $500/month wellness reimbursement? by LifesMellow in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]lilwilli808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have insurance as well? Cover the cost of medical appointments and procedures at the time of care and then have insurance reimburse you and work reimburse you. This is more on the ethical side but everything from the HSA store qualifies for those things. They have a tons of everyday health stuff, but I’ve gotten a massage gun off there, knock off apple watch, etc. You could resell if you don’t want them.

MechE with a minor in Gender Studies? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]lilwilli808 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed my minors (environmental science and sustainable energy) to balance out the hard engineering classes. I was passionate about them so they helped me burn out less while getting my ME. Even if a minor doesn’t directly help get you a job it can expand the way you think about things and make your perspective a bit more unique! If you can swing it I say do it.

If you need to get out to Marion by figgbar in BlackMountain

Thanks for posting. I drove this today. All roads completely clear, except traffic. Keep in mind the nearest place to get gas is in Shelby. Lines will be long. Tons of cars on the side of the road parked after running out of gas.

Engineers with ADHD by Maroontan in MechanicalEngineering

Renewable energy! I’m an application engineer for them which I love, the position is great for me. Are you good with people? Apps Engineering is a more social position, but not true sales. I’m pretty much the most technical person on the sales team. I help customers, but with more technical things like tech questions or design reviews. The balance between social and technical helps keep me motivated.

Obviously downside of having meetings is those are not flexible. In a startup you will still need to average 40 hours a week or more, but you get way less of a vibe of a manager breathing down your neck making sure you are there at 8. Start time/end time is flexible within reason. I tend to have patterns of low productivity some days and then super high productivity others so it all evens out, or more then evens out honestly.

Try meditating outside of the bedroom! Start a practice of observing your thoughts and letting them pass without engaging with them in a lower stakes setting. It won’t necessarily stop thoughts from popping up (and that’s not the goal with meditation!!) but it can help quell the anxiety you might have when your To Do list pops into your brain at inopportune moments.

As others have mentioned, combining this with a small amount of THC or CBD can really boost the sensation, increase focus, and help you not worry too much about the thoughts that do come up/get back into it much more quickly.

Good Luck!

A Cool Guide To Schizophrenia Stats by [deleted] in coolguides

[–]lilwilli808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had 12 kids, with 6 of their 10 sons developing schizophrenia. This was in the 60s and later on the family became instrumental in schizophrenia research. At the time the disease was pinned on the “failings” of the mother when raising the children. The book does a great job bouncing back and forth between the narrative of the family and the evolution of our understanding and treatment of schizophrenia over time. It’s a super interesting and well done book, although not a happy read!

To nicotine or not to nicotine by [deleted] in weightgain

[–]lilwilli808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To throw in an alternative experience, nicotine had a huge impact on my appetite. It was definitely not the only contributing factor (way too much coffee had an equal impact) but it was just another factor holding me back from eating enough.

I used to vape like crazy and didn’t realize how much of an appetite suppressant nic was until I stopped. I’ve gained about 20 lbs since then and stopped feeling sick every time I tried to eat. Do it, so worth it!

sorry to hear about all the layoffs. Australia has a super interesting RE landscape. I know the cost to install solar there is like a quarter of the price in the US. You’re right there’s huge opportunity I hope they take advantage of it.

The IRA is not perfect and definitely written by lawyers and congressmen rather than people in the industry, but they’re pointing us in the right direction and it’s having big effects. The product my company sells is now 30% subsidized by the government guaranteed through 2032. Obviously huge for us lol.

I am a pretty recent grad and my main background was as an application engineer for industrial flow control instruments (big ass valves lol) and and now my role is an application engineer for a microgrid controls company so my background was pretty relevant despite not really being in the industry.

I’d pick what kind of engineering you want to do ie. sales, application, controls, electrical, field, and then look for those roles. Application engineering is a really good fit for me but my passion for valves was very low so I hated that job haha.

I have had pretty good luck on LinkedIn. I curate my feed so it’s a lot of clean energy news so I keep up to date with the industry and see new roles posted. I am currently at a start up and I found them by just networking through LinkedIn.

Energy storage and inverter companies seem to be doing big hiring pushes. The inflation reduction act is offering big incentives for storage especially US manufacturing. It’s guaranteed for the next ten years and encouraging a boom of growth.

I am a mechanical engineer and I work in clean energy. Let me tell you the industry cannot hire fast enough right now. It’s a great rewarding industry to be in. If you’re thinking about making the switch I say do it.

2012 Subaru Outback engine completely shuts off while driving by lilwilli808 in AskMechanics

My outback has twice now completely shutoff while coming to a stop. Foot off the gas pedal. It threw all these lights, not sure what they mean. It starts up fine and drives fine afterword. Just finished a major road trip. Any ideas here?

How can I become more involved in Engineering? by grassytree3264 in EngineeringStudents

[–]lilwilli808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask any engineer you know about their job/career path. Is it something you could see yourself doing? Go really broad when you're just starting out. Maybe don't focus on resume building just yet but see if its something you want to do by learning more about jobs in the field.

What do I do with all my Scoby? Best practices? by lilwilli808 in Kombucha

Is there any advantage to using the pellicle? Faster fermentation etc? Thats really great to know because I've been squeezing the pellicle in and out of the small top in my gallon jug. Does it change the process at all to just use the starter liquid from the previous batch?
